We're on on a roll! Here's another lovely nugget of feedback we received from one of our retained clients the other day 💖

They needed some urgent campaign content for a couple of new products turning around, and in usual SK Copy Co style, we took it off their hands, so they didn't have to worry about it 🤩

We reviewed and reworked blog content and produced accompanying social posts to promote the product launches - and we did it well ahead of schedule too 😉

Another real-life glimpse of what it's really like to work with us 🤩

We've been working with this particular client since the start of the year. They call on us for ad hoc content and PR support.

From a content perspective, we produce comms plans and batches of campaign-related case studies, social media posts and blogs, as well as internal comms and annual report copy.

And from a PR perspective, we produce press releases, drawing upon our journalism/press office/PR agency experience to write releases that start with a compelling angle and contain all of the details journalists need.

We don't churn out the tasks either. We add value by highlighting how the case studies, reports, press releases etc, can be strengthened, which:

Does your website copy consider the customer journey? 🤔

When we work on website projects, we don't just make sure the copy reads well and makes sense.

We make sure it guides readers along the customer journey.

This means, they're reading the right type of content at the right time. They aren't being rushed into making a decision, but are being carefully nurtured to make a decision in their own time.

For instance:

• The CTAs are strategically positioned and the wording isn't too pushy
• The on-page copy flows on from the previous pages
• Plus, it's supported by relevant proof points (testimonials and case studies)
• The visuals align with the copy
• Pop-ups appear in the right places and don't ask people for their details too soon

Because it's from a journalist - a trade magazine editor to be precise.

We’ve been working with him for around a year now. We chat to him about story ideas for an ongoing B2C client and pitch regular stories in various different formats to him too.

She was recently invited by the Editor of PRmoment to share her pearls of wisdom to help people who may be considering following in her footsteps and spreading their freelance wings.

Sanina, who has been working in the field of PR and marcomms for more than 20 years, reveals her No. 1 tip for freelance success, which focuses on the all-important tactic of lead generation and nurturing your pipeline:

Have a strategy for proactively generating clients. You can’t expect them to just magically land on your lap once you’ve updated your LinkedIn status to freelance.

For instance, are there any old contacts or colleagues you can reach out to? If you have agency experience, are there any regional marketing agencies that offer PR as a service, or dedicated PR agencies you can contact? If you want to provide companies with direct PR support, who are they, who’s the best person for you to speak to and what relevant industry experience do you have?

Potential clients aren’t going to know about you, your PR services and how you can help unless you tell them. Get into the habit of conducting proactive outreach from day one, regardless of how busy you may be.

Also remember to continue with your outreach, even when you have a full quota of clients and can’t take on anymore because clients’ requirements invariably change, which impacts how little or much they need you, or if they even need you at all. Treat yourself as a client and don’t neglect your client pipeline. 💬

Our client provided us with some bare bones bullet points and we went away and developed the information into informative blog content that:

a) Showcases the company's green credentials (in a highly informative, non-salesy way) 👣

b) Provides readers with practical guidance on how they can reduce their carbon footprint 📉

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬:

We produced the blogs within the required timescales and without having to reach out to our client for further information. This meant they could focus on their work and not have to spend their time or energy having to think about getting the blogs produced.

What's more, thanks to our content strategy experience, the blogs are well structured and written from an SEO perspective (without being obviously SEO-optimised). They also follow wider best practice principles and incorporate internal links, as well as a peppering of credible external links, where relevant.

*Some words of wisdom from our Director, Sanina*

I've never been a risk-taker, but 9 years ago I took a huge risk.

I decided to leave the comfort of being employed (the only thing I'd know since the age of 17) and set up my own business.

At the time, I played the decision down. I told myself 'I was just a freelancer', but in reality, I was a first-time business owner, who was about to take the biggest leap of faith in her life.

Even when I was being interviewed for my business bank account and had to evidence how I was going to make my company financially succeed, I played it down to myself.

And when I registered my business with Companies House and then went to submit by first set of accounts after my first successful year, I still played it down.

Telling myself I was a business owner put the fear of God into me. Other people ran businesses, not me?!

But now, after almost a decade of running my business, I'm finally comfortable with calling myself a business owner.

Yes, it's taken a while to build up the self-belief, the same self-belief (or lack of) that prevented me from taking the plunge sooner.

→ Do I wish I'd taken the plunge sooner? Yes.

→ Would you recommend it to others? Most definitely.

→ What would I say to others looking to follow in my footsteps? Take the plunge, but make sure you have a clear plan, stay disciplined, celebrate your wins (no matter how small they may be) and be prepared to work harder than you've ever worked before.

Outsourcing your work is a big task in itself *sigh*

You're stacked.

You've got to find the right person.

Make sure they work to the same standards as you.

Spend time briefing them on what you'd like them to do.

Check their work.

Feed back to them on their work.

And everything in between.

Taking the time to find the right person and letting them loose on 1 or 2 tasks or a project, can actually pay off.

You have peace of mind the work's being progressed.

There's the added benefit of receiving an objective viewpoint too.

Leaving you with more time to focus on what you need to get done.
