“The question was, was ‘Lakky Lady’ about an experience or anybody in particular? It was written in, where Bob and I used to live above each other, in Lordship Lane, above the Co-Op… Shawbury Court and that's where we named our publishing company, Shawbury Music, for a while. Rick was round, and we were writing in the bedroom, and we'd had this sort of guitar thing going.

That's when we still had an idea of writing albums or writing songs. We had four albums that had a broad scene, rather than had to be in this tight Status Quo shuffle or hairy music. Rick and I were always talking about a lakky, a lakky lady. In other words, in our mind, a lakky lady was basically a female bricklayer.” FR

I would always write a bunch of tunes and quite often there was a period when we were doing three movements, as it were, and whether it was part of prog rock at the time, I don't see that per se, It's just three songs that move into one another. In 4500 times, the lyrics do a three-movement, although it's the same strain in there, it's just not three put together.

I have done that with John Edwards. I give him a piece, and he goes off and comes back with something else, and then we go over it again and finish it together. We did ‘Heavy Traffic’ and a track ’I cried’ and that was kind of smashed together. John suggested we did that and the idea of putting it together was a great idea. But it doesn't necessarily mean it was better. It made ‘Heavy Traffic’, but the original ‘Heavy Traffic’ stood on its own and ‘I Cried’ stood on its own. Francis Rossi
