Don't make this amateur mistake!

If you judge a business or individual's success based on followers, you could be missing a lot of opportunities. I know producers and business owners making six figures who have less than 200 followers... The most successful person I've ever worked with in the music industry has more hits under his belt than I have socks, and he doesn't even f**k with social media. This is often the case with big players in the industry, as word of mouth and reputation is much more valuable than chasing likes on whatever platform is popular right now...

A funky package just arrived 😁

Fresh from the USA, I've just took delivery of this ElectroSpit Talkbox] talkbox. I've been talkboxing for over 10 years but the last couple of years I've had dental problems which has stopped me playing, which really bummed me out.

If you haven't seen this thing before it's a work of genius imo, and I can't wait to start talkboxing again. I've only had time for a quick go so far but my initial impression is this thing is awesome! I tried it with my existing talkbox patch through a microkorg xl and the result is so similar to my rocktron banshee without that hassle of the tube.

I am going to make a video on this when I've had more time to spend with it, but I'll be nerding out on this for the forseeable!

⚠ Wack beat alert ⚠

Working with mainly rnb artists I hear a lot of beats that people buy 'off the shelf' I. E beatstores.Whilst I have no problem with this it's very clear at the moment that the quality of some beats out there is questionable.

Actually to say it like it is, there some absolutely trash beats out there. Even worse, people are buying them! 🙈

And even worse still, some of these artists are really good!

I get that it can be hard to tell if a beat has technical issues etc. Especially if your a less experienced artist. These are some common issues I hear in the rnb genre...

This post is not meant to offend anyone I just hate to see people waste their money and more importantly time, especially talented people. I'm certainly not claiming to be the best producer or engineer in the world, but as someone with over ten years experience in this game these are obvious issues I hear quite regularly.

It's finished! 🥳🥳🥳

I originally started this book as a guide to give my clients, but I have now decided to give it away free to anyone who wants it.

38 pages of hard fought knowledge lie within, this book walks you through the current best practices to follow when releasing a single. Everything in this book is based on methods I've proven myself with previous clients. These methods have been tested almost entirely with independent rnb and pop artists.

If you're a total beginner or a more seasoned artist looking for some tips, this book will have some value for you. I've kept it as real as I can, so there's no BS here or regurgitated content. (Side note I researched lots of other 'release guides' before writing this, and I have gone a lot deeper than any others I found).

Started a few ideas for a dark and moody RnB sample pack in the style of artists like Brent Faiyaz, Sonder, Frank Ocean etc...I really like the vibe of some of these artists that are leaning away from the 'trap style' beats we've all heard a million times 😴

What do you guys think? Is this up your street?

Jeez I wish I could sing, I'd probably be a millionaire by now 🤑

Guys this is for the artists who are always struggling with costs, getting the money together to invest in their career, etc.. This is literally the easiest time in history to make money from an ability to sing or write music. Don't sleep on this!

Number one in this list alone would bring in a liveable wage if you know how to navigate the business. When I ran my old company we represented singers all over the world who worked from home, recording vocals remotely for other artists, labels, publishers and more. And trust me, LOTS of people are looking for vocals ALL THE TIME. Some of these guys were making very handsome money doing this, recording from the comfort of their own home. Many of them also had successful artist careers which they could fund off the back of this.

Like most things in the music business, unfortunately it's not common knowledge how lucrative this avenue really is. You don't know what you don't know, right?

If you feel like money is a hurdle, take some time to consider this. You could well be sitting on a golden ticket!

Back up and running after a frustrating few days! My trusty 2011 imac has now been retired, new setup is macbook Pro and a 34 ultra wide monitor. Interested to see if the monitor improves work flow as I have heard good things about these 🤓

Ask yourself a tough question...

All independent artists want more fans, but in 2021 you have to ADD VALUE to keep people engaged and attract more fans.

Scrolling through insta feeds is like groundhog day sometimes. Now more than ever is the time to focus on adding some value to people, after all they followed you for a reason in the first place, right? Here's some things I see all the time that I question the value of....

* Glossy photos with a meaningless and irrelevant 'inspirational' caption
* Constant reminders about 'the grind' without any music to back it up
* Ignoring questions, likes or comments from your followers (arrogant af)
* A barren profile that is rarely updated other than random stories about your day to day life

I'm not hating on anyone and if this is working for you then happy days. But, the artists who are gaining REAL fans (I.E people who give a s**t and will support you over and above a 'like') are doing a lot more than this, such as....

*interacting with fans (yes, each and every one who likes, follows or comments you should interact with and be grateful for. Minus points for generic auto responders, it's not 2017 anymore bro)
*Asking them what they want more of (singing snippets, covers, collabs, fashion tips, etc.)
*giving back to them (free tickets, private online performance, free merch, etc)

There are tons of things you can do to nurture and grow your fanbase, but just following the crowd probably isn't one of them.

They already like you, so focus on your unique gifts that made them follow in the first place and go and give them value!

Get those half written demos, voice notes or nearly finished projects wrapped up! They aren't going to move you forward if you don't finish them!

I am taking my own advice on this one and am committed to finishing about 6 unfinished songs by the end of the year.

It's important to finish your songs, even the ones you're not sure about. Even if they don't turn out to be your best work, I truly believe its an art in itself to see a song through to the finish line. Most people (producers and artists) don't do it and it's the only way to grow.
