We are delighted to announce Elliott Hasler and Kirsten Callaghan will be featured extensively in the press tomorrow as part of the Mercedes Gleitze Blue Plaque ceremony in Brighton.

On Monday 24th January, open water swimming pioneer, Mercedes Gleitze, who in 1927 became the first British woman to swim the English Channel, will be honoured with a blue plaque commemorating her achievements, at 124 Freshfield Road, Brighton; the place of her birth and from where she first learnt to swim as a child off Brighton beach.

Besides conquering the English Channel, Gleizte accomplished numerous other feats of endurance, becoming the first person to swim the treacherous Straights of Gibraltar and across the notorious waters dividing Robben Island and Cape Town.

The blue plaque unveiling will also mark the completion of Vindication Swim, which is due for release later in the year after completing post-production at Warner Bros. De Lane Lea.

The highly anticipated biopic depicts Gleitze’s struggles against both the cold waters of the English Channel and the oppressive society of 1920s Britain, in order to retain her legacy as the first British woman to complete the swim.

In attendance will be members of the principle cast and crew. Kirsten Callaghan who portrays Gleitze in the film will be joined by actor John Locke (Darkest Hour, The Favourite, Cyrano), who stars alongside Callaghan as Gleitze’s coach. They will also be joined by the film’s writer and director Elliott Hasler, as well as members of Gleitze family.

Relsah Productions

Relsah is an independent production company based in Brighton, offering both feature films and documentaries for cinema and television, directed by Elliott Hasler.

Elliott Hasler is currently the UK’s youngest feature film director, having completed his first feature, ‘Charlie’s Letters’, aged 16 after a 3 year production. ‘Charlie’s Letters’ premiered in his hometown of Brighton, selling out six of the seven showings. The film was also screened at the Edinburgh Festival and was shown on the Brighton Big Screen alongside ‘T2 Trainspotting’ and ‘La La Land’.

As well as Charlie’s Letters, Hasler has also made ‘The Mayor Diaries’, a documentary charting the exploits of Brighton’s Mayor, which premiered on TV in February 2018 and a selection of short films.

Currently he is working on a short film set in the British Raj, which features ‘Darkest Hour’ actor John Locke and is developing a feature about the first English woman to swim the Channel.
