Ok, for all the Marketers out there, this should come as an absolute doddle because as any good Marketer knows, people are what drive Marketing, and so getting to KNOW your community is key to help drive your content and Marketing forward effectively.

2024 is going to rely heavily on Community because you cannot force, fake, CGI or AI community.

Yes, there will still be value, and entertainment and of course there will be trends - it wouldn't be Social Media without them!

Here are my Top Community Tips for 2024:
🌟Slide in the DM's on the regular to check-in with people, either type them a message or drop them a voice note - not for the purpose of 'selling' but simply to check-in and remind them they are valued.
🌟User Generated Content, acknowledge it, encourage it, love it!! These are stories you're tagged in, comments you receive, remember you can create a reel off the back of a comment you receive, or attach a comment to a story and develop the discussion further!
🌟Content for community sake!! Intersperse your valuable content, with content that is purely there for the sake of community connection. Don't sell a thing, don't promote a thing, just get a common ground conversation going and allow people to feel part of something!
🌟Collaborate & Credit!! Whether one to one, or in a group through lives, through collaboratively written content and make sure all parties are credited for the brilliance they have contributed.

When you're talking to everyone, you're speaking to no-one!

Really refine who your target audience is, based on what you do and who you best serve - then make content for them, speak directly to them through your content.

The out of office is being switched on, the wine is being poured and Christmas can finally begin!

Grid posts will be taking a break until 9th January, but I'll still probably pop up on stories from time to time with my Roast Potatoes and Christmas Chaos.

I'll also be finding the time to do some of those really mundane things like:

The face of Social Media Marketing has changed (again!!)

This is exactly why there aren't any books out there about
'How to do Social Media Marketing', because the game would have changed before the author can even finish writing the introductory paragraph.

What worked 2 years ago, 12-18 months ago, heck, even last month - has changed.
So, we have to change too!

So, whilst you go back to your strategy and look at adaptations and how you can pivot yet again, let me just remind you why we experience such rapid change in Social Media Marketing.

It's because or your neighbour, your doctor, the owners of the local pub, it's because of me, and it's because of you!

💋Changes occur in Social Media Marketing, because of the behaviour of people.

💋Trends come and go, because they are made 'trendy' by people.

💋Topics of discussion happen because that's what's captured peoples attention.

💋It is called Social Media for a reason. It's governed by Society and Social Interactions.

Read that again!

We talk about the NEED to be consistent with our Social Media Marketing, but there is a lot of confusion about WHAT should actually be Consistent.

It’s not about posting at the exact same time day after day, week after week.

It’s not about being set in stone, it’s about embracing the ebb and flow of our businesses and our audiences and Social Media Platforms themselves and still delivering the valuable message we have to share.

This is exactly why copying someone else's Social Media, or copying their Marketing, their Voice or Messaging, replicating their Aesthetic or 'stealing their strategy' just doesn't work!!

✅There is a wealth of content out there and some of it is packed full of hints and tips to take on board and adapt to you and your account.
⚠️But there is also a large quantity of content out there which will offer false hopes and advise on totally unrealistic approaches that just aren't going to sit right with everyone.

Even as Social Media Managers, our role is to continually pivot on behalf of ourselves and clients to keep content aligned with industry and niche standards.
But we're able to do this cohesively, because strong strategies, make for strong foundations that we can pivot on!

By all means, seek inspiration - and most definitely seek coaching guidance, but be sure that the coaching and mentoring is actually going to be considered and tailored to you - and not a one approach fits all template!

Honestly, who thought Social Media Marketing would be 'easy'?

The more features a platform has the more confusing it can be to know what kind of content to put where.

Although we might have very simple and specific goals for our Social Media accounts, we still want to get the max out of our content, really get it pulling it's weight and working for us.

We want brand and business awareness, whilst also demonstrating our authority within our industry and niche as well as building and nurturing communities organically and showing up with authenticity all whilst not totally burning ourselves out!!

Simple, right?!?

This is where I cannot stress enough that the time you invest in developing strategies will help you sooooo much on the long run.

If you ever struggle for content inspiration, then aligning with awareness days can be a great starting point of inspiration.
Here are some of the awareness days that will fall during October. I've focussed on World and International Days because there were just far too many to fit in for October.

Why use awareness days?
Here's the first rule - you don't need to use them all. If it feels like a stretch to link your business to a particular awareness topic that it definitely doesn't align and you shouldn't use it.
If the awareness topic deeply reflects the ethos, values and purpose of your business - then a main feed post and stories and reels and ALL,THE.CONTENT is appropriate.
If the awareness topic is more reflective of your personality then stories are a great place to mention them. example.... World Coffee Day. To me, Coffee is life, but it's not what my business is about, so a story sharing my favourite coffee order and asking for yours would be a simple way to use this awareness day as a content prompt.

Additionally, October is a great month create Seasonal Content.
When creating content, we do it so that we can connect with people, and what better way to connect than to be relevant?!?
We're properly into the Autumnal vibes, crisp air, crunchy leave, warm drinks and pumpkin spice everywhere - so use this aesthetic to showcase your products.

This rule is applicable throughout the year for any season or occasion.

Creating relevant content is going to connect and tap into your consumers buying mindset more effectively.

For anyone who didn't know, Digital Touchpoints are all instances where customers come into contact your your business or brand in a Digital Capacity.

It's the same as if you have a physical shop or premises where customers come to, and all the instances where the customer is going to engage with aspects of your business or brand.

This is not what Social Media Marketing is, it's not what Marketing is about.

Sadly, this is where a big misconception about Social Media Marketing has stemmed from - that posting about buying products is going to generate infinite sales straight off the bat.

It's not!

Your Social Media Marketing is telling a story that will one day, compel others to choose to buy from you, or work with you.

💡Think about the Who, What, When, Where, How and Why of your business, your products, your services and your customers.

Then create content that is a reflection of this.

Now you're thinking like a Social Media Marketer!
