Proud smiles hide quivering bottom lips as we bid farewell to Alex who recently completed a work experience placement with us.

In true work-ex cliché style, he provided some golden moments. These included, but were not limited to:

- Failing a human verification test
- Being “grossly outsmarted by a coffee machine” (his words)
- Half-jokingly trying to invoice us for his time. On his own work experience. This was our favourite.

A great work ethic and a quick sense of humour meant he fit right in with us, and he’ll add genuine value to any organisation he works for in the future. He even embraced the more challenging tasks, like making a piece of coal ‘look artistic and cool’.

Alex, we demand you go forth and conquer life, because you have the ability and personality to make it happen whenever you’re ready to.

Now, we’re going to go and gaze through a rainy window and listen to Coldplay to emphasise our sadness at your departure.

Good luck, grasshopper! 🫶

We enjoyed supporting one of our clients today to cover their attendance at the UK Careers Fair event at Anfield, home of Liverpool FC.

An event with some big names attending, it was fascinating to see the varying approaches to presentation. Kudos to the guys with the giant Connect 4 on their stand though - love that!

Today is Time to Talk Day; an initiative from Mind designed to provide people with resources and ideas to help positive mental health conversations become part of everyone’s daily routine.

Low mental health affects so many, and even in 2023 a needless stigma still exists around it's discussion, but it’s vital people feel they can talk openly about it.

Even for those who aren’t quite ready to talk freely, it can make all the difference just knowing that someone is ready to listen to it without judgement when they are.

We’d love to say no one will ever suffer under a dark cloud, but when they do it can have a huge positive impact just knowing that they don’t have to hide it.

If we make time in our day to discuss mental health we can start to rid the stigmas of sharing and replace it with a culture of comfort. Our inbox will always be open for anyone who feels they need to talk.

We've rounded off our week with some remote working from the office of one of our newer clients.

It's always good to get in and meet the people behind the day-to-day delivery of a business, and it's equally fantastic to see a company providing such a well thought out and comfort-driven space for their talent.

Today was our first visit to this particular site, though it won't be the last!

We often work remotely and today we are at one of the more regular spots - Profolk in Stockport.

A fantastic, productive space for anyone to come in, grab a hotdesk and get on with their day.

If you ever need to work remotely in this area you can do a lot worse than their good atmosphere, good people and the odd good cuppa thrown in. Everyone wins!

We were recently presented with an opportunity to work on a 6-week campaign for a large business with a great opportunity off the back of it. It led to the most intense period of work the business has experienced, but we're happy to say that the work was a success.

With the initial project now complete, we are very much looking forward to enjoying the bank holiday weekend with our friends and families.

Work successes are all well and good, but nothing can replace the moments you'll miss if you lose yourself in that 'mode'. Remember to take the time and find the balance.

A few final tasks completed on the way back up north after a fantastic two days in the capital supporting the teams at CBD One and Naked Barista on their stand during The London Coffee Festival.

As always the work has been more like fun and as is usually the case, we’ve met some fantastic people and seen some interesting things along the way.

It was brilliant to meet and connect with so many new businesses and individuals, too.

Online safety and abuse has been a hot topic for years, with an increasing amount of scrutiny being placed on both.

A recent survey of 6,000 10-18 year olds found that almost 50% of them experienced some form of cyber bullying or online abuse between June and August 2020.

We have also seen various stories of public or popular figures receiving deplorable abuse online. In fact, there’s every chance that if you use even one of the big social media platforms, you’ll have actually seen it happening first hand.

It’s a topic which has become the focus for a lot of people, and rightly so. It’s refreshing then to see action being taken by Instagram to try and act against it and help improve people’s online experiences.

They have recently introduced new tools for this very purpose; ‘Hidden words’ and ‘Limits’, which are designed work during spikes in profile attention.

When activated, ‘Hidden Words’ will automatically filter words, phrases and emojis which are deemed to be offensive. It’s primary focus is on DM requests as this is, more often than not, where people receive offensive or abusive content.

The second newly-introduced Instagram tool is ‘Limits’. This works by automatically hiding comments and DM requests from people who don’t follow that particular account, or who followed recently.

It is hoped that by doing this, the chances of someone following and subsequently being able to leave unsavoury comments and messages, or just attempting to do so without following will be eliminated.

Whether or not this works entirely and completely changes a person’s experience of using the platform remains to be seen as sadly, negativity has a way of finding a way through sometimes.

It is really good, however, to see the company taking positive steps to protect people online from what can seem a really dark part of the internet for people at times, whether they are the ones on the receiving end or not.
