In celebration of Pride month, at the Boathouse next week, there are screenings of two beautiful q***r films, that also happened to be proudly filmed in the borough!

Wednesday 26th June 6.30pm Special preview screening of Unicorns (15):

The story of a q***r South Asian nightclub performer living a double life, and a young, single father who works as a mechanic. When they meet, a search for identity is sparked.

This is a special preview screening (the film is publicly launched in cinemas on 5th July), and will be followed by a Question & Answer session with Director Sally el Hosaini ( The Swimmers, My Brother the Devil) and writer/Director James Krishna Floyd

Thursday 27th June 7.15pm screening of Silver Haze (15):

Fifteen years after she got burnt when the pub where she slept as a child caught fire, Franky (23) seeks revenge because she still hasn't found any answers.

Sacha Polak's captivating and intimately crafted drama delivers a powerful and emotionally charged depiction of working-class life in Britain.
The film is based on a true story from the borough, and the screening will be followed by a Question & Answer session with lead actor Vicky Knight (Dirty God)

🎥 Calling all Mentors! Could you support a new entrant to the film industry?📽️

Film London Connect is a volunteer led Mentoring programme designed specifically for Equal Access Network (EAN) members. The mentoring programme’s focus is on new and early film industry entrants, aged 18-24 and who aim to prioritise support for those from traditionally underrepresented groups.

Film London are now seeking a new cohort of Mentors. All levels of experience are welcomed and from all aspects of the industry but we're very keen to hear from mentors working in below the line roles. Film London will aim to match you with a mentee with similar interests, sector and aspirational role goals.

Modern Architecture (post 1950). The Adult College of Barking is a 4-storey building with a selection of different shoot spaces for filming, off Ripple Road in Barking. This location features: production office space, large ground floor reception, open plan offices, cafe, classrooms, corridors, lift. Only a 7-minute walk from Barking Underground Station, and with unit bases available close-by, The Adult College of Barking is an exceptionally film friendly location, with weekday and weekend filming available.

Film Enterprise Competition – we asked schools across the borough to present a pitch for making a short film. After many weeks of working with on their self led projects, pupils wowed a panel of industry judges with their ideas and ambition, at an inspiring pitch event in Barking. 🎤

We’ve spent the last few weeks working with a professional film crew and the amazing competition winners from Marsh Green Primary and Dagenham Park, to bring their vision to life, ready to be screened at a celebratory event at the Vue Cinema in Dagenham in June. We are so excited to see the finished product and celebrate the incredible talent, creativity and vision of the young people (and teachers!) of the borough. 📽️

⭐ 3 x PAID S.E.T. TRAINEE ROLES - CLOSING DATE 21st MAY at 12PM
(NOON)!⭐

S.E.T provides those who secure a place on the programme with the opportunity to complete work experience in a specific department on set of a scripted TV drama production based in Barking and Dagenham.

Programme participants will also have training ahead of their placement on all things set-etiquette and industry awareness.

Applications are now open and the deadline is 12pm on Tuesday 21st May 2024. We appreciate this is a quick turnaround but don't worry, there will be an opening of applications for the second cohort sooner than you think!

These are all paid roles, with the first three S.E.T. work experience placements starting in Sound, Assistant Directing & working in Production. Attached are descriptions and key dates.

One of the boroughs most talented self-starters & Make it Here Alumni's, Ilie Gorea, who has acted as a lead Location Marshall on the most recent Royal Visit to the Wharf Studios, who won best short film at the Barking and Dagenham College Skills show & who has now been accepted into Ravensbourne University, alongside a long list of major production credits, has had an article written on his time spent in the borough and how the College and the Make It Here programme helped him flourish and assist in his prestigious creative endeavors. RED EYE, premiering on ITV X on the 21st April at 9pm, stars Jing Lusi, Richard Armitage, Lesley Sharp & Jemma Moore. Sequences in the series were filmed in the local borough at our location, The Science Park.

Eastbrookend Country Park and Nature Reserve is an amazing 84-hectare park filled with nature trails, horse grazed meadows, marshlands, ponds and woodlands that boasts free car parking and easy access by car via the A12, A13 & A406. This is an incredibly film friendly location with evening and weekend filming available as well as disabled access. Could this beautiful landscape be perfect for your next film or TV show?

New Location Alert📍

A nine storey tower block in Barking, dating back to the 1990s, is now temporarily available. It has endless areas to film in such as Corridors, stairwells, empty flats and ominous pathways. Great location for multiple types of scenes. Can be used for weekday, evening shoots as well as weekends and is only 5 minutes from Barking Station and an easy car drive from the A13.

We wrapped on Marching Powder, starring Danny Dyer, which was based and filmed in and around Barking and Dagenham. Our talented local MAKE IT HERE trainees and youngsters helped out on set. They were recruited and employed as location marshals/runners for various scenes across the borough.

The Science Park is a diverse, multi-use space perfect for both interior and exterior shooting. From the exposed brickwork, derelict basements, all the way to the expansive light tunnels and office space, this location can be used for photography and is versatile for any kind of filming. They also host on site the new Eastbrook Studios which will be open in the summer. Only a 2-Minute walk from Dagenham East Station and boasting ease for all kinds of accessibility needs, this location could be perfect for you.

The Switch is a 3-Storey, exposed brick derelict building with large windows, textured walls, with an original staircase to all floors and long corridors. There is also access to the second floor roof providing brilliant access for stunt work. Closely linked with the major transport lines this film friendly location is perfect for weekday/weekend filming and a fantastic location for night shoots.

BEC 360 is a business enterprise center sited right in the heart of Barking. Only two minutes walk from Barking Train Station, this versatile space can be used for filming and photography and features include a quirky ground floor communal workspace, a kitchen and catering area with beautiful natural light, a reception area and breakout room spaces. We had a wonderful evening at our Local Production Services and Facilities event last night organised by the BEC. Team Film Barking and Dagenham all presented alongside the supreme Supervising Location Manger Vinnie Jassal and Els Hassani of Els Action Vehicles to discuss the emerging east London Film & TV’s sector and support that will be available to connect local businesses to the industry.

In readiness for the launch of our new website next month, we have linked a supplier form for businesses to apply to be listed on our local supplier page. For those businesses that don’t quite meet the criteria, don’t forget you are still able to register on the Barking and Dagenham Business Directory. Our form is linked in the bio and below.
