Go on a butterfly trail! 🦋 (beautiful 📸 courtesy of )

Have you ever been to ? It's a rewilded 61-acre urban meadow in Hanwell, part of Brent River Park.

Between now and August 4th, you can take part in Big Butterfly Count. 🦋 It only takes 15 minutes, and you can participate as many times and in as many different locations as you like—from Warren Farm Nature Reserve, across in Ealing, or even from your own garden! 🌼

Even if you don't see any butterflies, it's still important to log your results. Every record counts and helps build a picture of the health of our environment. 📊🌍

🌞 SUMMER HOLIDAY IDEAS: Idea #4 🌞

Go on the Gruffalo Trail! 🐭🦊🐍🦉🦖

You can find it in . It takes around 20-30 minutes to walk through, and kids love meeting the wooden carvings of the mouse, fox, snake, owl, and finally, the Gruffalo.

After the trail, walk through the car park to find a little playground by the canal with a pirate ship where you can enjoy a picnic.

🌞SUMMER HOLIDAY IDEAS: Idea #4🌞

Enter the Butterfly Drawing Competition!

This summer, alongside the Make it Ealing Butterfly installation all around Central Ealing, they are inviting the children of Ealing to unleash their creativity and participate in a Butterfly Drawing Competition.

Categories:
• Early Years: Up to 4 years old
• 5 to 7 years old
• 8 to 12 years old
• 13 to 16 years old

A winner and a runner-up will be chosen from each category. All winners and runners-up will have their work published in the September issue of

Winners will also receive a £20.00 voucher for and runners-up will receive a £10.00 voucher for The Works.

Special Announcement: Winners will be congratulated on stage at our Summer Courtyard Festival on Saturday, 31st August 2024.

How to Enter:

1. Draw a colourful butterfly using any art materials (crayons, pencils, chalk, paints, etc.).
2. Ask your guardian to email a photo of the drawing to [email protected] along with the following information:
o Child's First Name
o Child's Age
o Guardian's Name and Contact Details

Important: Keep your original artwork safe. We will need it if you're a winner or runner-up.

Deadline: The competition will close on 2nd August 2024 at 5 PM BST.

Guys, I'm BEYOND excited to be holding the Summer issue in my hands. It genuinely doesn't seem real!

I've done a small print-run which will be dotted around some key places in Ealing - take a pic if you find one! I want to see what the reception is so please do let me know your feedback (except if you're telling me typos. At this point, I really don't want to know 🤪)

🌟 Exciting news! 🌟 A brilliant idea is launching at next Tuesday - .of.things!

With support from Ealing Council, the Ealing Library of Things is opening at Ealing Broadway on Tuesday, June 11. Residents can hire dozens of useful household, DIY, and gardening items for a small cost.

This community-focused social enterprise helps save money and reduce waste by renting out items like drills, sound systems, and sewing machines. It also fosters skill-sharing in DIY and repair.

For those needing a helping hand, there's a concession membership with 25% off rentals.

Founded by Emma Shaw, Rebecca Trevalyan, and Sophia Wyatt in 2016, this women-led initiative is inspired by similar projects in Berlin and Toronto. The first self-service lockers launched in Crystal Palace in 2018.

Now open in 17 locations across London, Library of Things has helped over 18,000 people loan more than 30,000 items, saving £4.5 million and preventing 200 tonnes of waste - equivalent to 16 London Routemaster buses!

Through partnerships with Bosch, Kärcher, and STIHL, and support from councils and community groups, they're creating a circular economy and transforming neighborhoods into low-waste, community-powered hubs.

Renting is cost-effective, reduces clutter, and is a great way to learn practical skills. I'm looking forward to renting a jet washer for my patio!
