The trailers don't show how awesome this film is! And all credit to them, this film isn't just a horror, it isn't just a thriller or a mystery but it’s also a comedy!!
When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.
Now plot-wise, it sets up so dark and creepy but has moments of light times of comical relief but also times of sheer fear.
The film takes an unusual style as it is told in 5 parts….well 5 perspectives of each character and how their day unfolds…it gets its hooks in deep!
One scene really stuck with me that I thought was shot so well. It happens twice- we follow Justine( Julie Garner) as she walks through a store to buy liquor, it is shot so tight that you feel claustrophobic yet it’s an open-lit store. You really get the feeling of something is watching or following, in the second time the latter actually happens.
The cast is great! Standout is Aunt Gladys portrayed by Amy Madigan who is brilliant and so off the cuff and scary but I won't spoil anything but I will say it has got some twists in store!
Josh Brolin hammers the real drama home by never giving up on finding his missing son, his story alone is brilliant and hits hard.
The gore and violence is so raw and grotesque, it doesn't shy away from shocking you in so many scenes. There are some great scares too but it all is followed with a little levity, to say I laughed a little would be an understatement there is comedy in some parts and it works so well.
Overall I loved this! Another one to add to the collection, it’s a well-made movie with good twists and solid cast that deserves to be seen in cinemas.
