This year, the team at Purple Radio are committed to making a positive impact on our local community. Throughout 2022, we will be supporting Wearside Women in Need, a local charity that provides refuge and outreach services for women and children fleeing domestic abuse. Our first event - the Purple Radiothon - will be a 24 hour live marathon, beginning on Friday 28th January, in support of WWiN. Now that we have begun interviews with our Station Manager applicants, its time to find their Deputy!
The Deputy Manager assists the SM in overseeing day to day life at the station, which means they help with budgeting, memberships, training, events, branding and more. It does not matter if you don't have much technical knowledge, what matters is that you are willing to learn and be creative! This role is what you make it, so you should be the kind of person who loves to brainstorm new events and ideas to improve the station.

This World Radio Day, Purple Radio is teaming up with 3 other Northern student stations to celebrate everything the North East has to offer! Since so many students haven’t been able to travel back yet, we plan to come together on air for a day of shows focused on some of the things that define this region we love. Tune in between 8am and 7pm this Saturday to hear local bands, comedy, history, slang and much more from some of our best Northern Presenters!
Listen in between 3pm and 6pm for Purple’s own Alice Liddle, Betty Douglas, Kaylin Raine, Libby Wright and Alex Jackson! Rounding off at 6pm, community station Seven Bridges Radio will end with a student mental health special.

Applications for Purple Radio’s 2021/22 Station Manager are NOW OPEN!
This is the most important role at Purple. Supported by their Exec team and Deputy, the Station Manager oversees everything that happens at Purple and can have a big influence on the station.

The first step of applications is to fill out the form by the 15th Feb, 4pm (copy & paste the Qs into an email or word doc rather than answering the form directly please) & send to [email protected]. You’ll then be invited for an interview with the current Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager.

For 25 years, Durham students have run this small station, overcome huge hurdles to broadcast amazing, creative, and let's face it, pretty wacky content for student listeners and beyond.
