Corey Mwamba's show BBC Radio 3 over the holiday was a beautiful one - including Louis Moholo-Moholo's 'You Ain't Gonna Know Me Cos You Think You Know Me' from the Freedom Tour album on Ogun. Still an emotional listen (30 years ago and more!)

Corey Mwamba shares new free jazz and improvised music to usher in peace.

Great sadness to hear that Carla Bley has died. Truely great and innovative composer and arranger - highlights are so numerous of course but we always loved this album, featuring the magical voice of Julie Tippetts.

RIP Carla Bley (May 11, 1936 - October 17, 2023), one of jazz' great composers, arrangers, bandleaders and pianists. Just over 20 years ago, we ran this Cover Story on her (né AllAboutJazz-New York)....

Great review of ther 50th anniversary gig by Kevin Whitlock Jazzwise

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Cadillac Records and sister label Ogun, and this celebratory evening didn't disappoint with rocket-fuelled music and a rare 1967 film of The Blue Notes

Recorded at the Covent Garden Jazz Saxophone Festival 1989 by Dave Bernez and released on CD by Ogun in 1990.

"This performance was the band's very first gig. That's not meant as an excuse, quite the opposite. The chemistry and the co-operation of these blokes is terrific and made the musical organisation very simple. Since this concert the group has grown and blossomed in an unlimited manner." Elton Dean
Elton Dean - alto sax, saxello
Paul Dunmall - tenor & baritone saxes Paul Dunmall - news and stuff
Trevor Watts - alto sax
Paul Rogers - double bass
Tony Levin - drums

great programme about the Blue Notes on the Finnish radio station YLE - a Jazz club Special - can't listen outside of Finland sadly - but here's the tracklisting.

The mid-70s were an interesting (troubling?) time for jazz, weren’t they? What to do next? Has it all been done already? Go hard avant-garde? Maybe fuse into something more commercial? And if neith…

Out today! The first issue on CD of the beautiful EDQ album with Elton Dean, Keith Tippett, Louis Moholo-Moholo and Chris Laurence. Recorded live at the Seven Dials club, this reissue has a whole second LPs worth of material. When we were going through the tapes we came across 2 that looked as if they had been mixed, and low and behold, we had what looked like a second album all ready to go but never released! As good as the original album (as you'd expect) with precious and never heard compositions by Elton and Keith to whom this release is dedicated. We've also added some new photos and David Ilic has masterfully reworked the sleeve. Gearbox Records did the transfers and mastering. https://ogunrecording.co.uk/2021/10/03/they-all-be-on-this-old-road-release-date-confirmed-nov-12/

Ogun releases are renowned for their artwork - often based around paintings either created for the release or by artists connected to the label and the musicians. OG001 Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath Live at Willisau, the first Ogun album, set the bar high. The dramatic hands image, created by designer Niklaus Troxler who also founded the Swiss festival is still active and his award winning work has graced many music posters and album sleeves
