We love swaddling because it helps baby to sleep more soundly by making them feel safe and preventing the startle reflex - the cute little jump they do that looks like you just leapt out of a cupboard at them!

Our top swaddle tips

⭐Fold your swaddle into a large triangle. When baby is tiny you want the triangle to meet itself at the bottom. This makes it safer as you have less extra material and as your baby grows you can move the triangle up.

⭐ Place baby so their feet are pointing to the point of the triangle and shoulders are in line with the straight edge of the triangle. Flatten and stretch swaddle underneath.

⭐When swaddling baby make sure their arms are comfortably by their sides or coming across to meet their tummy. This little bit of pressure on the tummy can help comfort and release any wind.

We hope this helps with any swaddling issues you might be having, feel free to drop any questions below

By now you probably have a bit of a sleep routine that you feel comfortable with, but we wanted to add some tips you might want to incorporate:

👶🏼Start by ending active play and packing away any noisy toys!

👶🏼Begin your bedtime routine with 2 or more feeds close together, starting around 4 for a 6 - 630 bedtime.

👶🏼Feed and wind thoroughly

👶🏼Turn on white noise and incorporate the sleepy time words when you put your wee one down in the crib.

Of course you can add bath/massage time to this if it helps or its something you love doing, as well as all the other usual things like nappy change and pyjamas but we'd love to hear if there are any other top tips you incorporate into your bedtime routine.

No, us neither 🤣
But it doesn't need to be a big stressful deal so don't put pressure on yourself!
Here's our top tips in terms of clock changes..

😴 Do nothing in terms of sleep timings. YES this sounds scary and goes against a lot of the other advice, however most babies and children will adjust quickly to the hours change.

⏰ Allow yourself a few days after the clock has changed to fully adjust to the new timings.

😴And finally, as with any change, be consistent and you will get through without too many challenges

Lastly, you could check out our episode all about this on the Sleep Mums podcast episode 44 Clock Changes
and if you have any clock change tips of your own, we'd love to hear yours in the comments!

As flattering as it might feel at first it can be really tough being the "favourite" parent and quite tiring for that parent too!

Although it can be tough, try to make sure the person who starts the settling works with your baby until they are back to sleep.

This is not about responding to their needs; its about sharing the load and aiming to be consistent.

In the beginning, you could try giving your partner one of your jumpers that smells of you (if you're the favourite and vice versa) which can help your baby settle if they are more used to you.

Babies don't come with a manual, nor does the whole parenting thing, it's so hard and fantastic and scary and wonderful all at the same time!
But no one knows how to do it!

And as your wee one gets older, it doesn't get easier!
We love the new NSPCC parenting campaign about never letting go of my hand - if you haven't seen it go and check out the full advert now it's outstanding and encapsulates the love and worry and heartbreak of being a parent.

The only tip we could give is to do it your way, because theres no other way!

So many “helpful tips” and advice are dolled out to you when you're pregnant for the first time, mostly to just “enjoy sleeping now”

So much time is spent just on worrying and not knowing if you're doing the right thing, what advice would you give yourself if you could go back now?

Instead, we have created a simple framework that we hope can really help new parents to create a schedule and routine that fits them, with tips and advice along the way.

We hope youre not feeling too frazzled and more full of excitement for tomorrow and we just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas, however, you do it!

Christmas can be an exciting time, especially if you have wee ones 🎅🏼
But it can also be a really tough time for lots of you if you are missing loved ones, going it alone as a single parent this year, having family over that you know might cause friction and fighting, struggling with the financial strain of gifts this year and the neverending pressure of creating the “perfect Christmas” as a parent!

We just wanted to say, however you choose to “do Christmas” this year, or even if you choose not to do it at all, it's OK.

🎄It's just one day in a whole year

🎄 You don't have to do “all the things” Christmas can be what you want it to be.

🎄 If you want to sit in your pjs all day and get a takeaway for lunch or just choose your favourite food DO IT!

🎄You can always do Christmas on the 24th or 26th you don't have to do it on the 25th.

🎄It's hard not to get overwhelmed by everything, but make sure you take time for you too!

This is my tradition…. every year for 12 years Ive spent Christmas Eve watching / crying to Love Actually - (If you don’t cry when Emma Thompson opens that CD you’re made of stone!) And wrapping presents.

I’m Mrs Christmas, I love it. I start prepping for next year in January…

But this year is different, this year sucks and it's all hard. We are separated and although I’ve been very lucky the last 3 years that things have naturally fallen on my time, this year my wee people will be with their Dad on Christmas Eve.

I want to get excited and I am, but I’m also worried about how it will work, how will Santa come and not put any doubts in their wee heads that he’s not real.

How will we fit everything I always do into half the day without it being overwhelming, how will I mask the sadness I feel at not seeing their wee faces first thing?

This is my tradition…. every year for 12 years I've spent Christmas Eve watching/crying to Love Actually - (If you don’t cry when Emma Thompson opens that CD you’re made of stone!) And wrapping presents.

If you believe what you see on Hallmark Christmas films decorating the Christmas tree is a “magical” affair with Christmas jumpers and hot chocolates loaded with marshmallows..

When we know, the reality can be quite different, especially if the tree lights are tangled and everyone has a specific way they want to do the tree - angel or star at the top? tinself or no tinsel, colour coordinated or anything goes.

But what we really want to know, the burning question is:

Do you have the “perfect baubles strategically placed” type tree that little people dont get a look in on or are you more a “chuck everything on and just hide the really dodgy school decorations at the back?”

Come on, you know you want to tell us!

If you’re a parent and youre sleep sleep-deprived you might not be looking forward to the festive season! All the excitement and extra stimulation can be unsettling for little people, so here are our top 5 tips for things that can help ease the stress.

1. Pack your sack
Before you head out, even if it's just for the day write a list and make sure you’re prepared, even overprepared isn't a bad thing, overpack.

2. Home Comforts
Keep things as familiar as possible, you will probably be in lots of new environments & lots of new faces, so keeping things as “normal” as possible can help - example: taking swaddles with a “familiar smell”

3. Naps
As exciting as the Christmas season is, you need to stick to your routine when it comes to things like naps. Obviously, you need to be a bit flexible if youre out and about, but if you can try & keep naps to the regular times.

4. Quality box of Christmas treats.
It's lovely to have a treat at Christmas, but try not to let little people overdo it.

5. It's just a day!
If it all goes wrong, it's OK, it's just one day.
Don't put the pressure on yourself to create the “perfect Christmas” You do you.

This time of year can be particularly tiring for everyone but especially Mums

Organising the “frivolity” of December and keeping up the pretence of “everythings fine” when really you just want to lie down binge anything on Netflix with a mountain of gin and chocolate and just be left alone for a full 30 minutes!!

Its Ok to be tired.
To say things aren't good
To ask for help
And to take a break.

This is your reminder that it's OK to not be OK.

Well, it's getting to that time again, time for all Mums to increase their motherload by 80% ( as if we didn't have enough to do!) 😭

But the question is, do you go in for all the extra crap Christmas brings with it?
You know them..

🤶🏼Christmas Eve boxes,
🤶🏼Matching family pyjamas
🤶🏼Front door displays
🤶🏼Home-made advent calendars
🤶🏼Family photo Christmas cards
and the most evil of all time-sucking activities at this busiest time of the year…

🤶🏼Elf on the Shelf?

We would love to hear your thoughts on any of these and whether youre an all-in or more I just can't be arsed?
Are you an Elf on the shelfer?
