I loved my visit to which unearthed treasures including early nature prints, corn dollies and this concrete beehive - a prototype from the 1950s when wood was in short supply and bees were desperately needed to pollinate crops for a hungry population

Here is is in all its glory Marchants Hardy Plants If it were a person I'd imagine it in the corner of a pub the morning after the night before in a big fluffy coat and smudged lipstick, smoking a fag. A troupe of murielae dancing in a gravel bed at Denmans Garden which started to take on its current form when former owner Joyce Robinson, then aged 73, hopped on a tractor and started digging two dry riverbeds. Renowned garden designer John Brookes MBE (1933-2018) - credited with inventing the modern garden - later gardened here making this a fascinating fusion of creative planting combinations and design flair.
