When our daughter was about 8 years old she made us an angel for the christmas tree (she's in her 30's now). Each year it graces the tree and raises a smile or two. Are we alone in this tradition or do you keep a treasured gem? send photos. 😀

It'll never happen to me - until it happens. I have an alloment which has (I mean had) some plastic composters. They are now two piles of ash! - I was lucky, the nearby wooden shed wasn't incinerated too. Might be wise to check any compost piles or containers that you have before there is a repeat of the fires in London.

Scarecrows are appearing about the place, I've seen two, both brilliant, there must be more. Why not share photos of your own scarecrow or any near where you are.

With all the Jubilee celebrations and Civil War battles going on in the village, it would be great to share your photos in the magazine and on our website.

December's edition of the magazine is currently at the printers and will be hand delivered in the usual way. However, because lock-down doesn't end until December 2nd there might be a delay in delivery until this date or shortly thereafter. A copy of the magazine and Extra articles will be available at: www.basinga.ork.uk

07/07/2020

We intend to print and distribute the August edition of the Basinga magazine. As many of our volunteer distributors are still isolating we will be using a mix of commercial and conventional distribution. As a result, our deadline for August copy is very tight. If you have any articles or photographs that might interest the rest of the village, tanks to give to individuals or organisations, notices, lockdown reminiscences or new found freedoms then please let us know via the Basinga website; www.basing.org.uk or in an e-mail to the editor: [email protected]
Closing date for any submissions is the evening of Friday, July 10th.

10/05/2020

As for May, the June issue of Basinga will be available through the Basinga Extra website in PDF form. Go to www.basing.org.uk to see May's magazine and more.
The deadline for the June issue is fast approaching and anyone who would like to contribute to the village magazine can do so either by email to the editor at [email protected] or directly from the website (above)
There is not a great deal going on at the moment so any articles, pictures, poems, recipes, moans, successes or failures would be welcome. Self-isolation and tackling the coronavirus will surely be the main focus but anything uplifting will be welcomed.

01/05/2020

Because of the lock down the Committee have made the decision not to publish the printed version until they are able to resume a full delivery service to all households. Many of the more than 200 distributors are self-isolating and it was felt that distribution of the printed version would compromise the health and well-being of many in our community. The online version will be available on the website each month and submissions for the features can still be made in the usual way.”

Thank you for visiting this page. As you probably know, the Basinga is the parish magazine of Old Basing and Lychpit, run by volunteers and delivered to more than 3000 households in our local area.
The present crisis has prompted us to take to social media to continue to engage with the people of the village and to provide you with a quick and easy means of accessing Basinga Extra where past and present copy in PDF form can be accessed. And much more! The page is in the process of development and links to different parts of the Basinga Extra website will appear here soon.
In the meantime, for those of you yet to receive your April copy of the printed magazine, the post below lists our two distribution organisers who have copies available for you to pick up.
We intend to publish and distribute a magazine for May and fully appreciate that not much will be going on. For that reason we would welcome any article, picture, letter, poem, recipe or any interesting anecdote which might help to alleviate the isolation many of us are now feeling. Contributions via www.basinga.org.uk or in an e-mail to [email protected] please. We look forward to reading how you are coping with this unprecedented crisis.

Delivery Posting:
Due to the current situation you may not have received the Basinga this month. With some 200 persons involved in distribution and with some likely being delivered late we do not have a clear picture of the overall situation.

The two major distributors advise they will put a box of Magazines on their doorstep from which you can pick up your copy. If you wish to collect a quantity for your neighbours, please telephone first.

Basing - 01256 352299 - Peter Watson 19 Priory Gardens RG24 7DS (Covered box)

Lychpit - 01256 819006 - Andree McLean 6 Pimpernel Way RG24 8SS (Old Green Piggyback Bin)

Thank you [email protected]

If you are not able to pick up a copy then the online version can be seen here.
