Hi there, I'm Linzi. How you doing?
Over the past decade, I've attended a huge number of networking and promotional events with charities and socially conscious businesses. Every one of them had an important message to share about their services, their pilot projects, campaigns, and their success stories.
Whilst passing each representative my business card, and congratulating them on the innovative and important work they are doing, it often occurred to me that very few people outside of the attending network would get to hear about the amazing support work that exists in their region. Of course, potential referring agencies would know, but what about the general public?
I pondered this question whilst supping a brew in a local community interest café. With so many charities, social enterprises, not for profits, CSR campaigns, volunteer networks, research projects and so on, how does the public keep up? Especially, when each organisation has the uncertainty of funding awards and their funding ending for pilot projects and so on. It's an ever-changing landscape depending on donations and beneficiaries. How can organisations stay up-to-date with who to refer into? How do the general public learn about the fantastic opportunities, benefits and services available to them, as well as how they can give support to those organisations?
I sipped. I thought... I poured another brew and thought some more. Then I opened my laptop and emailed all my contacts from all those networking events.
Next, I picked up my phone. "Hiya, tell me what your organisation has to offer our communities... of course, it's a totally informal chat.... great... I'll pop the kettle on."
And now, here we are.
