Town sure is different for us locals at the moment!

Normally at this time of year the town centre would be swarming with tourists and visitors from all over.

Whilst the circumstances are less than ideal, it’s so interesting to experience Stratford as a sleepy little town!

Luckily it also gives us an opportunity to appreciate the buildings we otherwise wouldn’t stop to look at, what a treat to live in such a pretty place! @ Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

The Other Place

RSC’s 200 seat theatre was opened in its current form in 2016 while the RSC and Swan theatres were being redeveloped.

However, this little building has existed in many forms! It originally was bought by the RSC in 1974, and became the home of the company’s small-scale and experimental work. It was replaced in 1991 with a more modern building, and has since had a few more makeovers.

Hall’s Croft

This building is one of Stratford’s lesser known Shakespeare-related buildings (comparatively 😅).

It was the home of Shakespeare’s daughter Susanna, and her husband John Hall. John Hall worked as a physician who preferred natural remedies deriving from plants, herbs, and animal extracts over astrology or blood-letting, which were popular at the time.

The main part of the building has been around since 1613, and the house has been open to the public since 1951!

Here’s a shot of Anne Hathaway’s house, who married Shakespeare in 1582. Her beautiful house is an incredibly popular tourist spot, and especially pretty in the spring!

Happy Birthday to !

These are some photos we took a year ago when they first opened, and what a year they’ve had!

If you haven’t visited The Farm, they are an amazing traditional farm shop with a modern touch. Locally sourced produce, local vendors and an incredible cafe that uses all their own produce makes this place a real destination.

They’ve just changed things up a bit to allow customers to go in and get their essentials whilst social distancing, and they’re also offering delivery on produce boxes for those who can’t get out!

Church of the Holy Trinity

This church, sometimes known as ‘Shakespeare’s Church’ is Stratford’s oldest building, dating back to 1210! It is one of England’s most visited churches, probably because it’s where Shakespeare was baptised and buried.

Shakespeare’s grave has never been exhumed, or moved to Westminster Abbey, thanks to his epitaph above the grave
‘Good friend for Jesus sake forebear,
To dig the dust enclosed here.

And cursed be he that moves my bones’
