As from today (Thursday) 'Park Night' has arrived in Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath and East Grinstead. Charges are in play from 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday. Increased from 6pm cut-off.

Free parking on Sundays has gone. The chargeable hours are 9am-5pm. Cost £1.

Bank Holidays will also be chargeable from 9am-5pm.

MSDC want the extra cash, but a year on from saying that village car parks may have to charge too, the consultation hasn't even begun yet!

Let's hope this isn't an election ploy where party success at the (uncertain to take place) County Council elections is more important than the public purse.

The 2025 West Sussex County Council elections - due to be held this May - are likely to be scrapped as West Sussex County Council AND Mid Sussex District Council are both in line to be abolished fully by mid-2027. They will be replaced with something like a Sussex Super Council with an elected Mayor of Sussex.

The exact workings are yet to be decided, but WSCC, East Sussex County Council and Brighton City Council have all jointly submitted an expression of interest to be considered for the Government’s Devolution Priority Programme.

Things will move pretty fast over the next few months - with a consultation due to take place to see if the people of Sussex actually want one authority to be responsible for everything.

We all know how successful consultations are here in these parts: ''𝐷𝑖𝑑𝑛'𝑡 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑤𝑒𝑟 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑜𝑟? W𝑒𝑙𝑙 𝑔𝑜 𝑎ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑑 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑑𝑜 𝑖𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑦𝑤𝑎𝑦!'

West Sussex County Council and Mid Sussex District Council could both be gone by May 2026 with a new super sussex unitary authority replacing them, along with electing a Mayor of Sussex

🍻🥂Wetherspoon have applied to extend the opening hours of The Six Gold Martlets on Church Walk, Burgess Hill by an extra hour Sunday-Thursday (to close at 12:30am) and by another half an hour on Fridays and Saturdays (to 1:30am)

⏰🍳🥞The venue would also open half an hour earlier for breakfast on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings (7am from the existing 7:30am)

🏨 Burgess Hill Town Council are very much opposed to the proposals and have sent in a representation to MSDC's licensing department.

❓What do you think? Should 'Spoons be allowed to stay open later?

The Six Gold Marltets seek to close an hour later Sunday-Thursday, but Burgess Hill Town Council are against the proposals for the town centre location.

Your choice of 24-hour gyms in Burgess Hill could be set to expand if permission is granted for a new fitness facility on the site of the former Mabel's Emporium on Victoria Way - literally a stone's throw from PureGym.

The building would receive a two-storey rear extension if approved.

Fears over parking provision and noise at night have been raised as part of the objections from locals.

Would you welcome this as a new addition to Burgess Hill?

A new 24-hour gym is loooking to move into the former 'Mabel's Emporium' in Victoria Way, Burgess Hill. Would you welcome it?

What do you think of them? Were you among the small number of people who actually came to Church Walk to see them lit up for the first time on Saturday evening?

Do you think Burgess Hill Town Centre has more to offer in 2024 then it did in January 2020? Are the car parks so full of an evening and Sundays that MSDC should now introduce charges?

Mid Sussex District Council are looking to charge for evenings and Sundays, despite the report from expert consultants suggesting that now isn't the right time.

Feedback for the poorly promoted second consultation needs to be emailed to 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧@𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐱.𝐠𝐨𝐯.𝐮𝐤 by 12 noon on 31 October 2024.

Shoe Zone are not renewing their lease at Market Place Shopping Centre, therefore the store will be closing in the near future. Sorry to hear this for the staff.

How long do you think it'll take the agent to fill the unit (if at all!) and what would you like to see come into the centre in its place?
