Battenberg - The Brothers and Sisters of 56 Sunday 15th December 2024 11 am.

'Radio Caroline', 'Ruby Slippers', 'Cyanometer', 'Labelling'.

This week's show is co-presented by Jane Gamble and Richard Sara.

The show starts with Jane taking us back to the years when disc jockeys went down to the sea in ships!

Square 2 is memorable for the price of its memorabilia. £28 million for a pair of red slippers anyone?

The cake is half-baked. Can you measure 'blueness'? Jane points you in the direction of the 'Cyanometer' - Humboldt and De Sausseur's version of 'blue sky thinking'.

In Square 4 - Richard may be a 'white, middle-aged, bearded, skinhead' but is not keen on being 'labelled' or being generalised about!

Introductory Square music:

The Fortunes - Caroline
Pink Floyd - Money
Electric Light Orchestra - Mr Blue Sky
Radiohead - Bangers and Mash

01/12/2024

Battenberg 54 BCB Radio 106.6fm Sunday 1st December at 11 am.

'Finding Light In Dark Times', 'Shaun Ryder', 'Steampunk', 'Old Man Trump'.

This week's show is co-presented by Richard Sara and Adele Best.

'Finding Light In Dark Times' - Adeles positive start to the cake. This week's baking is powered using only renewable energy. COP 29 organised with Bakuiavellian guest lists?

Square 2 hears Richard's account of the now sadly infamous visit to the wonderful Glusburn Institute of Shaun Ryder. Unhappy Sundays anyone?

The next square sees the return of the Absinthe Fairy. Can you tell the difference between a Goth and a 'Steampunk'? The tribe of Steampunk is a prideful, positive and colourful tribe.

Beach Haven was where Woody Guthrie lived. 'Old Man Trump' was his landlord. Fred Trump raised rents in the area once he had removed and barred black people from living there.

Introductory Square music by:

Jewel - Hands
John Kongos - He's Gonna Step On You Again
Alice's Night Circus - Curious World
Woody Guthrie - Ain't Got No Home

Battenberg - The Brothers and Sisters of 11-12pm

Football's Enforcers', 'In Vienna', 'Frank Zappa', 'What Happens If You Pump Up The Jam? .

This week's slice of lovely Battenberg is co-presented by Richard Sara and Owen Whitehouse.

Are you hard? Are you one of 'Football's Enforcers'? Do people avoid you when playing football? From Kung Fu Kicks to Souness's moustache and 'Bubble' perm, the time to be really scared was when Tommy Smith was near.

Square 2 is a square of firsts! Owens first plane journey (and his first plane crash), Trotsky, Stalin and Hi**er living in adjacent streets in 1913, the invention of Snow Globes and Croissants, and many more, 'In Vienna'.

The show is 'half-baked' which is a very good time to commemorate and celebrate the late, great free speech advocate and Flugelhorn player; 'Frank Zappa'.

Jam in a Battenberg? Owen ponders what would really happen if you 'Pump Up The Jam'? Beware of flying chunks and splatter!

Introductory Square music -

The Police - Don't Stand So Close To Me
Ultravox - Vienna
Frank Zappa/Moon Unit Zappa - Valley Girl
Technotronic - Pump Up The Jam
