Big news from NHS England. 🚨

It's being reported that record numbers of people in England have received a dementia diagnosis in the past year.

We're pleased to hear that more people are getting the diagnosis they need.

And, we're getting close to meeting the 66.7% target for diagnosis rates.

This is thanks to a huge, concerted effort from the to get those rates up.

A good result, but there's still a lot of work to do.

Early and accurate diagnosis is vital in helping someone get the care, support, and treatment they need.

A third of people with dementia in England are living without a diagnosis, and there's big variation in diagnosis rates based on where you live.

This needs to change.

We need bold, ambitious and achievable new targets to make sure everyone gets the diagnosis they need.

And we're ready to support NHS England in any way we can to get more people diagnosed.

Matt Singleton’s father is currently in respite care at a nursing home, while his wife (and primary carer) has a much needed holiday. The home is lovely, the food is great (roast on Sunday with him) and the people treat him wonderfully. We make sure he has plenty of company with visits from family and friends. We also really make sure that his wife is kept up to date (lots of photos) so she knows he’s being well looked after - this means she’s much more relaxed and enjoying her break!

Being a Dementia Friend is all about taking action on dementia, showing those living with dementia that you are there for them and that you understand more about the condition they are living with.

There are many ways you can show your support for those living with dementia, and these actions can be big or small.

Once you have signed up to become a Dementia Friend, either online or attending a Dementia Friends Information Session, you will receive one of our Dementia Friends badges.

By wearing your badge with pride, it can be an action within itself and helps those living with dementia know you are there for them.

Matt Singleton isn’t an “NI Man”. However, his family did move from there 2 generations before him (he also loves Pat Jennings and Pat Rice)!

A specialist in age and ageing founded a publishing company to create books for people living with dementia.

Our friends at Alzheimer's Society share Matt Singleton and Brian’s story which led to ‘looking back at … The 1966 World Cup’. With kicking off on Friday, what better time to relive England football team’s greatest moment to date in the men’s game! Follow our page for more updates

Our friend Matt from Cognitive Books, and his wonderful dad, Brian, are back with volume two of their dementia-friendly book series.

This one is all about something on all our minds, a moment we hope to recapture in the coming weeks. Everyone, this June, we’re ‘looking back at… The 1966 World Cup.’

For many people from Brian’s generation (and beyond), ’66 was a memorable year. Matt said:

‘Starting his own business and England’s World Cup win in 1966 are memories Dad holds dearly. Whenever I speak to him about the 60s, those are events he always mentions.

‘Dad always shared stories with me of England’s World Cup win when I was young. At 26 years old, he was the perfect age to enjoy it. I’m forever jealous!

‘Researching the story of the 1966 World Cup win made me realise what an excellent generation of footballers it was. Knowing my dad was there to witness it is something special.

‘Dad was always an avid football fan as well as a great player in his day. He is the same generation as those players, so he holds an affinity with that special team.’

With the men’s Euros around the corner, it’s the perfect time to relive England’s historic victory, as we (hopefully) prepare for another one!
