To mark summer solstice we are launching the archive of underGROWTH which has been created by Alix Villanueva as part of the Garden Zine. We are also releasing two limited edition publications made a part of the project.
‘underGROWTH is a series of eco-art inter[actions] that create a unique platform for people to consider, confront & articulate issues relating to the environment: the air we breathe, the city we move through, the trees that line our streets, the w**ds that breakthrough the paving slabs, the River Sherbourne as it runs through and beneath the city, the food we eat, & ultimately our human responses’
A huge thank you to co-curators Lauren Sheerman and George Ttoouli and to Food Union coordinators Marc Hammond and Greg Muldoon for the investment you each made in this project and as importantly to all the artists, activists and scientists we commissioned or who offered us advice during the projects life, we hope this archive ensures your work can be revisited, explored and enjoyed by wider audience. Tap into the seasonal segment to see the work created.
underGROWTH was supported by funds from Heart of England Community Foundation and DIALOGUE
Wishing us all a

Our friend and collaborator Dr Chris Maughan has created this fantastic video to enable us to test our own soil without the use of specific equipment or chemicals.
If you feel inclined to take the test yourself, lay out a fist sized soil sample to dry for 24 hours before watching the video. Please remember to record your results in the spreadsheet attached to the description of the video in youtube. It will help us build a map of soil quality!

And this was so wonderful. They were the last musicians to play live at Food Union on a really cold evening and then The Pod organised this with Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 for Solstice. The gig marked the end of our Solstice celebrations and saw the launch of the Garden Zine website. We must send at Bird in the Belly a copy of the Zine! Here’s the YouTube link to the gig. https://youtu.be/dat6Xl4Hw8E
