Raw and optimised versions of our 3D model of the bust of Virginia Woolf. Raw—unedited—3D models are essential for archiving, while creating an optimised version of a 3D model is important for its visualisation. The optimisation process can include gap filling, noise removal, and mesh sculpting. https://spectrum3ds.co.uk/virginia-woolf-lgbt-history-month/

Virginia Woolf: LGBT+ History Month - Spectrum 3D Services

There's a new LGBT+ History Month post on our blog. It's all about Virginia Woolf. And it includes a new 3D model!

If you walk around Bloomsbury, in London’s West End, and stop by at Tavistock Square, you will find a series of memorials. These include only three sculptures – those of Surgeon Louisa Aldrich-Blake; Gandhi; and – perhaps harder to notice – the bust of Virginia Woolf. This relatively small b...

Colour matching is extremely important when carrying out stone repairs!

Specially on stone that has many different shades, like the sandstone of this statue of Robert Burns from Carluke.

This week, we visited Borthwick Parish Church, where we digitised a group of Dundas family memorial plaques. They will soon be turned into a 3D model!

About the Church -

The church stands in a dominating site close to Borthwick Castle with magnificent views across the countryside. The east part of this historic church is substantially medieval with its 12th-century apse and the 15th century Arniston Aisle. The west end with its tower and broach spire was added by Brown & Wardrop in 1864. Medieval fabric survives inside as well, with the magnificent Borthwick tomb and pre-Reformation piscina. The church serves Middleton village, Borthwick and the surrounding area.

Conservation is always important, but not always noticeable. The removal of algae from Carluke Parish Historical Society's Robert Burns statue was both! So satisfying.

24/05/2019

The first step on the conservation of this statue of Robert Burns, owned by Carluke Parish Historical Society, was the removal of soiling and biological growth. We used many tools, including brushes, wooden tools, and a dental specification steam cleaner!

You will soon be able to see these new information boards at All Hallows and Inchinnan Parish Church, Inchinnan! They include information about the virtual reconstruction of All Hallows Church, and the digital documentation of the Inchinnan stones.

A peak at our new information boards. These will be placed at All Hallows and the current church. We hope you will find them useful. 🙂

Gravestone rescue documentary celebrates Scotland-Norway links

Archaeology, conservation, digital documentation, music… We love it when a project combines so many things we enjoy. Check out this piece of news to learn more about 'Monumentally Grieg!'!

SCOTLAND’S historic ties with Norway are being celebrated in a new documentary about the dramatic rescue of an iconic gravestone in Aberdeenshire.

Before we start working on conservation, documenting the subject is essential. We recently 3D recorded this statue of Robert Burns, owned by Carluke Parish Historical Society, as part of its conservation works. Stay tuned for more news on this project!
