Well folks- we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it’s time we let you know, that Brumous is closing its morbid doors and hanging up our bloodied aprons as of April 28th.

It’s not a decision we’ve made lightly, it’s taken some very lengthy late night discussions to come to this, but we have to admit that it’s time.

It’s sad to be closing, Brumous has been my morbid little baby and I‘ve put everything into it that I could. I’ve spent countless hours, weeks and months researching some of my favourite morbid subjects so that every month the theme came through as best it could. I’ve gone cross eyed working into the night perfecting wax seals and hunting down some of the most fascinating books I could so you’d enjoy it all just as much as I have. I’ve found some wonderful small businesses that have been a pleasure to work with. And not only that, I’ve really cared about making sure you all felt that you were treating yourself or your loved ones when grabbing a Brumous Box from us. Nothing went into a box unless I thought it had purpose. Self care was the real root of a Brumous Box and I just hope that shone through.

But with ever increasing costs for supplies, the huge amount of time that’s needed to run a business from start to finish as a single owner who also lives with a chronic condition, I have to admit it’s time to close the doors to Brumous.

We can’t say I didn’t give it a good go, eh?

An update regarding our fundraiser!

We reached out to MCFB to ask if they would prefer a physical food donation from us, but I think due to how busy they’ve been, we weren’t able to get a response- so instead we sent the money over to them directly! £153 plus a nice chunk of gift aid too!

Happy New Years from Brumous! What a year it’s been, hey?

We’ve had one heck of a year. We’ve sold out of nearly 1/2 of our monthly themes over the last 12 months, which is incredible. We’ve been nominated for two business awards- one being Business of the year?!! Flabbergasting. And we’ve raised over £150 for food banks this year too, thanks to your amazing generosity.

What we’ve really loved though, is hearing how much comfort these boxes bring you. How they’ve helped you to relax and to take some much needed time for yourself. That’s what we’re here for. Self care is for everyone, and we’re so pleased we’ve been able to create a morbid little space for you and your loved ones; where you feel comfortable. 🖤

Afternoon everyone!
We hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas, or a peaceful Hanukkah!

I know we’ve been a little quiet; but we’ve been busy sorting out donations to the food bank- this is just a small fraction of the things we’re able to donate thanks to your wonderful generosity to the Brumous Fundraiser. We have a mammoth delivery of supplies coming too! We’re just waiting to hear back from the Food Bank team in regards to that; but we will keep you updated every step of the way 🖤

This is what just £22 of the £153 raised managed to buy-we managed to get a heck of a lot- these photos don’t do it all justice! The next delivery has over 200 items on it- that’s 200 items, as well as this shop that will make a massive difference to people struggling at the moment.

❄️🎄Brumous Christmas competition announcement 🎄❄️

We’re really sorry to announce that we’re going to be closing our Christmas competition without selecting any winners.
Unfortunately, we’ve not had enough interest to have the competition continue, which is a shame, but I’d much prefer to be completely transparent about it all.

I’m not quite sure why we haven’t had many entrants- we know that lots of small businesses are dealing with brutal algorithms ruining their engagement (us included!), so maybe that’s it- but also- I’m sorry if I made any of it confusing to understand the rules regarding the competition and donating- after weeks of research, it turned out we had to be really, really careful with how we worded it all, and perhaps I made it confusing to understand- and for that, I’m really sorry! We weren’t legally allowed to call it a “raffle”, due to lotto licensing laws and financial regulations being incredibly specific. We would also have to apply for a license which takes up to 16 weeks for your application to even be considered, let alone accepted. And with it being a fairly new idea in the last few weeks we just didn’t have the time if we were going to help folks out over Christmas- and It all gets a little complicated from then on!

I’m very grateful to all the wonderful small businesses who generously offered to donate prizes to the competition. It means an awful lot that you wanted to be involved! I hope we can do this all again another time.

Apologies to those who did enter, I know that this will be disappointing but we wanted this to be fair for everyone. Unfortunately this competition just didn’t work out this time.

The donation page is going to kept up, should anyone like to donate so we can still buy supplies for local food banks. I know everyone is feeling the pinch at the moment (and we appreciate that for some that’s putting it lightly) but if you have a spare couple of quid you’d like to donate, we’d really appreciate it. We want this Christmas to be as pleasant as it can be for everyone, and if we can take just a little pressure off for some folks, that’s all we can wish for.

🎄It’s here! The Brumous Festive Fundraiser is live!🎄

This Christmas, we’re hoping to raise as much as we possibly can, for local food bank projects who will be helping those who will be feeling the cost of living crisis over the festive period. It’s awful to think of how many families will be struggling to make ends meet, whilst there are so many financial and societal pressures over Christmas.

No one should have to struggle to feed themselves and their families in 2022, but over Christmas it feels that much harder.

We want to be able to take some of that pressure off.
Every penny that is donated to this fundraiser will be used to buy food supplies for Manchester Central Food Bank as well as local projects that help their communities with food and housing. If we can, we also want to buy hats, gloves, warm socks and other helpful items for those who will be dealing with homelessness over the next few months as temperatures start to really drop.

And as a bonus to this fundraiser- if you share this post on your socials either via IG or FB, you’ll be entered into our prize draw for a chance to win one of 12 incredible prizes generously donated by some fantastic small businesses! (More details to follow!)

Brumous didn’t win in the end- but it was a great night, and we were also surprised on the night by a second nomination- for Business of the year!!
Yep, Business of the year!

We’re celebrating one year of Brumous on October 31st, and we’ve already been in the finals for two awards? Mind blowing stuff. Being nominated was amazing in itself, and then to actually get to the finals when there were so many other fantastic businesses in competition? Incredible.

So, whilst it’s a little sad we didn’t snag the award/s in the end, we’re still taking this as a massive win- what an achievement in our first 12 months of business.

And so, to celebrate, we have some news!

Today is World Mental Health Day, and here at Brumous, we’re passionate about looking after yourself in every way possible- mind, body and soul.

We’ve put together a list of mental health support resources, covering the UK, as well as specific resources for Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland. We’ve also included a support service for those who may struggle with hearing or with being understood over the phone. Support should be accessible and we want everyone to have as much support as possible.

You are worthy and deserving of help. There is no weakness in reaching out for support.

Afternoon everyone!
I’ve realised- we haven’t told you much about our Medieval Medicine Brumous Boxes have we? There’s been so much going on, we’ve not highlighted it as much as we should have!

And that’s a real shame, as this is the perfect Brumous Box for anyone who is as much as a History geek as we are (genuinely, one of my favourite things is medieval history!)
Especially for those history heads who also enjoy dark history- the gruesome and grisly bits of centuries gone by. If you enjoyed our Victorian Medicine Brumous Box, this will be right up your street, only set hundreds of years before!

Find out more about how medical professionals treated the minor and major ailments of the Middle Ages- some of the treatments they used are mind blowing. Though some of the treatments that were used throughout Medieval times have paved the way for how we understand medicine now… some, were just downright gory.
