Memories of Braindance 🧠
Fun with synths
Memories of Braindance 🧠
Making some old school electro. I’ve got the TR-08 running through an overdrive and I’m stacking the Minilogue on top of the 01A for some beefy bass
I’ve the house to myself this week so some of my synths have come out of the cold garage and into the nice warm living room. Here’s a little jam I made. Amazing how the environment effects what you make. In a nice warm room surrounded by purring cats my music is a touch warmer too.
This was one take with no edits. The bassline is the SH01A, the drums the TR08, the acid the TB-03 with some nice Strymon DIG delay, the chords played live on the minilogue and the RS7000 is taking care of the Bob Ross samples. I used the on board sequencers of all the machines rather than sequencing on the RS7000

Made a footwork-y jungle tune from chopped up J-lo samples. This was mostly made on Ableton on a long haul flight a few weeks before I started accumulating hardware. And then I almost forgot about it because I was too busy playing with my new toys.

Any Bristol folk have a real TB-303 available for hire for a photoshoot tomorrow? Would be treated with reverential respect. Also interested in an SH-101 or a TR-808
Sorry I’ve not been synthing lately. It’s been a chaotic time over on the other page plus I spent the last month making an ocean themed ambient EP for Charlotte’s birthday which is a bit personal to be sharing here. Anyways I’m about to attempt a cover of the Dr Who theme tune using nothing but an SH-01, reverb and delay pedal. Wish me luck!

First attempt - I might try and work out all the piano parts and layer them but then again maybe not tbh 😅
A little video of me trying to make New Order’s Confusion (the Blade tune) from scratch in 10 minutes
Edit: I’ve got the pedals working together now. Thanks to Easter and Owen for the advice. Will post the acid line again at full power tomorrow (when I’m not gonna wake everyone up on the street)
The terrible thing with starting a new page is that you end up with a completely fresh Facebook feed populated by what it thinks the average person likes. Mainly people doing life hacks that involve mutilating their house or clickbait from a page with "lad" in the name.
Please suggest some good synth/electronic music based pages and groups to save me from this.
Did a little breakdown of how I made Josh Wink’s Higher State on hardware. If you care.
TW: I do call my boutiques 303, 909 etc on occasion - no disrespect to the real machines.
Any Yamaha RS7000 users about that can explain how the sections function actually works? Mine is doing all sorts of mad things. My intended work flow was to create all the elements in section A and then copy them all to the other sections and delete and tweak. But when I delete a track on section B it also deletes on section A… sometimes?! Like it’s not even consistent. Also yesterday I made a snare rush on track 7 section B and when I went back to section A that snare rush had magically appeared on track 3?! What the f**k is happening what is the best way of developing sections on this thing without wanting to lob it against a wall? Is mine just broken?
Welcome. This is Jim from Jim'll Paint It. Thanks for following my synth page. I've been producing music for ages but recently I've got back into hardware and am in the process of building a completely DAW-free setup based around a Yamaha RS-7000.
Currently I'm mostly recreating tracks I like as a way of properly learning the gear I've got as it forces me to use them in ways I might not if I was just making my own stuff. But there will be original music coming soon.
Also my setup isn't yet complete and is sorely lacking a decent polysynth. As you might have guessed from my logo top of my wishlist is a Juno-60 (the JU-06A isn't going to cut it with just 4 note polyphony) and I'd really like a JP8000 for trancey super saws and maybe a Minimoog or Minilogue for some more out-there sounds. Stay tuned!

This was a real labour of love and a huge learning curve as it was my first example of sample editing on the 7k. The break is a shuffled edit of a direct sample of Lyn Collins Think. I remade the vocal sample by time stretching my own voice. By far the easiest thing was the acid programming.
