If you are worried about sharing personal content...keep reading.

A question I get asked about all the time is whether or not to share personal content. A lot of small biz owners (myself included!) are worried that the personal content they share won't be relevant to their audience.

But here's the thing 👉 people actually WANT to see more of the person behind the biz they love.

Your audience loves to see behind the scenes and things like...where you're heading on holiday, what you did on the weekend, what book you're reading next. It gives your customers an insight into the REAL you, the personality behind the brand, that you’re not faceless.

This kind of content usually gets great engagement because you aren't trying to sell anything, you're just sharing a bit of who you are and what you love - and that makes you super relatable!

So don't be afraid to share your behind-the-scenes.

Personal content is what makes your small biz special and different from those huge agencies and chain stores.

Easter is the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus from the tomb after his crucifixion, and today it’s a way for Christians to renew daily hope.

So we wish you all a happy Easter Sunday, and rather fitting as we look ahead with renewed hope to the steady easing of lockdown restrictions.

The naming of the celebration as “Easter” seems to go back to the name of a pre-Christian goddess in England, Eostre, who was celebrated at the beginning of spring. The only reference to this goddess comes from the writings of the Venerable Bede, a British monk who lived in the late seventh and early eighth century!

Bede was so influential for later Christians that the name stuck, and hence ‘Easter’ remains!

Something that comes up a lot in consultations is that you need to have accounts on all platforms ⁣🧐
⠀⠀⁠
I think it makes more sense to do a really good job on one than an ok job on all of them. If you're a small business owner then you're going to be stretched pretty thin creating all that content! 🤯⠀⠀⁠

For you to choose the best platform, you have to think about your target audience, spend some time researching what they do, what they like, what hashtags they follow 👏

You want to use the platform that they're using and hit them with content that resonates. For example, if you're selling gardening tools to women in their 50’s it doesn't make sense to be on TikTok!

Having a clear brand identity, engaged following and clear sales channel on one platform will be so much more effective than a few posts here and there on all of them.

When it comes to marketing, a lot of us spend way too much time getting caught up in all the bells and whistles.

We want the fancy software, the pretty website and the flashy apps because we think that's what will bring us more profit.

But I'll let you in on a secret 👉 those things aren't as important as you think they are.⁣

🔑Communication is key because...⁣

◽️If people don't know WHAT you are selling, they can't buy from you.⁣

◽️If people don't understand WHY your product or service is amazing...they won't buy from you.⁣

Those, my friends, are called demographics. And yeah, they are important and give you information that is useful when it comes to marketing...but they are not the be all and end all.⁣

When it comes to knowing your audience, you need to go DEEPER.⁣ 🌊

I'm talking...⁣

🔸what objections or challenges are they facing?⁣
🔸what mindset blocks do they currently have?⁣
🔸what are their goals and deepest desires?⁣

Because THAT is the information you need to sell your products and services. That is the stuff that you can speak to, empathise with and use to build connections with your audience.⁣

We have to remember that our followers are not just a number, they are real people with real struggles.⁣

And when you start talking to audience in a way that makes them feel seen and understood, you become irresistible to them. That is magnetic marketing and it is a game-changer.⁣ 🌟

Here are my social media tips for small business owners out there!

1. Engage with your target audience on a regular basis.

2. Think ahead when it comes to creating posts - note down any special events so you don't forget!

3. Set time aside every month to film videos and take photos for content - this will save you LOADS of time in the long-run.

4. Join communities within your niche - I've found that since I've become self-employed, joining groups and connecting with people in the same boat as me has helped loads.

5. Keep up to date with the latest social media trends and features that are released - your account will be favoured over your competitors if you act fast!

6. Experiment with different kinds of posts to see what is working and what is not - check your insights every month and take note.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Traditional St Patrick’s Day events have largely been cancelled this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however, there are still some virtual celebrations taking place!

From 4pm today, The London Irish Centre will stream a special virtual St. Patrick’s Day event to celebrate the very best of Irish culture and community in London. The event is free and will be available on https://buff.ly/30Oeby1 as well as their social media platforms!

The theme for the event is ‘London Le Chéile’, which is the Irish for London Together, which captures the spirit of collaboration, creativity, and community shown by the Irish in London through Covid challenges.

The stream starts at 4pm with three hours of Irish culture and heritage, featuring storytelling, film, music, dance, language and fun. From 7pm the event goes fully live with presenter Angela Scanlon, who will host conversations with Imelda May, Richard Corrigan, Emma Dabiri, Siobhan McSweeney and more.

👍 Genuinely engage with your audience - that looks like leaving meaningful comments on their posts, replying to their stories and striking up conversations naturally.⁣

👍 Show up consistently - the easiest way to do this is to create a content plan (the time for winging posts is over!)⁣

👍 Know your audience - so that you can always be posting content that is really valuable for them. ⁣

👍 Be yourself! - It's tempting to try and be someone more fun, loud etc but the best thing you can be is yourself. Your audience wants to see you!⁣

Over the next two days, I’ll be sharing tips of how to build trust and credibility on your social media platforms.

Building trust with your audience is an absolutely essential piece of your marketing strategy. It is what moves people from stranger - to follower - to fan - to eventually becoming a customer!⁣ 🙌

So today let's talk about what not to do, tomorrow will be the DO’s:

DON'T:⁣

👎 Jump cold into people's DMs to pitch them - This makes people uncomfortable because they don't know anything about you and they are definitely not ready to buy from you yet!⁣

👎 Wing your content and post randomly - Posting inconsistently makes you forgettable. Consistency builds trust and keeps you at the front of people's minds.⁣

👎 Ignore your audience - It is important that you answer every single comment that you get! ⁣

👎 Buy followers - This is a super sleezy way to grow your account (and we all know that lots of followers does not necessarily mean lots of £€$)⁣

To the small biz owner who is feeling overwhelmed with social media...

I see you and I want you know that you don't have to apologise for proritising your own needs over your social media marketing.

You don't have to feel guilty for looking after yourself, saying no or setting the boundaries you need to so that you can show up as the best version of yourself every day.

Friend, you don't have to apologise for:

🔸 Taking a day to respond to a DM
🔸 Unfollowing an account that makes you feel bad
🔸 Blocking someone who DMs you a sales pitch out of nowhere
🔸 Not sharing what you did over the weekend on stories
🔸 Taking a break from social media for a day, a week or a month

There are no rules about how you have to show up or when. Yes this is your business, but it is also your life. Live it on your terms. 👏

Trying to stay on top of everything is A LOT when you’re running a business.

You are forced to become an expert in all sorts of things you didn't expect to. Like web design, or branding, or managing your finances.

I know for a lot of small biz owners, managing social media can get neglected because you've just got so many other things to worry about.

So if that's you, here are my top tips for avoiding overwhelm with Instagram👇

✨ Test everything - you never know what works until you try. I like to think that any failures or mistakes are really just opportunities to learn and make your strategy smarter. So don't be afraid to test and trial new ideas, strategies and features.

✨ Have a clear strategy - it is really important to know what you are aiming for (or else how will you know when you achieve it?) And once you know what your goals are, you need to figure out the process that is going to help you achieve them - that's where your strategy comes in!

✨ Plan ahead + schedule your content - organisation is the BEST way to beat overwhelm. So one of my best tips is to plan out your content and schedule it.
