We did a thing 👀

New episode out now!
This car was rescued from Trent’s Salvage and the Brabus Smart Roadster is the most desirable of the Smart range (bar Crossblade model).

If you watched the first episode you will know I discovered that this was in fact a 1 lady owner car, and she’d done all 183,000 miles.

We also established (or rather Rob at S2 Smarts did) that mechanically the engine and gearbox seem spookily good. It’s never been rebuilt either.

Last time we serviced it and replaced brakes and some suspension bushings. This time the car received a full Bilstein coil over kit, we ‘unwrap’ it (so festive) and then replace the entire elec cabrio roof mech with a good s’hand unit.

It’s safe to say it’s been saved from the grave, and is ready to drive in 2025.

With cars becoming wider, heavier, more complex and harder to extract true ‘feel’ from, this 100bhp 0.7-litre charge cooled turbo triple may well be the future for thrifty piston thrills.

Theon Design has revealed its latest entirely bespoke Porsche 911 (964) commission, and in tomorrow’s episode, Jonny Smith stops by to take a look.

Based on a 964 C4 Targa, the car has been rebuilt from the ground up over 6000+ hours to deliver the ultimate, open-top air-cooled Porsche driving experience. And of course finished in ‘70s Porsche Signal Yellow ⭐️

The Secret Garden of Overgrown Classic Cars 🌿Jonny was invited to visit a garden in Cardiff, Wales, where a chap called Rein had amassed (and parked) his collection of classic cars over the years. Sadly many have either succumbed to acts of vandalism, or been swamped by undergrowth. Jonny helped to undercover as many as possible for this special film.

OK, so we know this is immensely overdue, but it’s worth the wait! 😏

Part 3 of the Bargain Boxster project goes live at 5pm today. 🎉

The project update outlines how Jonny’s 2002 2.7 Boxster is now free of cabin leaks, and the cabrio hood works as Stuttgart intended.
He also swapped out the hateful wheels, and spent his birthday changing the coil packs after a momentary misfire.

In the last episode it got serviced and had its water damaged modules replaced. Since then it’s been used hard all summer long, and he loves the thing.
There will be a part 4 coming soon, centring around giving the poor Box a deep detail clean inside and out.

The comments section on the latest episode of The Late Brake Show validates Jonny’s hopes that sometimes shining the light on a lesser known classic car reveals it to a new audience. The Ford V8 Pilot is one of those cars.

This is a flathead V8 built in the same county its owners live in. But will it fire up after sitting all those years? Find out on our YouTube channel.

Ford V8 Pilot barn find. Basically designed and made using pre-war parts, as the UK was broke after WWII, so utilised the now-legendary side valve American Ford V8 engine first seen in 1932. This car was built in Dagenham, Essex, and this example has been sat in a garage in Essex for 30 years. It hasn't run in that time. Watch the uncovering on our YouTube now.

Today at the usual time of 5pm, the first episode of 2025 which will of course be a #barnfind. Filmed in Essex, where it was built and has sat for the last 30 years. Jonny also brings along his brother Greg for this special less-known V8. What’s your guess?

There is no pattern or prejudice to this wonderful barn stash; from classic Minis and an immaculate Opel Monza coupe, to a Lambo Diablo, flawless manual equipped Mustang fastback and 'ring riot weapon M3 V8.There are some cars which represent Ali's late husband (who helped kindle her car life) and others which have helped her continue her journey to drive interesting piston vehicles.There are many backstories to each of the cars in this stacked shed, and we hope you'll join us with appreciation for Adam and Ali's cracking car taste.
