9TRANE makes his return to 1Forty some 4 years after his last release alongside Logan on ‘Evil Side’. 9TRANE has been part of the Label since Day 1 when he laid down a statement of intent with lead track ‘Compute Riddim’ Ft Killa P & Badness on the debut release when the Label arm was formed - 1FGRM001. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him back with his first track to enter our Single’s Free DL series with a UKG take of Danny W**ds iconic ‘Salt Beef’, one of 9TRANES favourite Grime instrumentals of all time from the producer and member of Roll Deep.

Doc Zee returns to the label some 5 years since his last release, to put the cherry on the top of that release back in 2018. A VIP of his funky flip of Wiley’s eski-classic ‘Colder’. The original released back in 2006 as part of the ‘Eskiboy Da 2nd Phaze’ Mixtape. The first release of 2024 sees the return of Sketchi, 18 months after he brought the first official Dubstep single for the label ‘Osami’. He kicks off 1Forty’s year with a high octane Dubstep/Grime hybrid take of Flowdans infamous ‘Shell A Verse’ acapella that the ex Roll Deep member made available on Bandcamp in 2018, and has since seen new heights hit with Sammy Virji’s UKG Remix in 2023.

It’s been over two years since a 140 Single entered the free download series on the label, as fresh talent T!M joins the ranks with a flip of M.I.K’s ‘Ice Rink’. Cult hero of the Grime scene and the Family Tree member first released the vocal in 2014, and could be heard far and wide from the scenes top selectors, from radios to the dance. Now 9 years later, it’s had the Bristolian treatment with the young producer breathing new life into a classic of the 2010’s Grime era.

1Forty sees its last paid release of the year in the shape of BSS009. The ninth edition of the Bass series pairs 4x4 Bassline legend TRC with Anti Social Services’ Avaword for ‘Sweatiest Shubz’. Killjoy makes a long awaited return to the label with a first original release for the first time since 2019 alongside Manny Mashup with ‘Don’t Run’. J69 keeps up the 4x4 Bassline theme on his fourth consecutive BSS appearance with ‘Warpin Hell’ before moving into the lower tempo of the bass sound with another pairing returning, Germany’s Bass and UKG duo Indialman offering up ‘Tooled Up’.

BAD NEWS ❌

Firstly thank you to everyone that kicked the 2023/24 season off with us last Friday 🙏

Flowdan and Drones performance was one of our favourites we've had in the basement and epitomises everything 1Forty is about - the authenticity of these genres.

We were gutted to find out on Monday when HiFi went to send the files to us they realised that there was an issue with the audio recording. Because of an error with the device shortly after it started recording (undetectable at the time on Audacity) it has made pretty much the whole master audio unusable.

Devastated is putting it lightly as we've been planning this since April with all parties involved, and vigorous testing has been done using both the audio and visual equipment bought over the Summer.

This technical that has occurred during recording has crippled near enough the whole nights recording meaning it's not at a standard we can use/share.

The GoPros managed to pick up the audio and we've been trying to edit all this week but ultimately as it was too distorted from the sound system we took the decision to not share any clips.

Unfortunately these sets will not be uploaded as this is not to the standard this output should be or will be going forward.

We have identified the issue and will resume as planned for Hamdi's Tour - although just a heads up we cannot share these sets until the Tour has concluded so we don't spoil it for the rest of the dates 🙏

RELEASE: x - Takeover 🏴

‘Takeover’ sees one of the worlds leading vocalists of electronic dance music - Flowdan, step up to the plate alongside label front runner of the past 12 months Dominus. The young producer from Jersey returns for another Single after his ‘Just Like This’ release alongside Riko Dan at the back end of 2022. This time with his dark and intricate sound design infusing Dubstep-esque neuro bass and generative layers that’s weaved through snappy 2-step Garage drums perfectly to make a completely fresh hybrid sound. An instrumental and approach that took Flowdans attention immediately, yet still suited to the ex Roll Deep members output we’ve been accustomed to hearing in recent times.

The final product tees up yet another 2023 smash for what has been the most dominant year yet for the Grime MC, turned global superstar.

1FGRM009 (Grime) sees its darkest entry in the series to date. Newly unearthed gem of the Nottingham Grime scene, Avaword lands a starting birth with an ill-tempered vocal reminiscent of the early 00’s over a Drill influenced Grime instrumental from fellow Nottingham producer Frost, even sampling ‘Oi’ for a nod to the original sound on ‘7am’. Raybee and Rakjay link up for a heavyweight Dubstep roller on ‘Where The Bar Is’. Leeds’ very own Buckley see’s his first official release with the label after appearances at the club nights this past season, as does Untrodden Grove, delivering two more thumping low end Dubstep contributions with ‘B.D.B’ and ‘Abbies Nightmare’ respectively.

Ghoulish enlists singer songwriter Lollie for his first original release with the label, bringing with him lashings of bumpy sun-soaked goodness in ‘Voices’.
