Fear Naut is a magazine conceived and created from start to finish by women and non-binary folk living on the waterways. We create the magazine around the submissions that we receive and, once all the pieces are collated and designed, the magazine is printed at the boat woman owned risograph studio, Duplikat, in Hackney Wick. We stand for the empowerment of women and non-binary folk, strong commun
ity, the freedom to live as you please and DIY. We have a wealth of creativity and experience with a unique and special view of the world and we want to share that with you. This is a magazine for people living on the water, for those interested in alternative ways of living - from creatives and dreamers, to activists and environmentalists and many more.

It’s been a tough few months trying to juggle a busy print studio with working on Fear Naut (hence the delay) but it’s great to almost be there! Apologies this issue has turned into an autumn release instead of summer… but we’re so excited for you to read and feast your eyes upon our wonderful submissions around the theme of ‘growth’. I think it’s safe to say we’ve all done a bit of growing over the past year, physically and metaphorically!

“INTERRUPTION”
Submissions are officially *OPEN* for issue 2 of FEAR NAUT!
The theme for this issue is “Interruption”, following this stop and start of a year we’ve had, we wanted to shine a light on this and explore what interruptions can mean in life. Please interpret this theme however you wish. Some examples could be:
Covid 19, lockdown and interruptions to life
Boats and their unpredictable and interruptive ways
Pauses and retrospection
Unforeseen interruptions to life plans
Aesthetic interruptions
Interrupting the mainstream
Anything else you think fits!
There is no particular genre of submission we’re looking for, and neither does it have to be specifically about boating or womanhood. By being boaty women (or nonbinary folk) you are eligible for submission and your creativity is cherished!
