When’s the right time to share your content?

If you google this you might find a variety of answers depending on the social media platform, audience and time of research.

There is no one answer fits all.

Yes, we can make assumptions about when users are ‘online’ (before bed seems to be common across all platforms!) However saying yes to one or all of the three factors below, means it’s the right time to post:

🙃 When your followers are online & active
🙃 When you have something relevant to say
🙃 When you can create something of value to share

For maximum results your CTA (call to action) should also be considered… a busy mum on the school might not have time to comment, share & tag on your post so that competition post could be better later on in the evening.

How much do they know about you, and you about them? What questions are they asking, how can you get them talking to you?

Often our followers are at the top of our sales funnel, they are aware of us, they might have followed us for a while, but they haven’t purchased yet.

Switch your focus to your existing followers and getting them engaged, before you look for new and more followers.

How?

Show up more! It’s time to share more Stories.

Use your Comments and DM’s. Invite followers to message you longer conversations can be had and reply to the comments you have.

Get specific. Share content that directly relates to the problems they have, and if you don’t know ask them!

Firstly you’re not alone! But don’t panic if you haven’t been posting regularly, or are finding that you are spending waaaay too much time on the content before you share it, these tips will help!

Preparation is the key, understanding who you are talking to - your ideal customer and knowing what they want to read is a good starting point. As is understanding your brand values, key messages and story.

What gets you going when creating content? Do you get creative at a particular time of day? With a specific drink/snack, what prep do you do?

In a recent Instagram update said that carousel posts are a great way to increase engagement and are just as important as video, & we agree!

💪 Carousel posts encourage people to spend longer consuming your content (if you make it interesting for them ;)… we like to swipe!

💪 Carousel posts are often shown twice in your feed. Instagram gives them an extra chance for engagement…normal posts/single images are shown once!

💪 Carousel posts are a great way to tell your story concisely and easily - without writing a long caption keeping followers interest

We've been pondering lately - should we be including awareness days in social media strategies?

While Awareness Days serve as powerful reminders on crucial issues, we all know that these issues don't disappear once the day is over!

Now, if the issue/cause aligns with the values of your business, incorporating it into your content strategy can be both impactful and authentic, if the issue doesn't align with your business values, forcing it into your content may come across as insincere.

We work with our clients to understand what matters to them, to understand their business's & their customer's values before we start to create any content. This then informs the content strategy, issues/causes/beliefs feature within their content regularly, not just on one day.

So although this post might inspire you to talk about a particular issue you are passionate about on one day, also use it as a reminder to encourage you to think about what matters to you, and how that can fit within your content regularly.

Every day offers an opportunity to advocate, educate, and take action on the issues that matter most to us and our communities.

Want to cut cr@p at networking and get to know the ‘real’ person?!

You never know where a conversation will lead! But it can be hard to get to the conversation if you have the sales pitch in the way!

It was from this thought that Cocktails & Conversations was born.

I was missing out on the opportunity to get to the ‘deeper’ conversations & develop relationships, the chance to really get to know someone and share experiences & stories. I was missing the ‘colleague’ relationships from my corporate life, so decided to set up an evening where people in business could connect, let off steam and be themselves in a less structured environment. Over the last 2 years I have been proud to host 7 events which have been attended by over 400 people in business!

Cocktails & Conversations returns on Thursday 2nd May, The Vault Bar & Lounge hopefully by then the sunshine will be making more of an appearance, and we will be ready to be socialable…. rather than snuggled up on the sofa!

Awareness days can inspire you to create content, they should be used when:

☑️ the day aligns with your brand values and messaging
☑️ you can contribute meaningfully to the conversation
☑️ the day is relevant to your audience and provides valuable information or resources
☑️ you're genuinely passionate about raising awareness for the cause

Avoid using awareness days if:

❌ it feels forced or insincere
❌ it distracts feels like tokenism
❌ you're just hopping on the bandwagon without adding anything meaningful

Where to start?

At the beginning of a new year we often review what we have achieved in the previous year, or what we want to achieve in the coming year.

I have met with several clients over the last week and carried out audits, making recommendations and plans for the coming months. So, if you are reviewing your own social accounts what questions could you ask yourself? Here's an idea of where you can you start...

Take a look at your followers - are they your target audience? (You can research and remove accounts that don't fit your profile)
Which content has the greatest reach/engagements? (create more content like this!)
Who is looking at your accounts/how many follower requests have you had and where from?
Which keywords feature in your bios/content? (Are the appropriate)
Do you have the right URLs linked?
What are your key messages? (Does your content reflect this?)
Which accounts/groups have you been engaging with? (Are they still relevant?)
How long are you spending on social media? (What is your return and what are your call to actions?)

When was the last time you reviewed your accounts and social media activity?

Are you cooking, eating, watching tv or on the loo?! 🙃

With the average social media user online for 2 hours and 17 minutes a day, it isn't uncommon for us to be doing something else whilst catching up on our news feeds.

This, and the old marketing Rule of 7 (an individual needs to see a brand message 7 times before taking action), can help to explain whilst it takes time to get your audience to respond to a call to action, whether this be a comment or a click.

🤔What can you do?

When you post your content consider what your followers might be doing at that time e.g. in the morning they might be eating breakfast & getting ready for work, in the evening they might be sat with a partner more relaxed. Keep this in mind whilst creating your call to action - your followers are more likely to look at your website, or sign up to a newsletter when they are more relaxed, than rushing about in the morning.

Make sure you add a clear call to action on your content, what would you like someone to do after reading your post (if you don’t ask you won’t get!)

What results do you value?

Every client we work with has a different goal, this affects their social media and content strategy.

E.g if its engagement we might focus on storytelling and community building.

If its content reach we play to the platform algorithms focusing on the type of content that each prefer eg. video/reels for as many eyes as possible!

If email subscription is the CTA, then first step is to ensure links are included in bios & regular content (you’d be surprised how many times it isn’t!)

Whatever your goal remember to keep them in mind when you are looking at your social media results/insights. Don't be distracted by numbers that aren't getting you to your goal (unless they are causing a problem).
