In March 2020, as an era-defining pandemic swept the globe, and the UK went into its first national lockdown, a truly original project was born in the steel city of Sheffield. Size of a Planet is a collective of 19 diverse musicians, vocalists, and producers with an impressive record of achievements, including World Music Awards, Grammy nominations, UK and US #1 hit records, and credits with the likes of Joe Strummer, Richard Hawley, Jarvis Cocker, Basement Jaxx, Florence, and the Machine, Cassius and Bob Sinclar.

Originally conceived of by guitarist and producer Bryan Day, the project is a musical version of the old family fold-down paper game known as Consequences, Pass it On, or Exquisite Co**se. Bryan signed up 19 friends, then each person recorded a musical idea and emailed it on to the next in line, who would add their own bit of sonic alchemy. 19 passes later these initial ideas, now full to bursting with musical goodness, triumphantly returned to their originators in glorious technicolour for a grand reveal with songs encompassing genres, from R&B and Soul to Pop and Electronica.

The Size of a Planet project has emerged as an innovative and resourceful way for this collective to focus their talents on creating fresh, new, and original music, during a time of lockdowns and restrictions, which has had devastating consequences for artists and musicians across the globe. The results are truly remarkable; each musician’s contribution stays in sync with the needs of the track, whilst also flexing their considerable creative chops, resulting in some truly inspiring songs. It is now time for the project to emerge from the shadows and into the light.
