1. Buying secondhand equipment: Now there's nothing wrong with buying secondhand equipment. Just make sure you have all the paperwork and service history, so you're not buying another practitioners problem.
2. Not Saving: Being self-employed, you have good and bad days. Saving money in your emergency fund should cover you on those rainy days or for you to pay things off in full, including unexpected costs.
3. A non simple business name: Have a name that's easy to say and spell ! Don't make it hard for your clients or potential ones.
4. Low Pricing: Don't price too low. It's tempting to price your services at a lower price to gain customers. In the long run, you'll end up losing out and burned out. Make sure to work out your costs, including tax and national insurance. I believe that half of what we make (as sole traders) goes on expenses, so if you're charging £25 that's £12.50 take-home pay. Slightly above minimum wage!! (Download my free pricing guide on my website www.notapod.co.uk )
5. Not keeping your invoices: Keep everything. All your receipts and invoices for when it comes to tax return.
6. Following the trend: It's easy to follow the trend. You see a few practitioners doing or buying something, so you do too, but end up out of pocket and not using the thing you bought that's now sitting in the corner gathering dust. Instead, think about what your clients will pay for and what you enjoy offering as a service, including cpds that will help your professional development
7. Over spending: I've been guilty of this one, but it's important to rain it in. It's so easy to spend spend spend. Stop and think, do I really need this.

It's normal to have hard days or seasons as a self-employed Foot health practitioner/business owner, but remember how far you have come and all you have achieved, the goals you have set and are still to accomplish. That's what I keep reminding myself anyway ❤️. We did it 🙌
