TEXT: Jeremiah 35:2-10; Jeremiah 35:13-19 (KJV)
2 Go unto the house of the Rechabites, and speak unto them, and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.

3 Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habaziniah, and his brethren, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

4 And I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:

5 And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine, and cups, and I said unto them, Drink ye wine.

6 But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever:

7 Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers.

8 Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;

9 Nor to build houses for us to dwell in: neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

10 But we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

13 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the Lord.

14 The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father's commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me.

15 I have sent also unto you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return ye now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and ye shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto me.

16 Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people hath not hearkened unto me:

17 Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced ag*inst them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.

18 And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his prece

MFM Daily Devotional 19 July 2024 MESSAGE

Joseph was a jolly good fellow. He was the eleventh of twelve sons in a polygamous family. He was also the toast of his father but vehemently hated by his half-brothers.

Very early in life, God showed him the blueprint of his life through a series of highly prophetic and meaningful dreams. Everyone, including his parents, his brothers and himself knew the significance of his dreams.

While he was determined to run with his dreams, his brothers were busy devising cunning acts to kill him and subsequently abort the manifestation of his dreams. They conspired ag*inst him, sold him into slavery and told their aged father that he had been killed in the forest by wild animals. Joseph, an erstwhile spoilt child experienced a great deal of hardship, denial, conspiracy and imprisonment for a sin he never committed.

However, the providential hand of God took over their plans and made it Joseph’s stepping stone to his throne of glory. Joseph was catapulted right from the prison yard straight to the palace as the first-ever Prime Minister of Egypt, Later, his brothers came to Egypt in search of food for survival due to the prevailing famine everywhere.

Unknown to them, the Joseph they had vowed never to bow for; and who they thought they had successfully discarded a long time ago, was the same man they were bowing down to in a foreign land several years after. When Joseph eventually revealed himself to them, they were afraid of what he might do to them. However, they were in for a big surprise. Especially after their father’s demise, they thought Joseph would start to avenge their past evil deeds, but he didn’t. He had forgiven them and never entertained bitterness.

“And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: f

3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Isaiah 20-24

RCCG Open Heaven Daily 19 July 2024 MESSAGE

Today’s memory verse says that children are like a young man’s arrows. Young men can shoot arrows far ahead of them to ward off the enemy or any dangerous animal in their path.

Likewise, your children are to go ahead of you into your future to make it more pleasurable.

If you train your children well, when they are older, they will take care of you in your old age.

My mother and father did not have formal education. My family was called poor, even by the poor people in our village. The day my father bought an umbrella, we all celebrated in our house; that is how poor we were.

However, even though we were very poor, my parents managed to send me to school. They sold their properties till there was nothing else to sell.

That was the best decision they ever took because sending me to school brought the family out of poverty.

Today, the name ‘Adeboye’ is known around the world because my parents used the money from selling their properties to pay my school fees.

Spend your money wisely; invest in your children because they are the arrows you will send to your future.

They will be there for you when you are old, and when you are long gone, the results of your investment in them will still be obvious.

There is an adage in Yorubaland that says that if you decide to build a house rather than build your child, the child you refused to build will sell off the house you built.

READ RCCG Open Heaven Daily Devotional 18 July 2024 – Flee Fornication

Choose to send your children to the best schools you can afford. Choose to spend quality time with them to teach them the basic principles of life and God’s word. No investment in your children ever expires.

Ecclesiastes 7:8 says that better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof. It is better to wear rags now and train your children than to wear! the best clothes and leave your children untrained.

It doesn’t matter what you wear today; if your children are well-trained, they will buy you the best clothes and cars and even build houses for you when they get older.

Beloved, training your children well is important if you want to enjoy long-term prosperity and peace of mind.

Reflection
Are you doing your best when it comes to training your children?

Experts in Business Management have underscored the importance of planning in providing direction in achieving organisational goals. Purposeful planning minimises risks and overlapping roles and responsibilities; thus, reducing wastage. Planning encourages critical and innovative thinking and could guide decision-making when a choice has to be made between alternatives. Planning is central to success in every area of life. Benjamin Franklin hit the nail on the head when he remarked that he, who fails to plan, plans to fail.

Christ uses the metaphor of preparing for war and building a house to underscore the need for planning life, in the text. The concept of planning applies to many areas of life, as indicated in the illustrations of Christ, which where it is conspicuously missing, leads to unfinished tasks, that breed regrets and shame ultimately.

There are basic principles that should guide the preparation of our action plan. First, it is vital to identify the need or justification for the action. Second, consider the alternative course of action. This will reveal whether the project is worth the effort. Third, consider the support system and the resources available to prevent you from undertaking an ambitious project. Fourth, analyse the method of ex*****on of the project. This may entail identifying the priority areas. Fif

13 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.

2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Hai;

4 Unto the place of the altar, which he had make there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of the Lord.

5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together.

7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.

10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed S***m and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.

11 Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

When God told Abraham to leave his father’s house, he took his nephew, Lot along. At a stage, there was trouble between them but Abraham handled the matter with maturity and godly wisdom. They both went their separate ways.

Lot soon started having problems. He was among those captured in the Battle of the Kings (Genesis 14). When Abraham heard about it, he quickly sprang into action. The Bible says: “And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan. He divided himself ag*inst them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them…………… And he brought back all the goods, and also brought a

Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

The above passage says that God destroys fornicators; He destroys them Himself. If a believer does not want God to destroy him or her, he or she must avoid fornication by all means. When fornication comes knocking on the door of your heart, you must flee!

How do you flee fornication? First, stay away from anything that can lead to fornication. Don’t stay in secluded places alone with someone of the opposite s*x. Don’t have immoral conversations with that fellow who claims to be your friend because evil communication corrupts good manners (1 Corinthians 15:33).

READ RCCG Open Heaven Daily Devotional 17 July 2024 – The Purpose Of Marriage

If someone is making s*xual advances at you, run! Don’t give room for the fellow to try and convince you at all. When Potiphar’s wife was trying to get Joseph to sleep with her, he ran for his dear life (Genesis 39:7-12).

Beloved, there is no point in Christians entering into romantic relationships if the mutual intention is not marriage – a relationship like that is a time bomb, waiting to blow up its participants.

If you cannot tell your pastor that you want to go into a relationship with someone, then you must not go into that relationship. A child of God should not have casual romantic relationships, rather, he or she should have a fiancé or fiancée.

If you are mature enough to get married, and the desire to have s*xual relations is getting so much that it is difficult to cope, then get married.

God sanctions s*xual relations only within the confines of marriage. To avoid the destruction that comes with fornication, it is better that you get married.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 7:9, “But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.”

There is absolutely nothing worthwhile to g*i

TOPIC: The Essence Of Living

TEXT: Ecclesiastes 12:10-14 (KJV)
10 The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

11 The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

12 And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

KEY VERSE
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
Ecclesiastes 12:13

DCLM Daily Manna Wed 17 July 2024 MESSAGE

Many people have pondered the purpose of living since Aristotle asked the fundamental question of life’s essence. For Aristotle, the essence of life is service to others and to do good work. For St Augustine of Hippo, it is happiness. For the talented French actress Emmanuelle Riva, it is love. To freedom fighters, in the like of Jose Martin, it is liberty. For many people, what makes life worth living is possessing material things and achieving career goals. Understanding the essence of living is essential because it gives meaning and purpose to existence.

In our text, the preacher examines words which are acceptable by men, good books, and written works of philosophers and wise men and concludes that the fear of God and keeping His commandments was the whole duty of man.

READ DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday 16 July 2024 – Fainting Yet Pursuing

It is doubtful that God would have left a vital subject like the essence of life to subjective and personal interpretations. Besides, it is myopic for man to look for the meaning of his life from within. If you strip a man of the material things that give him pleasure, he is disconnected from his drive. This is why the essence of living cannot be sought from possessing material things. The answer can only be fully provided by the Creator. Acts 17:28 states that it is in Christ we live, move and exist. There is a difference between existence and living. Those outside Christ can, therefore, not discern the true purpose or essence of living.

The purpose of our living is to fear God, obey His commandments, worship Him and serve Him with all our heart. True enough, ‘as to the making of books, there is no end’, but the fear of God and reverence for Him is the beginning of wisdom. We must live only to please God and fulfil His purpose daily.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Life lived outside God is vain.

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 12:14-18
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

18 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,

MEMORY VERSE
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.

Bitterness means to exhibit intense hatred, hostility or resentment. It is caused by expressing severe pain, grief or regret. Bitterness is a negative emotion and, as such, contrary to our well-being. In most cases, the object of your bitterness may be oblivious to your anger ag*inst him or her, thereby going about their own business without any problem while you are still hurting.

Ephesians 4:26-27 says, “Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” Naturally, one could get angry at certain issues; but allowing the anger to linger on leads to bitterness. When bitterness comes in, any other vice could set in such as hatred, malice, enmity, or even murder. It was bitterness that made Cain kill his younger brother, Abel, “And Cain talked with his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose ag*inst Abel his brother, and slew him” (Genesis 4:8).

God has made His grace available to comfort us when we are hurt. It is left to us to either accept or refuse that grace. Refusing it creates an enabling environment for bitterness to grow. Everyone at some point in life experiences being hurt by another. Then the need arises to choose whether to forgive or to dwell upon the hurt until bitterness sets in. In essen
