From the voices of ramblers and campaigners to the songs and poetry inspired by past and current struggles, “Behold Ye Ramblers” is a new play about The Clarion newspaper and the organisations formed by its readership, including the famous rambling clubs, like Sheffield's Clarion Ramblers, the Clarion Cyclists and Clarion Vans. These early Edwardian pioneers promoted healthy outdoor pursuits, organising expeditions across open moors and mountains whilst campaigning for the right to roam, bringing them into conflict with landowners’ hunting and shooting activities and laws that prioritised private property over the wellbeing of others.

In a recent House of Lords debate about the withering British arts scene Lord (Melvin) Bragg pointed out that the value of the arts to the British economy was roughly equivalent to that the ærospace industry, yet the latter receives 400 times the level of taxpayer subsidy than the supposedly ‘unproductive’ area of music/film/tv production, whose actual contribution to GDP is given below. (It has declined since Brexit.)

In consequence Cherubim has created a https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/656558 stating Fund music at state schools to the amount spent by private schools
We believe that the enrichment an experience of music-making offers is disproportionately valuable in terms of stimulating the imagination and creativity of students in other areas. Studies have found that schools with good quality music often have higher academic outcomes in other fields.
Many private schools advertise the value of music for the 7% of children who attend them. We believe the other 93% of school-children deserve the same benefits. We believe the Government pays lip service to the value of music (£6.7bn to the UK economy in 2023, with exports of £4bn) but fails to back words with actions. We believe the music teaching skills needed for the next generation are in danger of being lost, and that this would be a catastrophe for Britain's standing in the world, as well as for the welfare and wellbeing of its citizens.

When we reach 10,000 signatures we will be due a Govt response. If we reach 100,000 signatures in 6 months—we are deploying two of our staff to focus on achieving this—the issue will be debated in the Commons. Nobody supposes these results will change anything by themselves, but the more we can get this vital subject into the public domain the more chance there is of pressure driving it up the political agenda – especially if the results arrive in time to inform a different approach by a new government.

Wonderful concert of Louis Couperin and Johann Sebastian Bach's music on harpsichord. Here the quote of an audience member: "It was all of a piece: the programme of music was perfectly chosen and beautiful, Jack González-Harding was at his very best, at one with his instrument and with his heart and the atmosphere in the audience was wonderful, palpable. This particular concert could not have happened in any other venue" The recording of this Musical Offering concert is available here: https://watch.eventive.org/sandsmusic/play/6572fd6fa5165500397fcce4
