We have just finished an audio studio for GLOWMADE games over in Guildford.
Our good friend Chris Allen worked his magic with all things Tec.
GLOWMADE kindly added the following words :

‘We asked Nick to build an audio room for our games studio and the end product is incredible!
The quietness is amazing and so much better than what we hoped for, we don’t even need a separate sound booth we can simply record directly in there. Despite being a small studio, it has such a professional yet fun look. Nick and his team were great to work with and we enjoyed having them onsite.
They were very conscious to minimise the disruption to our employees and had a can-do attitude. It may be a cliche but Nick went over and above, often taking on things that were outside his remit.

The steel shell for the roof is now being fitted on our project for the “Leeds Studio Cooperative”
It will soon be water tight ready for the next stage on this exciting project delivering quality recording studios in the heart of Leeds.

Audio Schemes had the pleasure of building a garden studio for Dave Emery, one of the world’s leading Dolby Atmos engineers and the man behind albums for Ed Sheeran, Miley Cyrus, Lewis Capaldi, U2, Foo Fighters and many more.

Dave’s new Dolby Certified studio allows him to work unrestricted without having to worry about sound bleeding in and just as importantly sound bleeding out.

Dave wasted no time working in the new studio with his first mix being the currant album for Liam Gallagher and John Squire.

Bad weather can’t stop work or progress, it’s wet and miserable but we carry on regardless!! Another garden studio in north London which comes under permitted development, but this time with a pitched roof design.
This particular studio will be a multi purpose studio with plenty of natural light built in.
Our client needs to be able to use his drums 24/7 if need be, so with this in mind we have gone for a higher attenuation specification than our normal mixing studios design.
We have just finished a fantastic ATMOS garden studio in London with pictures to follow over the next couple of weeks so keep checking in to view more of this build and others as they move forward.

Roof, wall cladding and internal mezzanine is now removed and ready for the next stage.

Over the next few weeks we will be fitting a new roof and cladding with substantial soundproofing built into the shell. The new floor will be a floated concrete slab with expansion joints cut between each studio for mechanical isolation and the concrete sat on a thermal acoustic isolation pad.

It’s all starting to take shape now !

Happy new year to all our followers!

We have so many projects starting and finishing its hard to keep up!

This particular build was completed in early December for an audio professional in the gaming industry. The studio is a fully isolated 7.1.4 Atmos studio build within permitted planning regulations. Our trade mark acoustic stretch fabric systems are fitted to the ceilings and walls including substantial bass trapping to produce a fantastic sounding space. The outside is finished in Siberian Larch cladding.

Room Sonics were responsible for designing and commissioning a world-class Atmos system into the studio and included 12 channels of PMC speakers, a Trinnov D-Mon processor and Mergin Horus interface solution meeting the high specification of the build.

We are quickly getting booked up for the first quater of the year, but there are a few spots left for any audio professional willing to make the jump and commit to a home studio.

When clients ask why full acoustic stretch fabric garden studios are more expensive than simple panel’s on the wall, then this is it PREPARATION is key, fitting all the supports behind the fabric for the speakers/sockets/lights is a long drawn out process not to mention the fitting of the track which takes time to make sure all angles are fully aligned. This is a soon to be completed ATMOS studio in London. The studio will be going for Dolby certification with a completion date of December/January once testing is complete. We have multiple studios nearing completion so definitely watch this space.

A complete make over for one of our favourite clients! Pitstop productions fantastic facility over in Croydon with a revamped Motion Capture studio. We installed our acoustic stretch fabric systems to create a dead space for Josh and his talented team which also looks fantastic. We have finally started our large multi studio build for the LEEDS STUDIO COOP.

The warehouse will pretty much be taken down bar the brickwork including removing asbestos roofing/ cladding and replacing it with our unique soundproof linings.

We are installing a substantial mezzanine floor which will incorporate our acoustic design to better isolate the ground floor recording studios and the mixing studios above.

If you want to follow the build keep watching as in the upcoming months we will transform this derelict warehouse into a multi use studio complex.

Audio Schemes will work around the clock if needed! A large video wall built for our good friends Altered Images LTD over in Windsor.

A long weekend was all it took! The structural wall measures 20 meters in length, ready to take on the video wall when it arrives in the upcoming weeks.

We are keeping busy with another home studio coming along nicely.

This particular build in the southwest is a basement surround sound studio which will be upgraded to ATMOS further down the line.

The ceiling height wasn’t great so the basement floor as been lowered by 1.5m to give a finished internal height of 2.5m.

If your garden isn’t big enough for one of our studios then basements make a good alternative.

It gets real for the client when they see the concrete base being laid!

The ground on this one was a little unstable so we have gone for a strong concrete mix and re-bar to be on the safe side with a 200mm concrete base. This particular build will include a utility room hence the length of 8m.

The garden runs down a fair bit from the house so it gets a little complicated with maximum height measurements under permitted planning regulations.

A good tule of thumb is set your height from the first course of brick on your house and you won’t go far wrong.

We will let the concrete cure for about a week then we can start the actual build.

This is how it all starts!

Site preparation.. day 1 of our latest garden studio builds consists of taking down this delapitated garage, which in 4 weeks time will be replaced by one of our high specification garden studios.

As anybody who is following our work will know, they really are no different from your industry standard west end studios.

We are getting a steady stream of industry professionals who are taking the decision to work from home. A single one of cost then the studio is rent free for life!

This will be another room in a room build with acoustic stretch fabric linings/ acoustic ventilation and quiet AC.

Our latest garden studio is now up and running and earning its keep!

The isolation on this build had to be extremely high which as always on our higher end builds included a “room in a room”.

We are still waiting for the ceiling speakers to be installed but you can see the finished product regardless. There are 3 speakers behind the acoustically transparent front wall. This particular studio has full fabric linings including the ceiling and the VO booth. There is a toilet and small kitchen included which is totally independent from our clients house.

Day 8 on our TV studio build as you can see we do not hang about!

We have already installed the floating floor/ fitted mass loaded acoustically dampened interior walls.

On the outside of the studio we are fitting a neat little system to mechanically isolate the interior of the room from the outside lining of the studio. This will let the single framed build act like a “room in a room”. not as good but a good second best when tight on space and budget.

We maximise the builds sound isolating potential with a 100mm sound deadening slab in the void, heavy but not ridged enough to cause an acoustic short through the structure.

The ceiling joists are bespoke and designed by our structural engineer to be lightweight (under 80kg each) but extremely strong. Although they are 6.5m in span they will comfortably support all the soundproofing and a lighting grid live/dead load of 300kg/m2 with another 100kg of redundancy to future proof it for extra lights/ drapes etc.

Remember we design, build and underwrite all our builds taking total responsibility for its success including HVAC requirements.

If you have been following us for a while you will know we not only build home studios but we are well known for building large commercial broadcast studios.

This is week one of a month long broadcast build for a football team in the south. Once the club have had their opening day and are broadcasting from the studio we can then name the football team in question. For now keep checking back to see updates on our build which will show prospective clients our wide range of work.

The other big consideration on this build is the 29,000 home fans on the other side of the wall in the background, so it will definitely test our soundproofing learning curve!

Most of our home studio posts tend to be mixing studios but this one is a little different.

A large garden studio for a professional string quartet is unique even by our standards!

Acoustically we allowed for some absorption but have gone for a lot of diffusion helped by the ceiling and walls being slightly angled to create a fantastic sounding live studio.

This particular build had full planning consent with one of the conditions being the colour of the cladding had to match the house in appearance and because of it’s size, it had to have non-combustible cladding.

The sound isolation on this build is designed so the studio can be used even in the twilight hours without disturbing the neighbours.

It’s completely self-contained from the house with a bathroom and office included.

Amazing what you can do with a garage!

As you may have seen in an earlier post, we have turned this particular garage into a professional studio.

Producer, Rob Kirwan’s first project in his new studio was Spotify’s latest number 1 hit ‘Daylight’ by David Kushner.

If proof is needed that any space can be converted into a studio then this is it! We can convert any redundant spaces such as basements, lofts, garages and new garden studios.

Dusty old loft spaces can be converted into professional studios in no time!

This build is in the south east and is nearly complete. Lofts generally need planning permission but don’t let that put you off as you can see it is well worth the effort.

Our client wanted bespoke diffused bass traps which have worked well with the acoustic dampening we introduced to the ceiling rakes.

A combination of different densities of rockwool covered with our acoustic stretch fabric system has worked wonders with the acoustics.

Ducted HVAC fitted in the garage below has kept clutter to a minimum which is important when space is at a premium.

When your deciding where to build your home studio and your budget is tight then a garage studio is a more cost effective option than a garden studio.

When you build a garden studio and it’s near a neighbours fence then the cladding needs to be fire rated which can push the costs up and take funds from the actual studio build.

Garages already have the outer shell so it makes a big difference in the cost, meaning you get more scope internally.

This build is for the renowned record producer and engineer Rob Kirwan.

Rob has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including , , and just to name a few.

One of the hardest creative space’s to soundproof are drum and bass studios built in the actual home.

When building Danny Byrds home studio the biggest issue was low frequency break out to the bedroom above.

Danny is in his studio all hours of the day due to his busy schedule so the soundproofing needed to earn its keep meaning he can work without disturbing his family anytime day or night.

I don’t give many tricks away free but I’ll share this one !

Coded LEAD works wonders when laminated into 44mm fire doors.It makes sure the doors have the same Mass as the wall linings.Its a fantastic soundproofing product, dense and limp so perfect as a lining for doors.

Its always an area that will let you down if you don’t spend a little time and money especially with drum and bass studios.

As long as the acoustic seals are quality compression seals then you will have extremely high performing doors on a realistic budget.

Our latest garden studio in the midlands nearing completion.

This 7.1.4 ATMOS studio is now ready for speaker installation which on this build is being done by the clients contractor.

The opening in the front Audio wall is ready for the projector screen with the speakers sitting comfortably behind the acoustic stretch fabric wall.

Our client as gone for a light coloured fabric ceiling with a dark green fabric on the walls which works really well with the dark engineered wood floor.

This is another fully isolated studio. This is the only real way of building any garden studio for audio professionals expecting a commercial grade studio environment.

The luxury being no time limits, the studio is yours 24/7

Definitely the way forward for anybody making a living in the world of sound design.
