Killer Kutz from Kerrang! Issue 13, April 1982, and the regular chart comes from Bob C at the Top Pop Cellar in Omagh and features 'The Biggest Song Of All Time' in the Number 2 slot!
Bob's got his finger on the pulse, showcasing the 18xPlatinum (according to Forbes, our second favourite magazine) Don't Stop Believin'!
https://youtu.be/x3idGV-7kSQ?si=tlPfY-MuJE6Gu_Y7
It's a slightly calmer chart, compared to Issue 12's rowdy Colwyn Bay heavy metal night, and features other Kerrang! favourites such as Grand Prix and Krokus, and of course Iron Maiden... For more metal mayhem from Issue 13, head over to https://wherelegendslive.co.uk/blog/issue-13/

Killer Kutz from Kerrang! Issue 12, March 1982 🤘
What looks like a relatively quiet Armed & Ready - Kerrang!'s regular showcase for up-and-coming bands - requires a second glance! Two members of Treason - already enjoying some minor success in 1982, but most concerned about raising enough money to buy a decent van - will go on to join UK glam metal faves Tygertailz! Vocalist Steve Denham will change his name to Steevi Jaimz, and will be joined on Tygertailz' 1987 debut LP by drummer Ace Finchum (no name-change required) 😎

Kerrang! continues to base its chart on anything but actual sales, and for Issue 12 they turn to the Colwyn Bay Pier Heavy Metal Night playlist! 😎
Looks like a pretty good night, and AC/DC take the Number One spot with the awesome live b-side to Let's Get It Up, included here in live video form, recorded in Maryland the previous year👍

Killer Kutz from Kerrang! Issue 12, March 1982!
Scorpions make the front cover with the release of their 8th studio album, Blackout... The LP would be certified Gold in the US by June👌
But it wasn't all plain sailing, with Don Dokken helping them out with the initial demos, while Klaus Meine underwent surgery on his vocal chords... Coincidentally, Dokken's debut LP Breaking The Chains, is also reviewed in Issue 12.
Enjoy this superb live version of Can't Live Without You (there's 3 minutes of audience participation before it really gets going 😄), a track described by Klaus in their Kerrang! interview - "I realised that we can't live without touring and our audiences" 👍

Killer Kutz from Kerrang! Issue 11, March 1982!
Rock legends Magnum have finally released their Chase The Dragon LP, 2 years after recording it, and 4 years since Geoff Barton's 5-Star review of their debut album in Sounds. CTD get's a less enthusiastic response, claiming on the one hand the band are "a one group festival of 70's rock", at the same time suggesting "the whole package is aimed mainly at American radio"... 😐 The album is - of course - superb, and with a Rodney Matthews sleeve and timeless tracks like Soldier Of The Line, it would become Magnum's highest charting album in the UK, and still sounds great today 🤘🤘🤘

Tank release their iconic debut album Filth Hounds of Hades! Featuring ex-Damned bassist Algy Ward, and produced by Motorhead's Fast Eddie, there is a LOT to be excited about here!! But it's a slightly luke-warm review from Dante Bonutto, however he cannot deny the "...brute force...and tight song structures..." and the album will go down well with both punks and metalheads alike, and become a big influence on the upcoming thrash scene... 🤘🤘🤘

Marillion make their first appearance in the 'new music' Armed & Ready section, describing their sound as "...combining the complexity of early 70's music with the aggression and honesty of punk..." Soon to be classic prog-rock revivial tracks Forgotten Sons and Garden Party are both referenced in the article, although at that time, the latter was known as The Great Cucumber Massacre of 1982 😃
It's a year later, but this classic performance from The Old Grey Whistle Test showcases that energy and excitement perfectly...

Striktly For Konnoisseurs - Issue 10 ⚡🤘⚡

Yesterday SFK brought you Rex and his cracking album 'Where do we go from here?', today we pass the baton to his brother, Michael Lee Smith, and the acclaimed - Starz. Unlike Rex’s musical legacy, the legacy of Starz is pretty formidable – recognised as a key part of the Sleaze Rock blueprint, Starz have been regularly name-checked by Motley Crue, Poison, Bon Jovi and Twisted Sister, and it’s easy to see why…

Issue 10 sees a welcome return to one of our favourite features, Strictly For Konnoisseurs!

First up is Rex and 'Where do we go from here?' The lead singer of Rex is Rex Smith… In 1985, Rex Smith plays the lead – Jesse Mach – in the action show Street Hawk! If that’s not enough to get excited about, the LP itself is excellent too – energetic hard rock from the same management stable as Aerosmith and Ted Nugent.

Check-out Kerrang!s regular showcase of new talent, featuring Chemical Alice, Dawn Trader, Turbo and Lazy at wherelegendslive.co.uk/blog/feature/armed-and-ready-10
Nottingham rockers Dawn Trader have been supporting Def Leppard, Magnum and Krokus and an excitable Steve Smith describes their demo track Angel as one of the best tracks he's heard all year... Ten issues in and and we've already spotted some hints of the forthcoming Thrash and Sleaze rock movements to come, but Kerrang!s regular showcase for new bands heralds the birth of another sub-genre - the Neo-Progressive Rock scene! 👍
Marillion will become the champions of the movement (and fans should keep an eye on our K! Issue 11 blog!), but it's their keyboard player's original band Chemical Alice that get the first mention in the hallowed pages... Check-out the whole story at wherelegendslive.co.uk/armed-and-ready

Daily Killer Kuts from Kerrang! Issue 10, February 1982! 🤘
As far as we are concerned, any excuse to play The Rods, and early issues of Kerrang! give us plenty of opportunity to do so, riding a wave of positive reviews and publicity, and about to tour the UK with Iron Maiden 👍
But the Issue 10 interview with Rock Feinstein is most enjoyable due to tales of retiring from music and building a log cabin in the woods - accompanied by a pic of a bare-chested Rock, on-site with his chainsaw... 👊

We've hit double-figures, but still no cover story for Iron Maiden... Daily Killer Kuts from Kerrang! Issue 10, February 1982! 🤘
Kerrang! readers often refer to the infamous Prince and Phil Collins covers with joyful disbelief, and while the Meat Loaf cover of Issue 10 isn't quite in that category, it is an interesting choice for 'Britain's loudest rock mag', originally created to champion the NWOBHM... and similar to Thin Lizzy from the cover of Issue 9, Meat featured nowhere in the 1981 Readers Poll... BUT! Bat Out Of Hell is close to the hearts of most metal fans, and had been in the UK charts non-stop for 150 weeks and counting. The follow-up LP - Dead Ringer, four years later - had hit the number one spot in the UK (which BOOH never did), and Meat is on his way here to tour, so who are we to argue... 🙂

It's early '82 and the UK gets it's first glimpse of Motley Crue in the pages of 'Britain's loudest rock mag', Kerrang! And they are not just mentioned once, but three times! Live Wire pops up at Number 9 in the Kerrang! chart; the Too Fast For Love LP (on import) gets a glowing review in Kuts; and Vince Neil gets a colour poster to himself!! History in the making, Kerrang! have gone early with hearty praise and generous coverage for the soon-to-be megastars... 👊

🤘Issue 10🤘- Now Online!!

It's February 1982 and Kerrang! finally makes double figures. With Issue 9 offering a fresh and promising new feel, expectations for Issue 10 are high!! Our favourite mag has suffered during it's conception due to lack of consistency and what K! HQ really needs is to get the readers onside and start firing on all cylinders to justify its fortnightly appearance on newsstands.

Where Legends Live favourites get a 3 page feature in Issue 9.

Titled ‘Shock Treatment’, the feature kicks-off with the story of Kim McAuliffe being almost fatally electrocuted by a dodgy mic in Copenhagen – “…I was stuck to the mike and nobody knew… I was lying there getting electrocuted, screaming my head off thinking I was going to die…” The article provides a fascinating insight into their world and , although depressing at times, it illustrates what a force of nature Girlschool really were.......read more here:

The second featured band from Issue 9's 'More than...Armed & Ready' is Stampede. Formed in 1981 and featuring the songwriting partnership of Laurence and Reuben Archer. The band signed to Polydor and released their debut EP, 'Days of Wine and Roses' in 1982. They would later employ the services of Magnum's Mark Stanway, before splitting in 1983 with Stanway and Laurence Archer joining Phil Lynott in Grand Slam.

Armed & Ready 9

Issue 9 of Kerrang! saw a few much needed changes to its format. We were also treated to an extension of our much loved feature 'Armed & Ready' via the obviously titled 'More than...Armed & Ready'. In its first incarnation we are given an in depth introduction to Tytan and Stampede courtesy of Karen Harvey.

Tytan were born from the ashes of WLL faves, Angelwitch and have recently acquired the services of ex-AIIZ guitarist, Gary Owen. Check out our Issue 7 Blog for a more in depth review of their work here: http://wherelegendslive.co.uk/blog/feature/armed-and-ready-7/
