It’s funny how things turn out. Sometimes you just need to make small tweaks to your strategy to make a big difference in results. That’s what we have found lately…

Take my business, I decided to step up my outward facing business development work in January 2024.

I didn’t change much, but I did change the emphasis and where I directed my energy based on data from previous successes.

What’s happened now?

I have a flurry of new leads, bookings, connections, a new client and a heap more momentum.

Are your images in your digital ads up to scratch??
If not you are missing out on sales.

We worked on a client ads campaign for a large multinational brand that ran from summer through to autumn 2023.

The campaign strategy was really successful, driving signups to a mailing list and raising awareness of a new direct to consumer product offer. A new business stream for them 💴

The metrics and cost per acquisition were fantastic. Happy client ✅

One of the things that made our life easier as advertisers was the creative.

They’d invested in high quality images that:

1. Resonated with their audience
2. Were professionally shot, on brand and looked amazing
3. Showcased the product in use and were aspirational

Not every brand will be able to access images like this.
But our top tip is to INVEST in the best QUALITY images you possibly can.

Particularly if you have a premium product.

Online customers are discerning, if you don’t create the right impression they will buy from someone who does.

If you are paying to advertise, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate what you are putting out there? Starting with the creative 💥

Seems ridiculous, but you can create the best ads in the world but struggle to increase sales if the rest of your customer journey doesn’t match up to this high standard.

Think about

💡 Website conversion rate
💡 Customer Feedback scores
💡 Delivery time
💡 Packaging
💡 Price point
💡 Delivery cost
💡 Email marketing
💡 Offers
💡 Organic social media content
💡 Something else

✅ You MAY need to invest budget in ads to get more eyes on your product.

I’m ranting because I’m being bombarded with claims from other digital ads ‘experts’ that they can fix all of your paid social advertising problems in a flash for something like $37 dollars 🙄

They can teach you a ‘magic formula’ that’s been tested on 357 million customers 🙄

They have in the last 5 mins spent XYZ millions advertising on every platform 🙄

They have developed a tool that will essentially advertise for you and 10x your sales in the first week 🙄

You can buy their £97 course, join their membership or download their ‘game/changing pdf’ and your store will be magically transformed into the money making machine you always knew it could be 🙄

Really?

The truth is that it’s perfectly possible to grow your online business but it takes time, energy, strategy, know how and budget 🔥

There are lots of genuine ads professionals and business growth strategists that can help (like us) 💥

One $37 course isn’t going to do it because it’s too generic and won’t even scratch the surface for you.

Your business is unique and whilst there might be learnings from working with other brands, an off the shelf solution that works for everyone doesn’t exist.

There are some brands out there doing a great job with paid social ads!

And that means ads specialists like us working creatively behind the scenes to make it happen!

I bet we’ve all ended up buying things we’d never planned to after seeing products online. I know I have!

For me it’s always fitness products - accessories, clothing and definitely trainers!

A tale of social media success that the analytics won’t tell you 🥳

One of my longstanding customers is a business coach to CEOs that runs a membership program.

As you may imagine it’s a high ticket sell, with a lengthy customer journey and multiple touch points.

We use a variety of channels and the customer acquisition process has evolved over time. The biggest platform is LinkedIn where we post 6 days per week.

There are all kinds of barriers to sale but the biggest ones are time and budget.

Why am I sharing this?

Well, it’s for all those people who get disillusioned with posting on social media day in and day out without seeing any measurable success.

Recently, we have had at least 3 new members saying they had been reading the LinkedIn posts every day.

They could tell we were really busy, they loved the messaging and positivity and wanted to be involved.

None of these people had been liking every post or commenting. But they had clearly been paying attention and finally responded.

So, you never know who is watching, what they think or what they are looking for.

It pays to show up consistently on social media, nail your messaging and be proactive.

It still takes work to convert people but you can do that bit.

How many times should I be posting on social media per week before running ads?
How many followers do I need?

The answer is that there isn’t a magic number 🪄

BUT

Having an organic presence on your preferred social media channels is critical to success and business growth for brands who sell online.

1️⃣ New customers want to see that you are a credible brand, your customers love your products and that items are going to turn up on time and as described.

2️⃣ Your social media channels are a shop window to your brand.

You need to be able to share new and existing products with your followers and maximise repeat purchases through special offers or simply by staying front of mind.

If you are spending money on ads you want to do everything possible to encourage purchases ✔️

Social media is your opportunity to create a good impression 😁

If you fail to take it, you risk looking amateurish and you are handing your competitors a sale.

We regularly do audits on Facebook, Instagram and Google ads and this is the most obvious way that brands are wasting money. We aren’t talking pennies here either 😱

If you do not get your tech set-up right, the data that you collect from ads campaigns will be inaccurate.

Meaning that when you make decisions about how to optimise and where to scale, you are acting on incomplete or inaccurate data.

Paid social and search is data-driven. Measuring and tracking the right stuff is critical to success.

Don’t assume that your agency or ad buyer has done it right. Ask questions and challenge.

Large agency or freelancer for your digital needs?

One of my favourite things about working with clients is becoming an extension of their team.

The advantage of working with a freelancer or small business as opposed to a digital agency is the personal touch and consistency.

We become really invested in your business and it’s in our interests to get results - if our clients are winning than so are we.

There is a real variation in skills, experience and training within digital agencies and people move about a lot within the industry.

It may feel safer to choose an agency but the reality is that there are many generalists about who are picking up roles in specialist areas such as paid social and that’s not necessarily good for results.

If you want control over who represents your brand online then find someone who tailors their approach to you.

I’m getting into outsourcing in more ways than 1

Here’s a picture of someone who made it to the co-working space today for the first time in August 🙈

It’s a reminder for me that as a business owner you can’t do everything and I’ve had to prioritise.

This has meant working from home for the summer. No regrets, I’ve still got plenty done it just wasn’t what I’d planned.

Who else can relate?

August is the biggest juggle for working parents but truth be told, most of us are permanently juggling time, resources and our available energy ⚡️

Outsourcing features in my own plans for this year but I also run managed ads campaigns for others.

This was the intro to an email I received recently from a business owner who I didn’t know - a cold approach.

Turns out, she’s been following us for a while and a recent post had prompted her to make contact.

Also… she had been thinking of outsourcing her digital ads for a while after her results dropped off after iOS14 hit and she didn’t have time to work out how to fix things.

It just shows:

✨We will never fully understand who sees our content - you've got to be in it to win it

✨People don't have to interact with posts immediately

✨It pays to explain products or services regularly in language that your target audiences uses

✨Some people are not ready to use your services or buy from you but are on the lookout for trusted partners to use at a later date

✨If you are authentic in your style and content you will attract the right people

Happy Birthday to us 🥳

3 years ago in the middle of the lockdown situation on 1 June With Agency was incorporated.

I’ve always wanted to live by sea and run a business. Only one of those ambitions was possible at the time so the business was born.

I felt like I was taking action in a time when we were restricted in many other ways.

I’ll get to the sea though at some point. Watch this space… 🌊

Just a hunch…I’m guessing you didn’t start your business with the aim of spending ages creating ads on Facebook, Instagram, Google or any other platform 🤷‍♀️

So why then are you spending hours of time trying to work out how to do it?

We all know why, because you need new customers to grow and your own time is free…EXCEPT it’s not free is it?

If ads are not your superpower, we would question if creating and managing them is really the best use of your precious time 🕰️

And then there’s the stress, the wasted money and the still inconsistent sales 😱

Your new and existing customers are your passport to spreading the word about your business.

They’ll usually write reviews for free for you if your product and service are either excellent 😁 or really bad 🤦🏼‍♀️

You can help your brand stand out by differentiating yourself from the rest of the market.

Perhaps you have planet friendly packaging or a no quibble returns process. Do people know about this?

Can you incentivise customers to write the right review or record a Video testimonial with the promise of a discount or free delivery.

People want to shop online.

It’s convenient for them.

High street shops carry less physical stock these days so they don’t feel confident of availability.

But we have to provide optimised websites, great UX and solid social proof including User Generated Content.

💭 What’s the best social media platform to advertise on? 1️⃣🏆

I was asked this question recently at an event. I had so many questions In return!

The answer is that it can depend on a large number of factors.

Most importantly:

What type of business is it?

AND

What are your business goals?

Understanding who your customers are and their behaviour online is a good starting point.
