David Sanborn - Tribute On A Train

From "Lisa" to "Love Is Not Enough", to "Lotus Blossom" (twice), "Chicago Song", "Hey", and many orher memorable tunes, he made his saxophone fill a void with joy. He could be as smooth as they come or just make it a rasping yet captivating tune that brought me satisfaction as a jazz fan.

Perhaps, his best albums for me were his collaborations with Marcus Miller, which I felt brought out his best during that period.

For me, the crown in the 80s was his partnership with Bob James and Marcus Miller, with the Grammy award winning album Double Vision, which also featured the incomparable Al Jarreau with "Since I Fell For You", and of course, the song that started with that unmistakable drum intro, the classic, "Maputo".

Over the years, he had adapted his style with whichever whim the genre was leading with but his familiar and recognizable sax sound made him the giant he became. In later years, he was loved for his many live performances.

Run For Cover will always be my favourite. Ever.

Mr Sanborn, RIP.
