This is one of the most important questions for anyone who has a social media account. No matter what stage you are currently at, from 100 followers all the way to a million, you should always question your value proposition.⁠
Instagram is now saturated with high-quality content, so it's good to keep in mind that you're also competing with pages who specialise in specific content types. ⁠

Take a piece of content you have posted in the past and ask yourself why someone liked it. Is it because of the aesthetics, the information in the caption or a combination of both? ⁠
⁠
If you’re a wildlife photographer but have made the decision to use loads of graphic design, ask yourself what value this will add to your audience. Maybe your new overlay design actually gets in the way of your incredible photography, and that maybe you are unnecessarily targeting an audience with graphic design, that will find better value on a specialized graphic design page?⁠
⁠
The game of social media is about people’s attention, and everyone is looking for something they haven’t seen before. Find something unique about your business, page or content and lean into it. This will become the reason “why” people will follow you. And remember, keep asking yourself that question!

Sometimes the use of empty space in a photo can work in your favor, it draws focus to your subject and leaves it space to breathe. It can also let your viewer’s eye wander at the other things in the photo without being overwhelmed!

If you want to get those clean commercial looking shots where the food actually looks appetising you've got to get your lights out. A yellow spotlight is going to make that fresh salad look like dirty seaweed!

Lighting a scene can get tricky when shooting in a public space. Not only do you need to be aware of not disturbing people's experience at the venue, but you also need to keep the lighting true to the ambiance and lastly to keep the key light motivated by a practical, or other source in that space.

Bottom line is, do not compromise on good lighting if you have room to do so because it will lift the production value significantly.

I shot all the taco making footage for this video, went to edit it and thought to myself, “this just isn’t working”. Everything was shot in a kitchen but the idea was to portray the adventure bur cutting to some onions being chopped up just isn’t cutting it!

I need something to recreate these memories - but seeing as I can’t just get the bus to Mexico I needed some way of doing it. This is where the right stock footage can make all the difference, don’t be afraid to use it!

Meet Maria (.nakhmanovich) our lead photographer and co-founder. One of the reasons why Content Crib came into existense was Maria's dissapointment in ways UK creative industries abuse young talent:

"I came to London to get a second BA in and spent a total of 5 years, including foundation and industry practice year, learning Graphic Design and it's application. What I came to realise was that my GMD course in LCC didn't teach any career skills, the focus was hugely put on conceptual work rather than practical and all of the crucial skills like learning to use actual software were extracurricular.. But the major dissapointment happened while I was doing my year in the industry - as it is there are a lot of people involved in free labour for an opportunity to put some company's name on their CV and I don't see why our university supports the idea that young creatives should work underpaid for work experience. Maybe UAL doesn't believe their graduates have enough skills to land a junior creative positon after graduation..
⠀
And here I was discussing our career plans with Darius and whether we should stay freelance or start a company - it was a very obvious choice. Content Crib is a team of creatives who do what they love, are driven by work not by pay-checks and are judged by their performance not work experience.

When I presented this idea to my university as part of my Graduate Entrepreneur application - I was told it is not financially viable(to pay your employees as much as they earn and not overcharge your clients). Well, what did it teach me? If deep inside you feel something is right - just do it.
⠀
It's been almost 3 years and we've grown from a band of 2 to a collective of 9 amazingly talented people. I can't wait to see where the next year will take us!"

Even though rules give us the necessary creative constraights to find direction and finish projects, breaking some of them can also push you into being completely unique and lead to some amazing creative breakthroughs! - Just be brave enough to think outside the box!

Working with chefs is very rewarding. Not because you get to eat everything they cook but because you get to listen and learn. It's like a private cooking lesson. Cooking is such an expressive medium and there is such a high level of attention to detail. I remember distinctively when was describing the croutons. How they shouldn't be finely chopped into little cubes but they should be broken up into random shapes and sizes with your hands. Why? Because the ends of the croutons will be more crunchy and each crouton is one of a Kind. I mean that's exactly what I'm talking about.
