Warning: reflective (and possible cringe) caption
I wanted to share a video I edited recently that means a lot to me.
Last year, I was feeling a bit lost. I had moved back home after a breakup and then travelling for six months. Although travelling was one of the best experiences of my life, the time away from work obviously had its repercussions—coming back to England and trying to find work during the knock-on effects of the writers’ strike was tough. Still, I know how lucky I am to have had the option to move home when things got hard.
Sensing I needed a change of pace, my mum suggested we take a long weekend away to The Lakes, a place where she used to hike with her parents. It’s a spot that holds a lot of sentimental value for our family.
This trip was a turning point for me during a period of uncertainty and self-doubt. I brought my camera along for the first time in ages, and just focused on filming things I found beautiful—to remind myself why I love this industry. Not just for clients, but for me, for fun again (though lugging around a rigged-up Blackmagic camera on those hikes wasn’t exactly easy!).
The trip was filled with stories from my mum about her own memories in The Lakes, funny anecdotes about my grandparents, and plenty of pub lunches. I feel lucky to be so close to her.
I came home with new energy and a motivation to rebuild. As part of that change, I decided to move to London, and ever since, I’ve been busy with multiple exciting projects and hitting some big goals along the way. As a freelancer, that’s just the way it goes, but it feels good to be making progress while still doing what I love, and I don’t plan on stopping here.
