Here's a typical comment from one of our happy customers:

"Thank you so much for the great contribution you gave to our party. Your extra lighting ideas and the video screen to show family photos during dinner certainly added to the occasion. The fact that there was never a moment on the dance floor after dinner without it being packed certainly gave us the assurance that you were on a winning streak, and the clever thing was, you must have really listened to the moment to judge what best to play to keep them there. I hope we have another get-together when we can use your services, and I have no hesitation at all to recommend you for such an occasion." Our Story: Spreading The Musical Love...

We invite you to jump into our Musical Time Machine and take a ride to the nightclub you loved back in the day. We’re lucky enough to be in the business of providing the musical backdrop that gives your party guests the time of their lives, and we know this only happens when the music is just right. DJ John Bongo has been entertaining folks for all sorts of special occasions for well over 30 years, and knows a thing or two about creating that vibe on the dance floor needed to make a party very special. Over the years, he's been at the musical helm for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, corporate events, and has appeared at venues such as hotels, clubs, festivals and pubs. He's the creator of 'Devon Funk & Soul Club' and regularly plays funk, soul and disco classics (as John Bongo Funk), from vinyl, as well as digital media. He takes great pride in entertaining party people with his selection of classic tunes, and loves nothing better than to see utter wild abandon taking place on a packed dance floor. An event with John Bongo's Musical Time Machine is all about getting your people dancing and smiling. Together, we'll create a place where you'll find you and your guests transported back to the days of your favourite weekend club where the DJ seemed to know your ultimate playlist. John Bongo's Musical Time Machine is also about nostalgia - in a way that celebrates the best times of your life, with the unforgettable soundtrack of great tunes that gave you that very first spark of excitement and ignited your passion for pop back in the day. A magical, spinning kaleidoscopic soundscape of familiar tunes, put together to build the vibe, and keep it running at full tilt all night, right until the very end. How many times have you been to a party where the important job of the DJ has been handed over to a Spotify playlist played on an iPhone? The sound may be great, the lighting may be amazing, but the dynamic of the party just isn't quite right. Someone's been put in charge of the tunes - they've not done a bad job, but all too often, the 'flow' of the evening has been stopped in it's tracks by a bad choice of song, or an unfamiliar remix of a classic tune. This little blip can change the whole dynamic of the night. One minute you had a full dance floor, but then along comes 'that track' - special to someone of course, but not to most - so the floor clears in a flash. Once this has happened, it can be an uphill struggle to get back to where you were. Your party folk will have wandered off to the bar, gone to find the loo or got chatting to auntie Pat who wants to fill them in on the last 30 years of the twists and turns of collecting ornamental china dogs. It's gone, you've lost that energy. You can get it back if you can drop a real anthem right? But what if it happens 5 to 10 times that night? Each time one of those dance floor duds appear, it's harder to restore that beautiful vibe you had only a few minutes before. Having someone with experience in control of your music, with a sense of 'what works' is massively important to the success of your party. Why would you let a novice pilot the aircraft you're in? A more serious situation yes, but the same basic principle. We've been doing this for years, and the biggest compliment we ever get - and ultimately the reason we get re-hired - is that we "read the dance floor" and "just knew what to play next". We never get tired of hearing that. DJ John Bongo is of the generation that knows and remembers these era's and their music, rather than one who just claims to know the tunes. And that makes a huge difference. So, we promise to give you and your guests a great night they'll remember for a long time to come, playing classic tunes your party people will love hearing on your special night. We specialise in (but are not limited to) retro music of all genres to bring you a night of fun where your party guests will find it hard to stay seated. They will hear:

'80's Pop, Electro & 'New Romantic'
Funk & Soul, including classics and new
Classic Disco from the Studio 54 era
Motown, Stax & Northern Soul
2-tone, Mod, Ska & Reggae
Guitar Rock Classics..and of course, the very best of the latest chart tunes

We'll help you let the good times roll for all types of functions from weddings, birthday parties and other family special occasions through to conference evening entertainment and corporate black-tie events... and we'll travel anywhere in the UK. We've also been hired for festivals and other outdoor events - in fact, anywhere that could be enhanced by music perfectly-tailored to the situation. We're sensibly-priced, and can cater for just about any kind of event or party, with a wide variety of music to keep your guests dancing. We can also give you just the right kind of lighting to set the mood for your event. For an even bigger impression, there are options for video screens, large and small. We even carry our own disco mirror-ball. So with a great light show, a smooth and punchy sound system and optional video projection for your photos or visual effects, we won't fail to impress. We're the best choice for important events, and with more than 30 years experience in the business, we have a great track record and proven customer satisfaction. For your peace of mind, we arrive complete with backup equipment to ensure that the show goes on despite any technical issues. We know that meticulous planning and preparation is the key to a successful event. We will work with you in advance to plan all aspects of your event, from the format of your party, sound and lighting equipment and any video ideas you have, through to your music preferences, along with key timings and special announcements. If you value the quality of your guests entertainment at your special event then we'd love to hear from you. Listening to all the tributes to Steve Wright yesterday, it made me realise that there are good people in the world, and there are great radio presenters, but rarely do they exist in the same person. One great thing to have come from Steve's passing is hearing some of the best songs on the wireless for a long time 😃

There's some irony in the timing of his passing... he left us 2 days before Valentine's Day (he hosted 'Steve Wright's Love Songs'), and a day before World Radio Day. Very fitting for such a huge radio talent 📻 🎶

Can't believe I'm writing this...

As one of the UK's top music radio personalities, Steve Wright became the voice of afternoon BBC Radio 1, and later, BBC Radio 2. Adopting the American 'zoo' radio format, complete with co-presenters, comedy character sketches, and interviews with celebs and stars, his unique show remained the biggest thing on UK daytime radio.

His relaxed and informal style drew listeners in, making Steve their 'friend' on the airwaves. The chaotic studio craziness that blasted out of your speakers every afternoon concealed the meticulous planning and control he had of each show. He made it all look very easy, and I'm sure he was a huge inspiration for many budding (no 'g') radio presenters.

His enthusiasm, professionalism, and sense of fun, as well as his love and knowledge of classic pop music made him a firm radio favourite for many listeners over the last 4 decades. He'll be very much missed ❤️ (John Bongo)

Happy 54th Birthday BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2 🎂🎵🤩

On 30 September, 1967, the BBC's Light Programme split in two. Younger listeners were given Radio 1, while the Light Programme itself morphed into Radio 2, continuing with its mix of big bands, record requests, sport and comedy.

But do you know which DJ inspired the lyrics to I Am The Walrus? Or why Radio 1's first weather forecast prompted 12 complaints?

Here are 50 facts to celebrate the stations' birthdays...

Starring Tony Blackburn, Chris Evans, Terry Wogan, Annie Nightingale, John Peel and Chris Moyles.

June is Black Music Month 🎶

You might find yourself wondering if there's any point in a month to celebrate black music - after all, don't some of us celebrate it every day?... but I say, if putting it in the spotlight for a short while gives even one person a lifetime of love for it, or ignites the fire within someone to give them the desire to become a singer or musician - and maybe the next great artiste, then it's worth it.

Many of us live and breath this genre of music every hour of our lives, but many people don't even know some of this wonderful music even exists. Let's get it out there to the masses and spread the enjoyment and the love 🎶 🌍 💖

Happy Black Music Month!

One of the great things about Christmas works parties is that you get to witness people, who often spend more time with each other than their families, in a completely different situation, relaxing, having fun, eating and drinking without the focus or stress of work. You can see the different dynamics at work... people seeing each other in ways they never have before (!), strengthening relationships, and in some cases, making them.

We were at the North Molton Sports and Community Centre last Saturday night helping to create the warm seasonal vibe along with the delish buffet, Christmassy table layout and room decor - despite the end-of-the-world weather going on outside. Thanks to all the guests who partied into the night with us - with a 90 minute extension... it was a late one! Oh, and a big thanks to the very helpful chap who assisted us with getting our gear in when we first arrived - in the face of driving rain and gale force winds (and, at one point, almost losing our disco ball across the car park...) 😕
