A BIG CHANGE FOR OLYMPIA, THE LONDON INTERNATIONAL HORSE SHOW

Olympia, The London International Horse Show’s 2021 edition will relocate to ExCeL London and take place from Thursday 16 to Monday 20 December 2021, organisers announced today.
The Olympia London venue in West Kensington, which has been home to the iconic horse show for the last 49 years, is currently undergoing a re-development plan. As a result of COVID-19, the building activity for the re-development programme has accelerated. The revised construction programme will restrict the use of the venue for events in December 2021, hence the decision to move the Christmas horse show from Olympia London to ExCeL London.
Simon Brooks-Ward, Event Director, commented; “We are very pleased that we are able to stage the event at ExCeL London. This modern venue offers us the opportunity to build on all the aspects of the Christmas horse show that our visitors, hospitality guests, sponsors, competitors and officials know and love. The scope and flexibility of ExCeL will enable us to add exciting new features and will allow a larger arena with integrated hospitality.”

“We are looking forward to running a near as normal Show at Windsor in July,” said Show Director, Simon Brooks-Ward. “The start of this year has been difficult for all live events, but recent government announcements have given us the confidence to go full steam ahead with the organising of Royal Windsor, which includes planning for an audience.”

All competition will be carried out with the emphasis being on competitors’ safety and adherence to COVID-19 guidelines required at that time by the local authority, health authorities, veterinary and equestrian associations and the government.

The schedule and a day-by-day programme will go online shortly with the Show running as close to its traditional format as possible and including International Jumping, Dressage, the Land Rover International Carriage Driving Grand Prix, International Endurance and Showing.

Update on planning for Horse of the Year Show 2021

Grandstand Media Limited is pleased to provide an update on the ongoing preparations for Horse of the Year Show 2021, (6th – 10th October 2021).

We are currently planning for next year’s Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) to go ahead. Given that there are still many months until the show itself, we are considering numerous scenarios at this point.

Our number one priority is, and will remain to be, the health and safety of all those who come together to make HOYS happen, as we continue to support the government’s plans to control the spread of the virus.

It has been demonstrated, this summer season, that showing and showjumping competitions are able to adopt Covid-19 safety measures and run in accordance with guidelines. The team are working hard to confirm details for the 2021 qualifier season, to ensure that the much-loved Horse of the Year Show is both safe for everyone and a fitting Championship event.

Emma Williams, Horse of the Year Show event director, commented: “We feel a huge responsibility to our industry to try our best to ensure that the staging of the 72nd Horse of the Year Show can take place in 2021. We do not underestimate the huge task ahead of us, but with the goodwill of the equestrian community, be it the sponsors, trade exhibitors, visitors, competitors, staff, officials, volunteers and contractors, we believe that by pulling together we can come back with a show suitable and safe for the times that we are in. To those sponsors and trade exhibitors that have already reconfirmed their commitment to the show we are extremely grateful, and we hope that many more will join you. Horse of the Year Show is an institution that many of us love dearly; it is part of the UK’s equestrian heritage and we cannot let it disappear. Please join us on this journey in whatever way you can.”

‼️Sad news from Olympia, The London International Horse Show‼️

The Organising Committee of Olympia, The London International Horse Show announced today that with great regret it has taken the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Show.

Over the last few months, the Olympia organising team has been looking at multiple scenarios to try to stage the indoor Show with the health and welfare of everyone involved at the heart of that decision-making process. Reluctantly, it has been concluded that it is not possible to run the event in December 2020 given the commercial implications of the government social distancing guidelines and the numerous additional Covid-19 safety requirements.

Unfortunately, this means that the Olympia feature events, including the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™, the Olympia Grand Prix, the Puissance, the FEI Dressage World Cup™ and the FEI Driving World Cup™ qualifiers will not be held in 2020, along with the international displays and all of the traditional Olympia festive entertainment.

HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW 2020 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

It is with great regret, that we must announce the cancellation of Horse of the Year Show 2020 due to public health concerns linked to the coronavirus pandemic. The 72nd edition of the event will now take place from Wednesday 6th – Sunday 10th October 2021, at the NEC Birmingham.

At the forefront of our minds has been, and will remain to be, the health and safety of all of those who come together to make Horse of the Year Show happen - the visitors, competitors, staff, officials, volunteers, partners, trade exhibitors and contractors - as well as our wider responsibility to support the efforts to tackle this challenge to our everyday lives.

Members of the public who have purchased tickets for HOYS 2020 will be offered the option to retain their tickets for the same day and seat for the 2021 event or alternatively they can claim a refund. Over the next few weeks, we will be working with our ticketing agent, The Ticket Factory, to communicate directly with all ticket holders, in addition to contacting trade exhibitors and sponsors.

We are sure that cancelling this year’s Horse of the Year Show will be as great a disappointment for you, our loyal followers, as it is for us. It has been your passion for HOYS that has made our event what it is today, and it is undeniable that without the support of the equestrian community HOYS would not continue to happen.
We’d like to thank all our valued partners, customers and stakeholders for their continued support during these challenging times.

Our thoughts remain with all those that have been, and continue to be, affected by this pandemic.

Horse of the Year Show will return in 2021. We look forward to welcoming you back for what promises to be a fantastic showcase of equestrian competition and entertainment.

Dales Pony Society Summer Show Cancellation –

Message from the Chair

It is with great regret that Council has taken the decision to cancel The Summer Breed Show on 8th August 2020, but it was the only course to take.

Along with many others in the same position we must put most of this year’s showing season behind us and look forward with optimism to next year.

I hope that you are staying safe and that it won’t be too long before we can begin to meet again. In the meantime at least we have our ponies to keep us going and to give us some breathing space away from day to day worries.

British Equestrian’s stance on coaching and riding reviewed.

Please follow this link to read the full statement from the BEF.

“Although the crisis remains at stage four, according to the government’s COVID Alert Levels, the spread of the virus is under control and the peak has now passed. While there has been no major relaxation of lockdown restrictions, the government did announce some changes that enable us to review our advice for the equestrian sector.”

We are sorry to share the news that the 2020 Equifest has been cancelled.
Following guidelines set out by the government, it will not be possible to hold the show this year.
Please follow the Equifest page for more information.

We regret to announce that we have taken on the difficult decision to cancel Equifest (Wednesday 19th August to Sunday 23rd August) 2020. Following the guidelines which have been set out by the government for the forthcoming months it will not be possible for us to hold the event this year. Our paramount concern is for the health and wellbeing of our competitors, exhibitors, judges and stewards during this time. It would not therefore be possible to plan and run an event of this scale whilst Covid-19 is still prominent throughout the country and we hope for your support on this decision.

This is an unprecedented and challenging time for everyone and with Equifest being the largest amateur horse show in the UK health and safety has to remain our number one priority. For those competitors who have entered online, refunds will be issued soon. Any cheques received that have not yet been presented will be destroyed. Any cheques already paid into our bank will be refunded. All exhibitors booked will also be refunded. We will be working to get these all done as soon as possible for you all.

In the meantime, keep an eye on our social media channels for more information. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s show.

For your diary, the dates for 2021 are the 18th – 22nd August 2021.

We wish you all the best and stay safe.

14/04/2020

We have seen a few posts over the weekend about lighting lanterns in support at this difficult time.

Just thought we would share the following advice- please share with your friends and family. We need to get the message out about these dangerous things.

The National Fire Chiefs Council has warned a campaign encouraging the public to light sky lanterns in a show of solidarity for NHS workers is ‘misguided’.

“All emergency services are currently under increased pressure due to COVID-19. And the Fire and Rescue Services believes the suggestion that people should set off highly flammable lanterns – at a time when wildfires are likely to be on the increase due to the weather conditions – should be highly discouraged.

The public are being urged to look for alternative ways to show their support to the NHS.

Lanterns are a fire hazard; pose a risk to livestock, agriculture, thatched properties and hazardous material sites. Almost 90 local authorities across the UK have banned the use of lanterns.

We do not advocate the use of sky lanterns and we do not believe they should be used under any circumstances.”

**HACKNEY DAY UPDATE** - Please share

We have been keeping a close eye on events over the past couple of weeks and in light of new guidelines we feel that as a society and as a team we need to put the health and safety of the children, the members and the public first and have therefore taken the hard decision to postpone the young drivers day. Please rest assured we will do our very best to try to make this happen towards the end of the season. We’re just as disappointed as we know you will be but it’s important to keep everyone safe.
