We’re always told to eat our greens and avoid sugary snacks.
But turning down a moist slice of chocolate cake after a long day is easier said than done.
Well, many people may find healthy food choices a LOT easier to stick to following a huge European study.
In the study, a team of European scientists gave 612 people a list of key foods to eat and inflammatory foods to avoid.
The scientists then tracked their health markers for a year.
At the end, the scientists were STUNNED to discover the small diet changes they’d recommended led to:
✔ A huge reduction in inflammatory markers
✔ Improved memory and brain function
✔ Slowed signs of physical aging, such as walk speed and hand grip strength
✔ Reduced bone loss for stronger, more flexible joints
✔ Improved blood pressure and healthier arteries
✔ Sustainable weight loss
✔ Lower risk of erratic blood sugar, low moods and severe ill health
It was like the scientists had found a magic pill to robust good health and slowing down the aging clock!
Why had making simple food changes improved the participants’ health so much?
Due to the way these foods had healed and strengthened their guts.
Because as more and more health experts are now realizing…
The gut is the CORE of all health in the body.
It’s the engine room for absorbing nutrients… eliminating toxins… and producing all sorts of hormones and chemicals we need to be healthy.

I’m no saint.

Sometimes I get cravings for sugar so bad I have to wolf down a chocolate bar just so I can focus on work.

But after reading a study on what sugar does to the brain, this is one guilty pleasure I may have to lose.

Scientists have long wondered why people’s memories are getting so bad.

Why do so many people struggle with brain fog… following conversations… or being able to go shopping without a list?

And now a team from Macquairie University in Sydney has found out why.

The scientists split 110 volunteers in their early 20s who generally ate a good diet into two groups.

One group continued eating their healthy diet, while the other ate a diet high in waffles and fast food.

The scientists were SHOCKED to discover that within a week the group eating sugar loaded processed food had:

X Worse memory
X Impaired brain function
X More cravings for sugary foods

Why did this happen?

The scientists found that too much sugar and junk food causes the area of the brain that controls memory and decision making, the hippocampus, to get inflamed.

“After a week on a western-style diet, palatable food such as snacks and chocolate becomes more desirable when you are full,” said Richard Stevenson, a professor of psychology at Macquarie University in Sydney. “which in turn generates more damage to the hippocampus and a vicious cycle of overeating.”

3 Sugar Reducing Hacks

The good news is that the brain damage from sugary junk foods can be reversed.

But ONLY if you’re able drastically reduce sugar intake and adopt a healthier diet instead.

Now, I know this is a heck of a lot easier said than done. And it takes time to switch the taste buds to craving healthy foods.

So in the short-term, try these sugar reducing HACKS instead:

Lower stress levels - Sugar cravings are often triggered by stress. So go for a walk, do some light exercise or mediation instead.

Replace with natural sweetener - You can trick your brain into thinking you’re feeding the body with sugar with some healthier alternatives like blueberries, raw honey, blackstrap Molasses or real maple syrup.

Eat more natural sugars - Fruits are loaded with sugar in their natural form. And as long as you eat them in their whole form (i.e. not juice) the fibre will help slow down how fast they’re released into the bloodstream

Hopefully, with these 3 hacks I can start losing my own cravings for afternoon chocolate treats… and protect my memories at the same time.
