I was really looking forward to reuniting with Nelson Mandela's grandson next week in SPSC Glasgow but the Westminster Government is playing shenanigans with his diplomatic visa. This illustrates why we need an independent Scotland so we can invite whomever we want to come and enjoy our hospitality. The news today about the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh was truly shocking - here's my view for what it's worth. I met Ismail Haniyeh several times in Gaza and interviewed him once ... becoming one of the few western journalists to do so ... that's what journalists do for a living: interview interesting people.

OK so our flotilla has been postponed - we are down but certainly not out! Drawing on the indomitable spirit of the Palestinians we will still sail. We've hit a wall, that's all - there's always another way and we will not let the Zionists win.
Guinea Bissau, a tiny former Portuguese colony in West Africa, is about to learn the folly of getting into bed with Israel. It needs to tell Tel Aviv to bu**er off and let our flotilla sail.
This venture has cost tens of millions so far and is costing Palestinian lives by delaying aid to Gaza - I doubt Israel will bail out its new friend which is facing the mother of all lawsuits.
