This group started in Hebden Bridge and has been consistently full. However there is currently space at the Todmorden meeting. Give Liz a call to book your place.

I have spaces for new Mamas to join us at Todmorden Thula Mama in the Todfellows Space. Gentle, soothing harmony singing for new mothers; to soothe and calm, nourish and lift, and remind you that you're a person, not just a life support machine.

I'm very focused on creating a safe space - we sit in a large circle (with distancing and windows open) and we're a precrawlers group, so there are no marauding toddlers to trample on the newborns. Thula often runs with a waiting list so this is rare chance to sign up and get an immediate place.

Tod Thula runs on Tuesday mornings, but if that's no good for you, join us in Hebden on Friday mornings.

Contact me through the page or directly on 07596 900305 to book.

Don't forget The Lamplighter Festival is this Saturday in Centre Vale Park 😁🌄

It’s happening SOON!! Got a question about LAMPLIGHTER 2022? Hopefully you’ll find the answer here, in a massive list of FAQs…

✨LAMPLIGHTER SATURDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2022
Handmade Parade are very excited to be bringing the Lamplighter event back to Todmorden. We are also looking forward to creating a magical illuminated lantern trail in Centre Vale park – the first time we have used the location (and hopefully not the last!)

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

✨IN ADVANCE

Are there any workshops to make things?
Due to uncertainty around Covid restrictions / guidance when setting up the project, we decided not to hold public lantern making sessions this year. However DIY Lantern kits are available on a first come first served basis from the following places
- Todmorden Tourist Info: open Monday – Saturday 10am-3pm
- Tod College (when open https://tlchub.org.uk/whats-on/)
Kits are available from Monday 31 January and include everything you need. Please then bring your lantern along to the event – more details in the kit!

✨Do I need to book a ticket?
You don’t need to book a ticket but it is helpful for us to have an idea of how many people might attend. You can do this via Eventbrite

https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/lamplighter-2022-tickets-255107853457

Tickets are free and donations are welcome to support our programme of events and projects in the Calder Valley

✨I would like to have a stall at the event
We don’t have availability for this event but please get in touch for future projects with a bit more information about what you offer / do

✨I would like to volunteer or get involved
Similarly we don’t require volunteers for this Lamplighter but may in the future – details will be posted on our social media and website or contact [email protected]

✨I am an artist, performer or community group and would like to get involved
The programming has been completed for this, In partnership with Thingumajig theatre https://thingumajig.info we have run a big lantern masterclass which is full but we’re exploring doing something similar in the future. Please keep an eye on our social media and website for further opportunities in the future. For this event we are particularly looking to develop links with individuals and organisations based in Todmorden

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

✨ON THE DAY

✨What should I bring?
Wrap up warm, prepared for all weather conditions and wear waterproof shoes. Light up things and torches. Often at our night time events, pedlars turn up and sell single use plastic battery operated toys. Inevitably these end up as waste, which take a long to decompose. Although they do look very pretty (bright lights bright lights) if you already have something to bring that lights or flashes please do – it’s better for the environment! Alternatively just come and enjoy the lanterns in the park
Will there be a street parade or any activity in Todmorden Town Centre?
Not on this occasion. The audience will move around the lantern trail rather than the lanterns move around them!

✨Will there be any traffic restrictions in or around Todmorden including bus times?
Unlike previous Lamplighter events, we won’t be closing roads or limiting traffic flow: everything takes place in the park

✨Getting to the park
https://www.calderdale.gov.uk/v2/residents/leisure-and-culture/parks-and-open-spaces/parks/centre-vale-park

✨There are trains to and from Todmorden train station as well as buses to the bus station. Please check relevant timetables for more information. The park is a short 10 minute walk the train and bus stations

✨I haven’t booked, can I just turn up?
Yes that’s fine – there are timed tickets via Eventbrite at
6pm
6.30pm
7.00pm
7.30pm
8.00pm
So just come along to one of those. If you can book via Eventbrite that’s appreciated but not essential. You can stay as long as you like and leave whenever. The area isn’t fenced so you do not require a ticket for access but it will help us get an idea of numbers in advance

✨Where in the park will you be?
In the middle near the statue and surrounding area – follow the lights!

✨Car Parking
There is parking available at Todmorden Cricket Club and the Sports Centre NB we are not stewarding or managing car parking arrangements and if you can please travel on foot / bike or by public transport / taxi

✨Toilets
There will be limited portaloo provision in the park, including a wheelchair accessible unit. We are unable to provide baby changing or other changing facilities in this instance

✨Food and refreshments
There will be a number of food stalls Including vegetarian options but as there are 4 food stalls it may not be possible to cater for other dietary requirements in this instance. It is OK to bring our own food and drink to the event (but please take rubbish away with you and / or dispose of it properly)

✨Start of the event
Make your way from the play area / sports centre side to the middle of the park along paths
End of the event
We will ask people to leave the event area from 9pm onwards so our team can derig things and go and get warm: please safely make your way out of the park when requested

✨Is the park open throughout the event / on Saturday 12 February
Yes. The Park Run and football will take place as usual

✨What if it’s cold, wet or windy?
The event will take place whatever the weather – come rain, wind or shine (hopefully shine followed by a calm still night!)

✨Accessibility
There isn’t additional disabled parking aside from what’s usually available at the Sports Centre. All areas of the trail are accessible for people with limited mobility, wheelchair users or pushchairs. There are paths throughout the park with some small hills. One area has a cobbled / uneven surface. We do not have a designated quiet space but people can leave the trail at any point and re-join

✨Assistance
If you have any questions during the event, or require assistance, please speak to one of the event team or stewards who will be able to answer your questions and provide help. We have first aiders on site if required

✨Covid
As the event is taking place outside, and in line with government guidance, you do not need to wear a mask but are welcome to do so. There will be hand sanitiser at various points but please also bring your own if required. We will not be operating a one way system but have spread things out to allow space for viewing … and enjoyment!

✨Fireworks
There are no fireworks planned as part of the event. There might be a small amount of fire animation but no loud bangs and there will be live music

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

✨AFTER THE EVENT
Safe travels and get warm! Have a hot drink

✨Feedback and ideas for future Lamplighters
If you have any thoughts or comments and have booked a ticket via Eventbrite we will be in touch with a short survey. This feedback is useful for planning, and developing our work locally

✨Lost property
We will keep hold of anything we find for two weeks and after this it will be donated to charity. Please contact us via Social Media if you have a lost something

We look forward to welcoming you to the Lamplighter event at Centre Vale park on Saturday 12 February

Looks like fun!

Todmorden Town Council are delighted to announce that this year’s Christmas Tree Lights Switch-on will take place on Saturday 20th November.

It’s going to be a fun-filled day with fairground rides for children from 11am, Magic and Punch & Judy Shows through the day and carol singing with the Todmorden Community Brass Band and Todmorden Choral Society from around 4.30pm. The official switch on will take place at around 5pm.

The Christmas Tree lights will be switched on this year by the eight winners of our Children's Design a Light Competition. Their fantastic light displays will adorn the Market Hall wall and light up Bramsche Square.

We can't wait to see these new lights in action and our thanks go to the young people who designed them as well as to Todmorden Town Deal whose Accelerator Fund paid for the new displays again this year.

New mama?

Thula Mama is a baby group that's not really for the baby at all. It's for you. We sing in harmony and it feels good. And that's it really.

And your tiny person can sleep right through the session if they like. There's no such thing as "too young for Thula Mama" - join us as soon as you're ready to leave the house. Thula is here for you. The 'you' that suddenly disappeared when that gorgeous tiny person arrived in your life and changed everything. The 'you' that suddenly switched over from having a life, to being a a life-support system.

We sit and we sing with other Mamas who know just how hard it is. And it feels lovely to do something for YOU. To learn simple songs and make something beautiful, with people who GET IT. Mums and babies - precrawlers only. No toddlers on the loose. No toys being shared - in fact nothing being shared. And windows are open, surfaces are sanitised, masks are on the WHOLE time, we sit in marked, distanced positions, we bring our own drinks and cushions.

And everyone can do this. I know singing in front of others is a vulnerable thing - but you're not going to be singing on your own. We're all doing this together. And trust me, those beautiful songs will stick, and you'll take them home in your head, and suddenly you'll find that you, and your family, have a whole new repertoire to sing when that babe won't sleep.

And for almost ten years now I've had the wonderful job of sitting in the middle, holding the space, guiding the singing, making the circle feel safe and inclusive and creating that tingly magic that comes from harmony singing. And who am I? I'm Liz Powers. A qualified music teacher. A trained choir director. More importantly, a mum. And what makes me think you'd enjoy Thula Mama? The women tell me so.

"Invaluable for post natal wellbeing"
"so welcoming and inclusive, good for the soul"
"absolutely superb, incredibly uplifting, boosted my mood, cannot recommend this enough"
"great for my mental wellbeing, felt comfortable breastfeeding in a group"
"I sing with my baby more at home now, I have gained self confidence, I am happy after every session"
"really calming, I have looked forward to it every week"
"very professional, welcoming and easy to follow teacher"
"it's my favourite class, I have actively begun to sing to my children and they sing back to me"
"I struggle a lot less with settling my baby"
"Always feel good after the sessions, I would highly recommend this group"
"This session is the most wonderful, rewarding session I have ever been to"
"Even when I was at my lowest and feeling down I could come and speak/cry and it made things better"
"Best session in the week"
"A real boost to the mental health of both mummies and babies"
"An inclusive, honest forum to talk about the difficulties of looking after young babies, I honestly believe this class has helped keep depression at bay"
"I have coped better with Post Natal Depression, my child absolutely loves music as a result"
"I like the friends, the singing, just a sense of belonging, this group is the best"

If you're keen, contact me through the fb page. Even if the baby's still on the inside; putting your name on the waiting list now means I'm more likely to have a space for you when the time comes. And hit me up with your questions, I could chat about this all day.

Looking forward to singing with you,

Liz x
