GCSE RESULTS DAY
Millions of students have been opening brown envelopes this morning, revealing the results of their GCSE examinations. Most of these students were in Year 7 when the first Covid lockdowns were announced, so their entire secondary education was spent in the midst, or the wake, of the pandemic.
There was delight at Tupton Hall where students continued the school’s excellent achievement record. Staff, parents and headteacher Andrew Knowles were there to share the day with them.
Said Mr Knowles: "We are pleased that so many of our students have the platform to now progress to the next stage of their lives. All of our students should be congratulated for their resilience, hard work and achievements, not just over the last two years, but also in earlier years whilst managing the impact of the pandemic on their education. I am thankful to the staff, parents and families who have supported them and on behalf of the school community we wish them future success.”

TRIBUTE TO TOM
A Bolsover footballer who sadly passed away aged 23 in 2018 while playing football in Dronfield with work colleagues, is featured in a huge artwork on the doorstep of the home of Chesterfield FC.
Tom Henson, a Sheffield United fan and keen gym-goer, suffered a cardiac arrest due to an undiagnosed congenital heart condition. Despite the best efforts of his friends, Dronfield Town youth team football coaches, community first responders, ambulance, air ambulance crews and the A&E team at Sheffield Northern General Hospital, Tom sadly died.
After his death Tom's friends and family decided to raise money to spend on defibrillators to be installed across Bolsover and surrounding areas to give other people the best chance of survival.
The British Heart Foundation has launched a campaign to promote awareness and Tom has been chosen by them to be one of 12 young people featured and a huge artwork of him wearing an England kit has been created at Whittington Moor.
His family have issued a massive ‘thank you’ to Liam and Nick, the incredibly talented artists who painted it.

COUNTRY’S SECOND WORST ROAD SURFACES
An independent survey reckons Derbyshire has the second worst road surfaces in the country.
Southend-on-Sea comes first in having the worst roads in England, based on the percentage of A, B, and C roads requiring maintenance, but Derbyshire is runner-up.
The study by car check experts Motorscan analysed data from the Department for Transport, which showed historical road condition statistics for every English local authority.
It found that, in Derbyshire, between 2018 and 2023, 14.7% of A roads were judged to require maintenance on average, and in the same period, 21.2% of B and C were also found to need maintenance.
The local authority for the city of Derby is in fourth place on the list.
Motorscan sourced data on road conditions from the Department for Transport between 2018 and 2023. They then used this to calculate the percentage of roads on average that required maintenance in each local authority. This was then ranked from highest percentage to lowest, to compile the top ten list.
GREEN BIN COLLECTIONS
Green bin collections will be up-and-running across North East Derbyshire from this month.
With spring just around the corner and people eager to get back in their gardens, the collections will resume w/c 4 March 2024 for the south of the district and w/c 11 March 2024 for the north.
Residents are reminded that items such as: grass cuttings, flowers, leaves, leftover fruit, salad, vegetable waste and eggshells and cooked food left-overs such as bread, pastries, pasta, meat, fish, tea bags and coffee grounds can all go in your green bin.
Food waste can also be placed in compostable bags manufactured to British Standard EN13432 if concerned about smells and flies. (No retail carrier bags)
