New Q&A live on The Flux Review with artist .art

Claudia Tong’s practice moves between traditional and new media, bringing together painting, illustration, mixed media, computer graphics, digital art and music composition.

Rooted in the human experience of ordinary moments, her work transforms familiar streets, stadiums, landscapes and everyday encounters into spaces of colour, imagination and symbolic energy.

With a background in computer science and psychology, Tong approaches art through both intellectual structure and creative freedom. Across watercolour, ink, acrylic, collage and code-based digital works, she explores the meeting point between logic and emotion, reality and fantasy, precision and spontaneity.

Shaped by her journey from China to Brown University and London, and influenced by science, philosophy, Taoism and ancient Chinese calligraphy, Tong’s work creates a dialogue between East and West, past and present, physical art and digital experimentation.

As director of Zebra One Gallery, Gabrielle continues a family legacy that began in 1976, while shaping the gallery’s direction for a contemporary audience. Her work with the Women in Art Prize extends that commitment, creating visibility, opportunity and professional support for women artists.

In this interview, Gabrielle reflects on gallery leadership, artist development, the changing role of independent galleries and the importance of building platforms that offer artists more than a single moment of recognition.

Mapping memory through abstraction.

Hong Kong–based artist Kwong Kwok Wai approaches painting as a visual diary, where cartography, history and personal identity converge. Drawing on aerial perspectives and map symbolism, his works navigate the space between geographical reality and inner experience — tracing the quiet complexities of place, movement and belonging.

Working with a hybrid technique that combines traditional Chinese pigments and oil, Kwong creates layered compositions that feel both precise and fluid, grounded yet uncertain. His practice reflects a deeply considered dialogue between past and present, East and West, structure and emotion.

Sampy Sicada is a British fine artist and visual developer based in Savannah, Georgia. He creates fine art in traditional mediums such as graphite, colour pencils and oil paints. Mainly specialising in surreal and photoreal portraits, his works have been exhibited in galleries internationally including the 2021 London Art Biennale and 2023 Ad Art Show and this year FLUX Exhibition.
