❌🫣🍝 Yeah, Bolognese AFTER the bath was definitely a prime example of doing things in the wrong order! Why? Well he was clean, now he’s covered in sauce so the effort I put in an hour ago was futile, we need to do it all over again. 😂

This made me think of sequences in other areas, including social media marketing and ads.

So many jump into paying for posts thinking it will solve all of their problems quickly but really social media marketing is a long game, so play it well.

✅ Establish a strong organic presence.
✅ Set up Business Manager, Ads Manager and your Data Sets (Pixel) in Events Manager
✅ Get the Pixel on your website and ensure it’s working, collecting data.
✅ Consider audience building ads that build a warm audience such as
> Engagement for videos views
> Traffic to your website
> Page like or group building ads

Aren’t they worried no one will go to their restaurant or order takeaway from them??!! No, of course they don’t have that mindset at all. They’re reaching more people with their product and brand by being on the supermarket shelves and allowing people to do it themselves.

This post is inspired by a conversation I had this weekend all about helping other people to become social media managers or training people to do their own ads rather than keeping all of the knowledge and info to myself!

Out of House Advertising not 😯 ooh advertising although some of the best advertising does make you go “ooh”.
OOH advertising is targeted at you when you’re outside of your home.
Later this week i’m taking a trip to show you some OOH advertising I’ve been working on for a client. Take off is tomorrow so stay tuned and for now here’s a run down of what OOH is for any who don’t know!

Here at Hop Skip Fly my main focus has been social media marketing and Meta advertising but clients trust me to work on these more out there campaigns for them and in more than happy to do so!
Maybe it’s the novelty of it but seeing something you’ve put energy and creativity into out “in the wild” just hits different to when your ad appears on the phone feed. 🙌🏽

School Holidays || Easter Break ☀️ At the start of the week I enjoyed a few days away in Aviemore with these two gents 🥰
A lovely time although some how I came home more exhausted than when I went away! 🤷🏻‍♀️

Planning, scheduling, delegating and ditching my way through these times when Blake isn’t at school remembering that being there for him and his little life is the whole reason I started this business!
It’s not been completely Netflix and Nintendo Switch free, don’t get me wrong 😉 but I have definitely just sat up until midnight working to ensure I can be present all weekend including an exciting trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park on Monday 🤭🦓🦒

Let’s hope this Scottish weather changes its mind asap! 🌧️

Whether you love romance or believe days like Valentines Day are marketing gimmicks, they aren’t going anywhere so you might as well embrace the consumerism and tell your customers why your restaurant, cafe, hotel or is the perfect place to be this February.

If you’re fanatic about your fries and want to let everyone know; National Chip Week on the 29th - 26th could be the green light you need to show off your chips 🍟

Themed days, awareness days and holidays can be used to your advantage but it’s all about the pre promotion to drive traffic on the day of the event.

A Happy Valentine’s Day graphic at 6pm on the 14th is unlikely to bring you any additional income, instead theme your content around this day on the lead up, let your customers know why they should spend it with you and increase your chances of selling out of your special edition heart shaped red velvet cake…🤷🏻‍♀️

This review has blown me away this morning but it’s the third paragraph that I feel most proud of.

I want the outsourcing process to be stress free and I want to gain your trust.

It’s difficult to trust someone new and external but when you become my client, your business becomes a part of my business, I develop an attachment, a sense of pride, I CARE about the results.

Over the past few years I’ve worked on ad hoc campaigns for Ally & Simon for both their local CrossFit gym and their CrossFit event, we’ve covered Facebook and Instagram ads training, live social media at the event, organic social media management, traffic campaigns, lead generation campaigns.

Looking forward to another busy and successful 2024 with these guys 🥂 🏋️‍♀️

Have you noticed this as a user, you’re enjoying a video and it seems to end prematurely or maybe you’ve been left frustrated after trying to upload a brilliant piece of content but having it cut off after 1.30mins

Reels are 90 second videos, everything else should be uploaded as a post. ✔️

There a risk of lazy marketing when it comes to awareness days and themed days so i’m going to tell you how to get it right with social media for hospitality.

Many of these “days” and month long themes were designed to benefit the hospitality industry and, let’s be honest, at this time of year it’s much needed!

Here are some ideas to help you use the themed days to your advantage this month!

🍸🚫 Dry January is an opportunity to showcase your alcohol free options, it’s their time to shine!
• Remember some people a and there’s always the designated driver, let the dry crowd know what’s on offer whilst it’s trendy!
• Are any members of the team taking part in Dry January? Give your audience an “in it together” feeling, have your team member vlog about their experience, this will help add personality to the account and bring commaraderie to the business.

🥑 might be the month you discover an entirely new customer base! The Vegan community are fiercely loyal and engaged, there are dedicated hashtags nationally and locally that you should use to help Vegan friends find you.

Is this the ultimate social media managers secret? Until you're big enough to have a constant stream of engagement INCOMING you're going to need to work out outgoing engagement.
For small local businesses like restaurants, cafes, hotels and holiday rentals thats going to look a big like:
• Making use of location tags on Instagram
• Making use of Facebook groups.
• Using the search bar on Linkedin.

Engagement is a manual and time consuming task that helps you to build relationships, grow your following and get more of the right people through the door.

As a business owner you notice patterns, dates, recurrences, and you have to accept that some things never change.

Today i’m going to show you how to use this fact to your advantage when planning your content for the year! 🌟

Annually we have the four financial quarters, the four seasons, we have the same bank holidays, people repeat patterns, set goals, make resolutions and temporary changes, they celebrate occasions. In general people are comforted by the familiarity and enjoy tradition. ☀️❄️🍃🌷

✅ Here are the 3 practical steps you can take to map out your content and your overall business goals for 2024.

• Break the year into quarters or seasons.

• For each month, write down the key holidays, awareness days, causes, business milestones or goals for that seasons. (e.g Veganuary, Dry January, Valentines Day, Easter, Spring, School Holidays)

• Create content using these themes, linking back to your overall business goals. (e.g driving footfall, gaining bookings, raising awareness, receiving orders)

This week i’m focusing on some quick wins that can help you create content if you’ve suddenly woken up in 2024 without a social media marketing plan! 🏃🏻‍♀️

* Go to Meta Business Suite Insights
* Select your dates for the past 12-24 months.
* Find your most popular posts by reach or engagement.
* Reuse or repurpose this content.

You can reuse and repurpose by delivering a similar message in a different way, was it a post? Make it a reel, was it a story? Try making a carousel.

Is there something you can learn from the patterns you're seeing in your best performing content? Personal content and photos performing better than graphics? A certain hook working consistently?
Learn from these insights and use them to inform 2024.

Helping two other freelance marketers to understand Meta Ads a bit more.

Megan runs MBL Marketing Solutions and has a big focus on the construction industry.

Heather has been working here at Hop Skip Fly for over a year now but also runs her own Thrive Social Studio where her focus is on holistic, wellbeing, health and fitness.

Facebook Ads are a complex beast, every client is different, every campaign is different, there are so many variables, so sitting, having the ladies watch and ask questions as I build out a real campaign helped to see the practical behind the theory they’ve been learning.

Ive been running ads for at least two years now, it’s one of my favourite services to offer and I loved showing Megan and Heather the process and discussing the thought behind it.✨ It’s also great for me to get some practice of getting the thoughts outside of my head and teaching others. I’ve delivered a few masterclasses and training sessions but this is a service i’d love to deliver more in 2024!

Steal my toolbox! Here's a handy list of tools I use in my business as a social media marketer.

Save this post for later, you never know when you might need it.

Let's jump into the list. 🏃🏻‍♂️

📝 Asana - The ultimate project management tool and a major cog in the Hop Skip Fly wheel. If you like lists you'll love Asana. As a team we have a colour coded project for each client, we can create tasks and allocate them to an individual, give them a deadline and write tons of helpful information on each task, if necessary you can include a subtask and set the urgency.
I also have personal boards in Asana full of wild ideas and fun plans. ✨

⚡️Trello - Drag and drop dreams are made here. At a glance you can look at a Trello board and see what needs done. You can make your Trello board as simple or as complex as you like. Task management and project planning are made easy in Trello and handy additions like the Calendar Power Up can make content planning a breeze and help you to get it out of your head and easy to visualise.

💫 Metricool - My main social media content scheduler. I've used this tool for a long time now and the insights from the reporting are excellent. Again with the drag and drop simplicity, it's easy to move content to a different date or time and you can view in day, week or month view.
One of my favourite new features in Metricool are the "Saved Texts" so you can save hashtag sets, commonly used phrases, call to actions or contact details that you want to add to the end of your posts. This is a great time saver when managing multiple accounts.

👌🏽 Flick - Another scheduler and in fact, the scheduler I'm using to write this post. Flick is known for it's hashtag research and analytic tools. When I had three new Instagram specific clients join me at the end of summer I wanted to up my hashtag chances and I had run out of available spaces in Metricool so it just made sense to test Flick. It's very simple to use and whilst I can't use the hashtag analytics for all clients I can use the hashtag set builder. It's very handy and simple.

🎥 InShot - Video editing on my phone, I can edit and share reels and stories live at my events on Inshot, video can be saved in 4k so quality isn't compromised. Some of the in app features make this my first choice for video editing.

🤳🏾 InStories help me to create beautiful stories and reels showcasing images and short video clips in a creative way. Some of my favourite templates have been before and afters and creative grids. This app simply allows you to create more interesting stories than you could in the Instagram app.

✂️ CapCut - Some people choose CapCut for video editing and use it in the same way as I use InShot. I like CapCut for the occasionally trending TikTok template or to create meme style content.

Unless every single piece of content you create is ground breaking and show stopping there's a chance it's going to get missed by most of your audience and by most of the wider online audience.

Did you know...it's ok to repeat yourself on social media? It's ok to repeat yourself on social media.

Once is NEVER enough so repurpose your content, share the same image in a different way or with a different caption, share the same caption with a different image, write a blog then make it a video then make it a photo, then speak about it in a podcast and share that same thought at your next networking event.

Don't be scared to repeat yourself on social media, don't be scared to share the same beautiful photo more than once because you're competing with a billion tiny whispers.

New term, new team. 👋🏼
Introducing Heather (left) and reintroducing myself, Claire (right).

It’s approaching three years of Hop Skip Fly! I founded the company during 2020 when events across the world were cancelled and it was the best thing I could have done. 👏🏼

Since then I’ve been taking things a day, week, month at a time enjoying a steady pace of growth.

Heather proactively reached out on LinkedIn at a time when I was considering outsourcing and expanding my team. I’d done a lot of research and knew what I was looking for so her message came at just the right time. 🪄

Heather spent a number of months working remotely for me, Asana and Metricool had our back with this.

My son starting school in August was a big change in the structure of my week and I planned to hit the ground running.
Heather also graduated from Uni.
That’s when I was able to offer Heather two permanent days and hire office space at EK Collective
This is a game changer when it comes to building rapport, exchanging ideas and working together seamlessly on our various projects.

Instagram is being used like a mini search engine and events and hospitality can use it to their benefit!

Don't ditch the hashtags just yet, quite the opposite, hone your strategy and make them work harder by including them in your keyword research.

Hashtags are still being searched for and followed, appearing in users feeds so it's not time to say goodbye just yet.

In addition to sticking with the hashtags, have a look at your bio and make room for key phrases that someone might use when looking for a business, event, hotel or restaurant like yours.
