DAY 3

Another fabulous review, this time from Bookmark That

'it’s one of those “I’ll just read for 10 minutes” which turns into an hour. I read this in 3 days, and it didn’t drag at any point.'

'...an intense ending which I just couldn’t believe – a seriously enjoyable, ‘what just happened’ plot with its sinister twist. This could very much be a classic dystopian.'

https://bookmarkthat.co.uk/the-third-magpie-m-s-clements-book-review/

A dystopian romance which raises some troubling questions, The Third Magpie by M. S. Clements is a great read with a plot you’ll really get attached to.  The plot: Caring teacher and loving husband, Finn tolerates daily humiliation to be with Sophie, the woman he loves. Despite the injustice, the...

For fans of 'The Handmaid's Tale', 'VOX', 1984, and other speculative fiction, 'The Third Magpie' takes the reader into a terrifyingly plausible world

Delighted to receive this lovely review from Joanna Barnard, bestselling author of ‘Precocious’ and ‘Hush Little Baby’.

"'The Third Magpie' is a compelling read that provides a near-future vision of an all-too believable dystopia, in which social privilege and national belonging is all and the so-called 'other' is vilified. Married couple Sophie and Finn are deeply in love but come from opposite sides of this divide and face almost unbearable challenges.
MS Clements has written a sensitive portrayal of a marriage, and a set of nuanced family relationships, against the big backdrop of a totalitarian state (and an absolutely chilling central villain). It's a page turner with heart and brains and although there is beautiful language and at times real romance, the author does not pull her punches when it comes to the shattering climax.
This story stayed with me long after I read it."
