Last week, we had the lovely opportunity to attend the Manchester Film Festival, watch our short film on the big screen, and engage in a Q&A where spoke about the film deriving from an NIHR funded academic study, and how it's currently being used in a toolkit. Our film, Kiran, explores the personal, family, and systematic challenges of caring for a loved one with dementia.

What a moment for BlueBell Films!
Thank you to Royal Television Society Midlands for an award, 2nd year in a row! It was a beautiful night. The quality of all the work and the buzz amongst the guests is a testament to an exciting time for the Midlands. We're proud to be a part of Createcentraluk who are a driving force in this evolution.
On stage was writer/director Bhulla Beghal, academic part of the research team Dr. Karan Jutlla and lead actor Ambika Sharma
KIRAN is a short film about a woman facing systematic, family and personal challenges when her life is put on hold so she can care for her mother who has dementia. This academic project started a long time before there was a film and is making real-world positive impacts.
Thank you to the ADAPT team, Richard Cheston, Sahdia Parveen, Dr Emily Dodd, Dr. Karan Jutlla , David Truswell, UWE Bristol, University of Wolverhampton, University of Bradford NIHR for trusting the BlueBell team to carefully represent the experiences that many, many people go through.

Incredible news – BlueBell Films has been nominated for 6 Royal Television Society Midland Awards!
The original premise of BlueBell Films was to bring filmmakers to communication briefs. Each of these 3 client commissioned films have been making a continuous impact in their uses and now to see them be recognised in high regard by industry peers is proof of concept.

Ambika has been nominated for her performance in our film, Kiran, at ! 😃
Her portrayal of a daughter struggling with services, family and herself when caring for her mother with dementia is astonishing. The 2-minute uncut scene of her breakdown is one of the most powerful moments we've ever shot.

In the studio at BBC Radio Cornwall last week to talk about the ADAPT study and our film, Kiran. The ADAPT Study is adapting the dementia pathway for South Asian families and we produced a narrative short film offering an insight into caring for a loved one with dementia.

A special free Industry Event will take place at MAC Birmingham connecting new film makers with skilled people from the film industry with a focus on digital storytelling.
Director, Bhulla Beghal, is on the panel alongside key industry individuals.
This Industry event will bring together new filmmakers and aspiring creatives with skilled people and established organisations working in film, television and digital storytelling. It will act as an opportunity for both discussion, advice seeking and networking, with the aim of giving insight into the opportunities available to young creatives, alternative routes to getting a foot in the door and the future of digital storytelling.
The event will inspire the new generation of digital storytellers, connect them with established organisations, individuals and local opportunities, and help them make their next steps on their digital storytelling journeys.
This event is organised in collaboration with Createcentraluk

We were thrilled to capture the premier of THE ISLAND, a film by Amsterdam’s contemporary arts venue
Created in partnership with THE ISLAND is a social commentary film and exciting online social experiment. It brings together a diverse group of citizens from Coventry to democratically create a shared home on an island under various circumstances.
The film was premiered at Assembly Festival Garden, Coventry City of Culture and sparks social discussion including What rules do we need to ensure peace and tranquility? At what price can prosperity be maintained? When and why is solidarity needed?

We were proud to continue our creative collaboration with Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire County Council Public Health exploring mental health in the South Asian community.
We visited the beautiful location of The Stratford Park Hotel & Golf Club to conduct a series of interviews with three people who shared their powerful stories of depression, identity and bereavement.
We’re still working on postproduction but with Christmas on the horizon, this time of year can be really challenging and it’s important for people to know they’re not alone and they can ask for help.

We were thrilled to welcome the super talented Lorna Nickson Brown a talented writer/director/producer who produced & directed the Canal & River Trust films that Bhulla was cinematographer/editor on.
Welcoming Lorna to the studio to collaborate on the film edits was exactly what we wanted the studio to be when we first moved in - a hive of amazing creativity!

There’s just one month to go until this years Royal Television Society Midland Awards!!
We’ve been shortlisted in five different categories for our Advance Care Planning film with and can’t wait to celebrate these nominations on 21st November!
We are incredibly proud to showcase HEALING, a powerful piece of work brought to life through visual poetry.
This evocative piece was a creative collaboration of filmmaking, poetry, music, performance and artistic minds, brought together by Bluebell Films.
Developed for Warwickshire County Council, Warwickshire County Council Public Health, Warwick Innovation District, Director Bhulla Beghal crafted HEALING in response to exploring and positively impacting mental health in the South Asian community.
We collaborated with the talented wordsmith Jaspreet Kaur Behind the Netra, director of photography Gary Tanner musician Dalbir Singh Rattan Tablajedi and academic/performing artist Dr Karan Jutlla Dr. Karan Jutlla.

We loved bringing this project to life and we were honoured the film was released for World Mental Health Day last week.

Now in our second year, it’s crazy to think we’ve managed to trump the four nominations we achieved in our first 12 months in business! But we have, and we are so proud!
Big thanks go to Compton Care and University of Wolverhampton and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (who were involved in this project) for their trust in us to deliver a successful piece of work, on a topic that is often hard to engage people with.

We are proud to announce that Bhulla has been invited to chair a panel of four British Asian filmmakers for the British Asian Short Film event as part of the Birmingham Indian Film Festival Birmingham Indian Film Festival
Birmingham Indian Film Festival is a showcase of exciting and diverse emerging British Asian filmmakers that puts a spotlight on British Asian talent.
Taking place at Midlands Arts Centre - MAC this Saturday 18th September at 2.30pm, the screening will be followed by a discussion with local filmmakers Paven Virk, Cassiah Joski-Jethi, Ray Grewal, Manjeet Gill and of course Bluebell Film’s Bhulla Beghal who will be representing Createcentraluk

Rory heads up Saldo Ltd providers of evidence-based mental health and wellbeing training. We were lucky enough to meet him through the Creative Futures incubator in Leamington Spa run by Warwick Enterprise and we’re really proud of the creative collaboration we have.
As you can tell from this photo, Rory is an absolute natural in front of the camera and was one of the reasons we got into live streaming!

Five Tips for Communicating with Deaf People
We are honoured to share this informative video featuring Bhulla’s wonderful mom Mal in honour of Deaf Awareness Week.
Mal has been deaf since the age of two and has lived her entire life lip-reading and signing to communicate. With the help of Bhulla and his sister, Mal wanted to share some useful tips to help hearing people communicate more clearly with the deaf community.
Eyes, lip-reading, hearing, expression and hands all play a big part in communicating effectively and Mal explains this perfectly in the video.
