Classic Jaguar Information about Classic Jaguar magazine, by Kelsey Media. Classic Jaguar is now published six times per year in the UK, and is available worldwide.

Classic Jaguar is a celebration of Jaguar's best cars, from the early SS days right up to the XJ40 and XJS. That means we cover the classic sports cars, such as the XK120, XK140 and XK150 as well as the E-Type. Saloons are very much our thing too, including Mk1, Mk2, MkVII-IX, original S-Type, 420 and XJ6 and XJ12 up to 1994. Follow this page for exclusive behind-the-scenes content and to find out when each issue will arrive.

We have Nick Cliffe to thank for telling us about the astounding early E-type on the cover of our latest issue, as well as helping on the shoot. And it's a great advertisement for our special December/January 2025 issue, which has a whopping 16% more Jaguar content than normal. Dedicated to buying, restoring, modifying and enjoying your classic Jaguar, whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or a new reader, it's a one-stop source of information to improve your experience of Jaguar ownership. We've also got a guide to modifications that will improve your car, and our top ten winter jobs. Elsewhere, we look at a race-prepared MkVII in Australia, one man's life journey through the Jaguar marque, and a trip out to Holy Island with Gareth Charlton. And if you want a 6.0 saloon, we've pitted the final two XJ12 models against each other to find out which is best.

How have you spent your weekend? We've spent ours reading the latest issue. Our Editor has been in Italy, taking part in the iconic Mille Miglia, and we've pitted the E-type against Aston Martin's DB6. We show you how to buy an X300, and ask a question enthusiasts have been asking for a quarter of a century - is the XJ40 2.9 any good? Paul Guinness tells the story of Sir William Lyons's involvement with a post Leyland takeover Jaguar, and Gareth Charlton's been back to the Dales in his Jaguar Sovereign SIII.

Editor Sam here - do any of our readers want our Series III project?

1985 Daimler 4.2, Cirrus Grey with Buckskin leather. I paid £1,950 for this car back in March, based on as good an inspection as I could give without a ramp and the MoT history showing several clean sheet passes. It seemed solid but scruffy, which is what I wanted.

Since purchase it's had all the ignition electrics replaced including fitment of a 123 distributor, it's had the injector wiring redone so it now runs on all 6, it's had a full rebuild of the front brakes with new calipers, discs and pads, and it's got dimmable LED dash lighting courtesy of our friends at Better Car Lighting. It's also had some minor improvements such as the refitting of badges to the front wings,a replacement pinstripe, and replacements for worn decals on the dash and stalks. The centre console walnut panel has been restored, and the seat tilt switch has been replaced. It is in a much better state than it was upon purchase.

After the rebuild of the front brakes, I had it put in for an MoT certain that it would be a formality - just 200 miles since the last advisory-free test. It was not. To cut a long story short it needs a pair of sills and work to the front subframe, on top of other things like a pair of rear wheel bearings. It also - as readers will know - needs a decent sunroof panel. There's one with it but it needs work.

Having totted it up, I reckon there's £3,000 of work involved in putting a test on it unless you can do it all yourself. Realistically given that it's an average, usable example, if I spend the money having the welding done I am going to end up at a point where I'm almost £7,000 into what will be a £3,500 car when done. If I could weld then it would be a nice project to do myself, but I can't - so I think the sensible solution is to sell to someone who can, and buy a more solid example with the money I've saved at a later date.

Edit: There is a mileage discrepancy showing in the history file. In 2012, the mileage dropped by 50,000. As there seems to have been no attempt made to hide this by removing old bills, and it was in the care of one garage for one owner from 2010 to 2016, it is my belief that this indicates a change of speedometer through failure rather than anything suspect. I believe the correct mileage to be in the vicinity of 170,000.

The car is currently in North West Norfolk, but if nobody is interested beforehand I will be consigning it to a classic car auction as a spares/repairs project. I'm going to lose my shirt on this project, I'm not expecting my investment back by a long way, but it would be nice to see a reader pick up where I'm leaving off. Would anybody like to make an offer before I send it to auction? If I can get back the majority of my initial purchase price I'll treat the rest as an expensive lesson.

Day 4 has been the most manic yet here on the Mille Miglia. But it's been great fun, including the display at Siena and a number of night trials.

Have you ever been tempted to undertake a road rally?

Day 3 of the Mille Miglia is over, and the Holiday Inn in Rome has become an impromptu paddock not only for the Fast Lane Club, but for other entrants to boot. Where's the most unusual place you've ever designated as a service bay?

Thanks to the lovely people from Car-Iconics and all the other people involved.
