This Vulfpeck gig is so much fun to watch! Their sound is like Steely Dan mashed up with Tower of Power and a bit of EWF and Jamiroquai. And what a great sign that they played to a packed out Madison Square garden. The funk's back!

The story of 1999 begins with one of the most legendary concert debacles in rock history. Opening for the Rolling Stones in October 1981 was Prince's biggest gig to date — but, as Bobby Z. said, the pair of concerts ended "in utter shambles and defeat."

"People were flipping us the bird and they were booing and they were throwing food and bottles and cans and crumpled-up paper cups," Dr. Fink recalled.

"I turned and looked just in time to see Mark Brown’s bass with a gallon of orange juice exploding on it," said Dez Dickerson. "I mean it was war, but you just had to kind of survive."

His bandmates cite it as a major turning point in Prince's career. As Lisa Coleman said, "There was a sea of people as far as the eye could see — as if those were the people he was gonna have to address, you know, to be the great artist that he wanted to be."

We’ve spent a few new years eve nights at the Jazz Cafe enjoying his performances as well as a memorable night at Ronnie Scotts. 9 years ago we were at the Jamiroquai album launch for Rock Dust Light Star at the Jazz Cafe in London. We also had tickets to see Patrice Rushen at Ronnie Scotts that night but when we won the Jamiroquai tickets we decided to go there (we saw Patrice another time!).

This man right here was & will forever remain one of the greatest songwriters of our time…I’m talkin’ about “Thriller”, “Always & Forever”, “Boogie Nights”…you name it!! He lived & breathed music & his songs are timelessly IN THE POCKET. If you want to be a songwriter, I’m tellin’ you, it’s time to learn everything about this man. His lyrics, his melodies, his groove…everything. Incomparable.

Great to see Sheryl Crow back at Glastonbury after 22 years. Her voice still sounds great live. Proper singer. Proper musician too. Interesting facts about her: she was a backing singer for Michael Jackson on his Bad Tour and Prince covered her song 'Everyday is a Winding Road' on his 1999 album Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, which also features her vocals on the track 'Baby Knows' (Prince liked country music, believe it or not!).

Like the sun coming up over Santa Monica Boulevard, Sheryl shines on the main stage.
